I agree--but that's partly because Canada gets Joni, Britain gets Sting and John Lennon and George Harrison, and because I was never THAT much of a Dylan fan. But there are others who should still be in the running. That was a heck of a generation for singer-songwriters.

This was my father's favorite song. Age 87 he was walking home, 3 miles, from his shift volunteering at the local hospital, suffered a massive stroke, took a header. I'm living on the opposite coast, sister the nurse calls and I'm on a flight ASAP. He was still hanging on but ... Docs were telling us to pull the plug, family waited for me.
Took out my phone, spoke in his ear, told him I was there, all his children were there, played Bridge over troubled waters to him and told him it was okay, he could join Mom. He passed shortly after. .

    Yes! It's a great song! I'm a 70 year old woman
, and yes this song brought me plenty of tears over the years, and yet much comfort. And YES, Simon & Garfunkel have many more great songs! You just keep on listening to them, and you will love them too, I think. Your take on music is pretty darn great itself, and Mister... you don't have a bad voice yourself, from what I have heard so far. Keep on keeping on! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Art Garfunkel, the tall one, is the singer here with the angelic voice; Paul Simon, the shorter, dark-haired guy wrote this masterpiece, and I believe they both contributed to the arrangement. Yes, probably one of the greatest popular songs of all time. Do check out more of their work, it's all beautiful, inspiring, comforting, and the real deal.

They have had so many hits such as "Sound Of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Kathy's Song", "The 59th Street Bridge Song", "Homeward Bound", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.

I’m so glad you listened to this! My dad used to tell me it’s the greatest love song of all time and I was confused about that when I was younger because when I think love song I think romance. But this song can be about any kind of love. It’s basically saying whatever comes, I got you! If your waters are troubled, I will pay myself down so you can get across them! It’s beautiful. A masterpiece.
The tall, curly-headed one (Garfunkel) is doing most of the singing. The harmonies are both of them. But you must watch also watch a live performance of this song.

And Art Garfunkel is the one with the golden tenor voice along with Paul Simon's extraordinary songwriting abilities made these two a force to be reckoned with. Paul Simon (the shorter one, wrote the majority of their work and was, for a while, in a relationship with Carrie Fisher. You know, Princess Leia from Star Wars). Art Garfunkel is the guy with the higher, angelic voice (he's the taller one), when Paul sings, he's singing the lower notes you hear. When they broke up, Art didn't release much. Paul, on the other hand, went on to write Graceland and many other wonderful songs. They reunited briefly to record the concert in Central Park, which rocked! Try these songs, a few of my personal favorites: Scarborough Fair, I Am a Rock, A Hazy Shade of Winter, El Condor Pasa, Leaves That Are Green, and Kathy's Song. Gosh, there are so many gorgeous songs. Just do everything by Simon and Garfunkel! They are one of my favorite folk/rock groups prominently represented on my Life's Song list.

Art Garfunkel ( The taller one) has a beautiful voice. Together their harmonizing is supurb.
It was a sad day when they split and went their seperate ways.
Paul has gone on to have a long career.
    Some of Paul's songs:
    *Graceland
*50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. These are just a couple.
Elvis did a beautiful cover of this song ( Vegas 1970)
Paul Simon was one of the solos on We Are The World. ( next to Kenny Rogers)

