    The tall one at the back on the record cover is Art Garfunkel who sings most of this song. The smaller one with the dark hair is Paul Simon who wrote their songs and sings at the very end of this song. This song is a masterpiece and no cover could hold a candle to their original version.

    Paul Simon responded positively to Elvis Presley's performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water." In fact, he was quite impressed with Elvis's rendition of the song. After Elvis recorded the song, Paul Simon reportedly sent Elvis a letter expressing his admiration for his interpretation of the song. Simon felt that Elvis brought a unique and powerful quality to the song with his rendition.

    Practically everything Simon and Garfunkel did as a duo is worth listening to.
    The Boxer, Sound of Silence, and El Condor Pasa are really worth looking into first. Generally the albums have the cleanest sound, but the versions from their free concert in Central Park (which 500,000 fans attended) are also good. Their other smaller live performances have more of a folk vibe, with just Simon on guitar.
    If you pronounce the Funk in the middle of Garfunkel’s name like the musical genre, it is easy to pronounce. But put the vocal emphasis on the Gar at the start
    Paul Simon was one of the best songwriters of his era, and Art Garfunkel’s voice was amazing (he damaged it by smoking). Garfunkel could sing better while relaxed than most could while doing their best.

    Simon and Garfunkel were the biggest thing in the late 1960s. Paul Simon wrote this song and many other masterpieces. Art Garfunkel is the taller of the two and he has a soaring tenor voice that compliments Simon's baritone to a tee. Listen to America, Homeward Bound, and The Boxer to get a feel of what these two incredible musicians can do. By the way, you have listened to a lot of music, but there are some major performers and writers you are missing. Check out Bob Dylan's The Times They are A-changing, Hurricane, and Like a Rolling Stone to find out why Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. The Eagles were the biggest group in the late 1970s and you probably have heard Hotel California, but it's worth another listen. They also wrote their own music and have some really memorable songs like Desperado, Take It to The Limit, Take It Easy. Their 5 part harmonies were simply delightful to listen to. And if you want to peek inside a time capsule and see where rock and roll came from, check out Chuck Berry doing Johnny B Goode. He is the one who turned the electric guitar from a rhythm instrument into the prominent position it occupies today.

    Also, Aretha Franklin does a killer version of Bridge Over Troubled Water also.

    Paul Simon wrote every song they performed together, and had a stellar solo career spanning almost 20 years. Their first song, Sounds of Silence, is stunning poetry set to music. PARSELY, SAGE, ROSEMARY, and THYME is a medieval ballad woven together with an anti-war song. The discography is vast and terrific.

    Elvis cover is better. The music gets too loud in this one and you have to take note that it what you are hearing here is it takes 2 people to do the song. Elvis sang it by himself and you can clearly hear his voice, he is able to use different octaves and goes to his higher and deep register with all the emotion and the piano is better in his. I think you should listen to Elvis again, he wasn't loud with it, his is more inviting.

      Garfunkel could have done the whole song, but he insisted Simon write a third verse and sing it.
      And this was in the middle of them breaking up - Simon wrote the song as a gift to Garfunkel, and Garfunkel brought Simon into it.

    • @Barbara-lb5yt
      @Barbara-lb5yt 6 месяцев назад

      @@aaronbredon2948 What i said has nothing to do with Garfunkel could have sang it by himself bc it still would not be as great as Elvis's cover. What I said also has nothing to do with the fact that a third verse was added or that it was done during them breaking up. The fact I was making is that Elvis sang it better and with more passion as he did all his songs. Any cover he did, always was his after that. His was one voice, the greatest voice of all time.

    • @aaronbredon2948
      @aaronbredon2948 6 месяцев назад

      You said it takes two people to do the song. That is simply wrong - watch the Concert in Central park. Garfunkel sings the entire song alone (with his hands in his back pockets).
      And whether Elvis did it better is a matter of opinion. Elvis needed an entire philharmonic orchestra to do the song justice. Art Garfunkel managed with a keyboard and guitar (or even with just a guitar in some live performances). (Yes, I know Elvis could have performed with less backup, but in the one performance I found with less support, he didn’t do very well at this song - it could have just been a bad night for him, but Garfunkel never performed that poorly)
      The thing about Garfunkel is he could hold the key from barely audible up to full volume, and he takes advantage of that in this song. You might have noticed how the volume slowly increases during the verse while he was still singing. Elvis only increased volume during breaks in his singing.
      And Garfunkel could hold a single note, while Elvis adjusted tone around the note to try to bring out more emotion.
      Elvis was indeed a great singer of his type of singing, but Garfunkel was also a great singer. They were different types of singers.

    • @Barbara-lb5yt
      @Barbara-lb5yt 6 месяцев назад

      You are also definite on whose version you like best and that is your opinion. You talk like I said I couldn't stand them, I like them also, I just like Elvis's version best of all. Tho Elvis is my favorite singer, I do enjoy a whole lot of other artist and songs. That would be obvious since he passed away in 1977, after which many songs have been sung that he could not cover.
