That's most likely the case there. I wish JDF would move the hell on already from his feud with ASJ. Frankly JDF comes off as an egotistical twit most of the time in interviews, as if HE is the reason Power Rangers is still going on. This is the same guy that said the Green Ranger is the Wolverine of the PR franchise too at one point, which can be heavily debated too.
Jason was always the leader. Tommy was the outcast who fell into the lead when Jason left. The new film with Zordon leading and Rita as the outcast is essentially what Red and Green were in mmpr.
Technically, the producer added the Zordon line of making Tommy the new leader, when he was introduced as the White Ranger because by the time that episode aired, Austin, Thuy and Walter (Jason, Trini, Zack) had all left the show already. If you pay attention to the show, I think there are only 2 more episodes with the original cast after the White Light episodes and Jason is the one still calling out, "it's morphin time", which the leader traditionally always does. Sure, Tommy said it during the White Light part 2, but that was probably cause they gave him the spot light for the episode originally. Also, you'll start noticing the that Jason, Trini, and Zack are kinda absent from the last 2 episodes in terms of scenes and dialogue because by that time, they had a few scenes recorded left over and weren't available for voice over work, neither. By the time you reach their final episode after white light part 2, during the fight scenes their voices are actually being dubbed over by the same people doing their voices during the rest of the 6-7 episodes leading up to the Power Transfer episodes. Tommy takes front and center only after they start using body doubles for the 3 that left. Look carefully and you'll notice all this.
I met ASJ at a Convention, and he was super cool. I got a picture with him. He asked if I wanted to hold the Red Ranger helmet in the photo, and I was in awe--lol! He didn't rush me and spent about 10 minutes talking. Weird but I got star-struck by ASJ and he thanked me for being a great fan.
I've now met both Austin St. John and Jason David Frank. And while I don't really know either of these men personally, I did enjoy meeting St. John much more than meeting JDF. What they neglect to mention is that they were writing in the White Ranger to slowly replace him because he and two others (who I won’t mention) started seeing how much money the show was making and how little they were being paid. Eventually 3 of the originals, including Austin, left because of the fact. I heard this from 2 of those 3 in person, in case you’re wondering. Austin said he didn’t mind leaving so much though because he still had his dojo work and he never really planned on acting from the beginning anyway. Obviously none of them had any hard feelings about it in the end, but you gotta do what you gotta do to earn a living and not be taken advantage of. Austin did mention the dare to audition. He also mentioned in his audition they asked him to do some karate, he said, “I don’t know karate.” They asked, “Don’t you know martial arts?” He said yes. They said, “Ok, show us some karate.” And he repeated himself and they were like, “Ok, just show us what you do know.” He awed them with some flips and kicks and such and was basically a shoe-in. I asked him, and Walter, about the whole race and suit color thing and they agreed it was just a funny coincidence and were more curious about how Thuy would react to finding out the original Japanese yellow ranger being male with no skirt lol. He also confirmed my question of him being part Native American. He was a tiny bit cocky when we saw him speak and met him but he was a nice guy overall.
Well, ASJ seems to STILL be that cool guy, and I hope he continues to set the example. He is a TRUE leader and role model for kids and adults alike. ASJ has proven himself in MY eyes that HE ought to be the REAL face and ambassador of Power Rangers franchise, and fittingly so, considering he is the OG Red Ranger for PR. JDF on the other hand...well, you all know how I feel about him as of recent... -_-

No they NEVER BACAME FRIENDS. ASJ said so himself after JDF passed away. They were never beer drinking buddies, but were cool enough to work with one another
I laughed at JDF trying to rewrite history in his favour. Everybody knows green was never the leader. As a kid I always felt the American footage kinda downplayed Austin's role a bit especially when unmorphed. He often wasn't given much to do or say aside from the big one liners which made him appear more as a strong silent type of leader (which I liked). I always suspected that they might have used him less either because the Sentai footage already featured red so prominently and they wanted to balance things out or maybe they just thought his acting wasn't good enough to carry the show, who knows. Hearing the director imply that Tommy was superior for being "more mysterious" makes me think there might have been some favouritism going on. To paraphrase JDF from a previous interview he mentioned that he often went out of his way to steal the "cool fight scenes" (or something to that effect) so maybe it was just backstage bullshit.
ASJ takes the high road in regards to how he feels about JDF these days and I applaud him for that. JDF needs to grow the hell up already and let his feud with ASJ go already.
he was downplayed especially since in the Japanese version the red ranger was always the leader and defeated the green Ranger who was his older evil brother
Newsflash he doesn’t see that part guys are just being bitter my Jesus because he actually said that he said he was the outcast and then he eventually came to leader leader stop being fucking better because you don’t like him aware of the case may be
Tommy was never the leader of the Power Rangers until he became the White Ranger. The Green Ranger spent almost his entire story arc losing his powers...and he was supposedly the leader during that time according to the actor? Whatever...If Jason was in the picture, then Tommy took a back seat. Tommy didn't become the leader in my eyes until Rocky took over the Red Ranger...I was fine with Tommy leading then.
not to say that JDF means any harm, but he was probably the worst thing to happen to the show when he came back as the leader. The show started to be all about his character and its no surprise that the ratings started to drop and it took a whole new cast to come in a bring new life into the show. I really wish they'd make it up to the original 4 rangers and have them come back on the show some time to really give credit to the original rangers that made this show a hit.
