    I load 225 grain accubonds at 2750 out of my custom built Whelen. It follows the same trajectory as a 3006 shooting a 180 out to 400 yards ! The 35 Whelen is an amazingly efficient cartridge . Maybe one of the most efficient

    I'm on my second 35 Whelen. The first one was a CVA and was flawed from the factory so it went back. I do love the cartridge so now I own a Lipsey's Ruger #1 in .35 Whelen. It was expensive but absolutely a wonderful rifle. It's kind of heavy but it needs to be to keep the recoil down. I shot a 225 grain Sierra Gameking bullet at a measured muzzle velocity of 2816 fps. I don't need or own a magnum caliber rifle any longer. The 35 is the most efficient cartridge I've ever loaded for.

      nice to hear about your whelen! you have got a thumper load there!
      i load fairly low in the minimum regions most often, for what i do there isnt a need for ALL of that thump , sure it can help but not often nneeded- im also a lighter fella an even though its heavy ruger...its mild mannered.
      great rounds, thanks for your info

    I've used the 35 whelen since 1989.
    I Now own 3...
    2x remington 7600's, one scoped with bushnell elite 4500 1x4x25, one w williams firesight and peep sight.
    My 3rd is Ruger M77 with bushnell elite 4500 2.5-10 scope.
    Absolute hammers on everything... whitetails, elk, moose.
    They greatly tend to fall straight down...3 to 5 feet depending on species, dead before gravity makes them hit the ground.
    I've used virtually all factory ammo available in my general area.
    225 gr nosler accubond, imho, is the best of the best. Elk and moose just crumple. Straight down, lights out right now dead.
    200 gr corelokt is tough to beat for deer, along with the 200 gr fusion or interlock. Instant results.
    The only round I didn't like was the 225 gr TBBC federal rou d. Too stiff... 2 elk and a moose ran ...50 yds or so... clean passthroughs with virtually zero expansion. Never again.
    Accubonds.. and 250 gr corelokts... same double long or quartering slightly away shots... instant death. No tracking required.
    I also bought a box of federal 200 gr tssx, and norma 250 oryx. Barnes 130 gr tssx is my preferred 270 bullet, so I can't wait to try the 200 grainer in the whelen.
    Norma oryx highly regarded and can only assume it will be outstanding as well.
    Glad to see there's another 270 and 35 whelen guy out there.
    The best one-two do-it-all combo in hunting, imho!

Dad love the 338 win mag till know move like savage 308 in a marlin 4570. My self love 3006 remington pump 760 in the 35remington marlin got from my wifes uncle collection when he passes. Happy birthday young man! Bullet diameter and weight are under rated by most hunters now. Partitions are the ultimate hunting bullets imo. Stays together close and opens up at range and penetrates. I’m keeping my eye out for a used left handed Ruger to rebarrel to 9.3x62, but a 35 Whelen would be awesome as well.

    • @HillDogTV
      @HillDogTV  11 месяцев назад +2

      Youre right! a Lefty 9.3 Ruger would be awesome ! the Whelen is a 9.1x63 :) same same really!! yeah everyone ive spoke to particularly from Canada have nothing but praise for the Partitions!! even for use of small cals on big game! like the .243 etc

      I have owned a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser for 18 years then used on the Alaskan guided brown bear and Yukon moose hunts I used to conduct.
      When the 9.3x62 is using stiff reloads it can be the same as commercial loads of the 375 H&H magnum.
      I suggest do not use any kind of lead core bullets in the 9.3 because it has way too much energy that blows up lead core bullets.
      I use exclusively Barns TSX 286 grain bullets with 70 grains of H-414 powder.
      Only once I goofed up then shot a Hugh Yukon moose with a 250 grain Nosler AccuBond the bullet blew up to peace's!
      The Moose took a second shot of a Barns TSX 286 grain bullet that killed it !

    • @WillyK51
      @WillyK51 8 месяцев назад +1

      Well the 9.3x62 and the 35 Whelen are almost Identical. Cases for the 30-06/35 Whelen easy to find, If your 9.3 chamber a bit long at the shoulder you can fire a 35 whelen. The 30-06 case a bit narrower at the head and might expand a bit to much. Its more about what ammo you find in your country. For the USA would choose the 35 Whelen. A well priced used 9.3 will grab inmediatelly

    Do I don't know exactly your location but I can fill you in on my experience and dare I say love of the. 35 Whelen.
    As a basis I own a Model 700 classic, a custom built single shot with a 22" barrel( because the manufacturer in question was never going to make one) another single shot with a26" barrel( after the company made one after saying they never would), and finally a Ruger Model 77 rechambered to 35 Whelen Ackley improved. The Ruger is the the only one I use 250gr bullets in.
    I for me I have live most of my adult life in the Rockies of Wyoming( grizzly country). My favorite pet load is a 225gr Barnes X bullet at an average velocity of 2805fps.
    Though I never need to address a charging bear with it. The cartridge for me has taken game as small as pronghorn, and as large as Elk, and moose. In 40 years I've only recovered one Barnes X, and it was in a moose after traveling shoulder to shattering the off side hip bone

    I've had my Whelen 7600 pump since 1993. They certainly are a fantastic round. I've never found it to be the best grouping rifle I've ever had. I have used the 225 Woodleigh pp and they work great on sambar. The 35 has taken the back seat for the last two years as I now use a Tikka 7 mm mag. It's worked flawlessly on the seven deer it's taken with 175 grain Woodleighs. One hind I shot front centre of chest, the projectile was found right besides it's bum hole. But still can't bring myself to part with the 35, and why would you.