Maybe the greatest quote in u tube history "I'm a thug but thugs cry too"
Hilarious! Dude, you need to check out more of these guys, they were incredible.
This Lp was released in January, 1970 and in March 1971 won two Grammy's for this song for song of the year and the album for record of the year and its still one hell of an album. Between about 1964 and this Lp these two were incredible, so many great songs.
This was there last album and they went out with a bang. I saw The Beatles live in Pittsburgh at age seven in 1964 and Beatlemania was insane. Saw Queen live in Pittsburgh in 1974 (only time they were here) and they were incredible. Seen The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bib Dylan half a dozen times to name a few.
I must say though, the greatest concert I've ever attended was at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh when they reunited for a one year tour and they were incredible.
This came about after they reunited for a free concert in Central Park in the fall of 89. They were expecting maybe 100,000 but 500,000 showed up. It was filmed for an HBO back when HBO was a big deal. I subscribed just to see the show. The reunion tour came out of this show. Paul Simon ( the short one) wrote all of their songs. He wrote this one for Art Garfunkel to sing.
Simon is one of the all time great songwriter's and went on to have one hell of a solo career.
Many many hit singles and LP's.
This concert was one big chill pot party and I wouldn't be surprised if up in the atmosphere if there was still a cloud of pot smoke lingering above where the stadium stood. One hell of a concert.
I forgot to mention that this concert was in 1990 and also, I saw Bob Dylan, not Bib Dylan.
    Peace ❤

Oh, sweetie. At least for a few generations this was the song--the song you sang at midnight from the back steps, baying the moon when you were drunk off your ass. The song you and your best friend sang holding hands on the swings of the playground. It was the song playing in the back of your head when you went to save your bestie from the back-alley abortionist. Or paid her bail. Or brought her home drunk and crying for reasons she would never tell her parents. The song in your heart when you held a friend close as he cried, and you did lay yourself down over troubled water, because he meant that much to you. It was the song you thought of as you marched into your own personal Mordor. If you had friends on the march, they were the bridge. If you were alone--you imagined friends, and prayed for a bridge. It was the fireside song with your lover on camping trips. The song you played till you were sobbing into your beer when someone you loved died, or left you, or ran off with someone else. It was the song you sang before graduation with your best friends. The song you sang together at the hangout where the adults couldn't find you, when you smuggled in a crate of beer and huddled under the pines. The song you played on the long drive from one coast to another, with the family or the best buddies or the new buddies who were going to the new land with you. It was the song that made you all just shut up and listen when it came on the radio, and you made your buddies stop talking about boys or sports or tv shows or whatever the heck the idiots were talking about, because you had to hear every word. EVERY word. Finding someone born between about 1950 to about 1990, it's tough to find anyone who could not sing it all. Every. Single. Word. By heart. With key changes and fancy runs complete. You might even be able to sing it in harmony when you got to the Silver Girl bridge. It's one of a small set of songs people knew and shared and treated as a holy hymn come pouring out of the speakers flanked by ads and silly love songs.

This song definitely makes you Feel Things. Great reaction. So, Paul Simon (who is the shorter one btw) is a phenomenal songwriter. Art Garfunkel is the lead vocal on this track and killed the performance. PS is amazing. Not only are his folk and rock songs amazing, in the 80s he went thru this African inspired phase. There was a group of African singers - I don't remember their name atm - who sang with him on several songs. Definitely not the most pop or popular song, but Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes is amazing. The entire album Graceland is fantastic. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover is 🔥 Not to mention the soundtrack to The Graduate (Mrs Robinson is classic). There is depth to this catalog and I think you will thoroughly enjoy your trip through it.

Please don't stop exploring the powerhouse catalog of gems from Simon & Garfunkel (and their solo careers thereafter as well)! Next try "Sound Of Silence", "Homeward Bound", "El Condor Pasa", etc.

It also reassure us that we have friends that care, and we all connect to get thru life. With so many affected by COVID & losses, we need to hear these songs again to get thru our communal dark time.

The tall curly haired one, Art Garfunkel, sings the solo on this. Famous Studio musician Larry Knetchtel of the "Wrecking Crew" musicians, invented the piano part and shines on this and deserves credit for making this song work on a higher level. this song actually won five Grammy's including Song of the Year and Record of the Year...too my generation this song was sort of an anthem for peace in the world and symbolic song of the ending of the 1960's.

S&G are fantastic. I’m a huge sucker for singer/songwriter groups. They have so many great songs
They don’t get enough credit when people cover their songs (Elvis) or anyone singing Sound of Silence

Most of the song is sung by Art Garfunkel who is the tall one. Paul Simon who is the smaller one comes in towards the end when it says 'sail on silver girl' and is the song writer.