    • @HillDogTV
      @HillDogTV  11 месяцев назад +1

      Youre spot on with the 225gr PPSN claim. this is what i used intitially an found it to be a good penetrator but expander an often caught them on the far side of hide!
      no sane reason to part with a Whelen, ive had this one for sale few times now but i put a mint on it lol, no longer factory chamebred.... but sentimental as all heckka!

      I bought mine in 92. I agree its not the most accurate rifle, but it is accurate enough to get the job done in the field. Considering that I have never shot at a Whitetail more than 55 yards, it is MORE than accurate enough.
      I sent mine to the gunsmith several years back and had the barrel chopped and crowned from 22" to 18.5" What a difference when handling it in the thick stuff. She also wears a 1.5-4x32 scope. Again, for hunting in the thicker areas I hunt where a 100 yard shot is long.

      yeah the 44 mag is an interesting one, it sorta wasnt legal for Deer for a while but i think now days it should be legal, in Vic anyway... NSW is different i believe. not bad for up close stuff, with a Cast bullet it would be awesome-- soft points not so great but the closer the better!
      the 444marlin had weird issues with wide open nosed bullets back in the day, they would often expand an lack penetration--or so i would hear.. alot more velocity than the 44 mag of course.

      @@HillDogTV You shouldn't be believing in the Bull crap that lead bullets are somehow superior to modern copper expanding bullets, these lead bullets are total crap and anyone who wants to bring up lead bullets on these video's is always a teenager or someone who has very little experience with firearms and parrot mouths the ignorant RUclips fads!
      And saying the 444 marlin bullets don't expand really makes you look like uneducated firearms fool.
      As an Alaskan hunting guide doing brown bear and Yukon Moose hunts you explain to me if bullets don't expand then why Hunters and professional guided often shoot solid rifle bullets made of Brass or Bronze and zinc which these bullets kill game fast!
      I even own some Barns solids 7 mm 160 grain I have killed 4 moose with from a 7mm Rem mag.
      A large 44 cal bullet from the 444 Marlin has allot of energy even if the bullet fails to fully expand it is going to kill !

Why don't you put the 35 Whelen barrel on the left hand 30/06 action & the 30/06 barrel on the right hand Ruger. Yep thats a good Combo for say ya under 200 stuff! can tend to lose trajectory after that but since we are worrying about penetration here, youre choice in 200gr would be great! even a Soft point in 200gr works well.
      the .35 has a larger piston for the powder to push so does better with heavies, thats where premiums come into play in just 150 an 180gr for the .30 cals, moreso the 308 as you lose case capacity with heavier than 180! :) goodluck an enjoy

    • @jamiehurtt3530

      @HillDogTV for distance shots in 06 i love the high bc of the heavyweights ..always carry a few 200-210 grain accubonds in shirt pocket as a just in case scenario . when deer goat and moose hunting they are a really good bonded bullet and have a 0.588 bc
      And a muzzle velocity of 2700 fps They retain lots of energy downrange .wouldn't hesitate to take a 500 yd shot tlwith one of those
      We shoot the heavies in 06 here in ak while deer elk amd moose hunting cause of the big coastal brown bears lurking about .
      The heavy accubomds have a high bc with plenty of smack. the 210 grain accubond long range bullet has 1748 ft lbs of energy at 600 yds with a mv of 2600 + fps ...moderm
      Only a 1:10 twist rate requiresd. long range bullets and powders have breathed new life into the old warhorse.

    • @jamiehurtt3530
      @jamiehurtt3530 5 месяцев назад

      @HillDogTV
      That's all true however the 35 whelen doesn't have very high bc bullets for those longer shots the highest it has is a 250 grsin partition at
      .446 bc
      The 210 grain accubonds long ramge coeficient is much higher at .661 therefore retains its speed and trajectory over extended distance much better .the whelen is a great cartige with enormous stopping power and energy I love it .
      But holds no real significant advantage over rhe 30-06 using a well constructed high bc bullet . Primarily when a longer shots are presented. Say from 350 yds and beyond

    With a 180 Barnes you can get 2900-3000 fps. What’s not to like about that

    Shooting steel 30 calibre will punch through like a paper hole puncher.
    35 wheelan if you slam your steel into clay then shoot it itll push it over instead of going through it. Thats my experience

      yeah a bit more speed helps the smaller diameter cut thru the steel---- assuming same projectile brands an model ? the whelen has alot more to push thru at a slower pacew :)