I think its the fact that when he's around they make everything about him, and that negatively impacts the stories that could be better. Its no wonder why turbo into power rangers in space saw an increase when you they got to start telling a good story that wasn't about Tommy Oliver. Even this last 25th anniversary episode ended up being more about Tommy, than about where all the rangers were, what their lives were like and what the whole multiverse could mean for the franchise. I think its a shame that they always anchor the franchise to him, and ignore the original cast who made it a smash hit in the first place.
Austin and his brother were also the directors on this serie.. Also He has been wrote the part of '' Forever Red ''. He was so important a character. .
tommy wasnt in the pilot episode thus making him a non original character. There were only 5 to begin with and tommy wasnt one of them so JDF needs to knock that shit off.
@@mrios3092 No but he purposefully commented allowing viewers to infer that he became the leader as soon as he showed up in the show which was not the case. Tommy became leader only when Jason, Zack, and Trini left.
Jason was the leader of the original rangers up until when the power was transferred to Rocky. Tommy was an independent ranger and became leader after Jason left.
If any of you get the chance, look up Austin St John on RUclips, he makes videos now. Seriously might be one of the coolest guys ever. Witty, down-to-earth, and a natural born storyteller.
No, but he was the other "lead" when he appeared and later they switched the leadership from Red Ranger (Jason) to White Ranger (Tommy), I think that is what they mean. Also most of the episodes when Tommy appeared were usually all centered around Tommy.
+tonkslunahermy2121 Austin was always the leader and Tommy never git the leader role until Austin left and was replaced by rocky, Austin was always meant to be the leader, that's why jdf is so bitter he knows he's the back uo plan
He purposefully left that vague but he does say Tommy showed up and became the Leader. That's not necessarily false. Because when Jason, Zack, and Trini did leave - Tommy did become the leader. There's no doubt about that but JDF leaves out that historical fact on purpose to chest-pound.
JDF just needs to stop. I'm so tired of him milking Power Rangers, at least the others have tried to do other things. Who died and made JDF the spokesman for Power Rangers anyway? So over him.. Austin/Jason will always be the true leader.
PJ Reactions yea it’s kinda sad because he’s too damn old to continue making power ranger content. I have more respect for Austin for saving lives in real life as a paramedic for the military.
I realize this post is 3 years old now but in JDF's defense, he "claims" he has let that all be the past. Whether or not that's true is anybody's guess. Either way, JDF was always the second best trying to stir shit up to prove he was the best where as Jason always took the high road.
I am brand new to Power Rangers, only seen a few of the series', but I think Jason is the best Red Ranger. He's the one that feels most like a leader, there is a genuineness to how he takes responsibility and protects his team, plus he is a good friend to those around him. The only one that comes close in modern PR I'd say is Devon from Beast Morphers, he's much the same except a bit less responsible out of the suit XD. Austin St. John got better as an actor as the show went along, which is impressive, not all actors can grow when faced with the kind of workload they must have been under. It's truly a shame the studio let him, Walter, and Thuy go, they lost a really good thing.
Hahahaha! He had such a boyish face with a manly, athletic body! When this show came out I was 13.... and they all looked so much older to me.... sigh....
No, you're not, the show lost a lot of it's gravitas after the OG cast was split and eventually changed. Sad thing is knowing this is due to money, and that show's creator Haim Saban, now a Billionaire could have easily rectified. Who knows how different things could have been had they kept the OG cast together. I think MMPR would have probably gone all 3-4 seasons with the OG cast before either ending the show, or starting a new cast.
Granted ASJ is a sweetheart, JDF is just being his usual obnoxious self. That's what makes him different. He said it himself, he was nothing like his Tommy character. He's a big mouth, can't change him now. I love both guys. Each of them are different.
If you asked me, they should have put Jason and kimberly hart together as a couple in the series. I could tell where he liked her in the series. He picked on her, he was always closest with her besides trini and he and her almost never fought and when they did, you could tell there was a spark.
I always thought Jason and Kimberly would have made a good couple, but then Tommy showed up, and all of a sudden Kimberly was in love with him. If I had been Kimberly I know who I would have have chosen, and it certainly wouldn't have been Tommy.
Nah, Jason was closest with Trini, I think that would have been better and ASJ agrees. Watch his video on Thuy Trang, he says if he were in charge, Jason and Trini would have been a couple.
@@sm4carnageihope I can see why ASJ would prefer that but personally I felt he and Thuy didn’t have that kind of chemistry or any spark, they just felt like close friends. But he definitely had that romantic chemistry with Amy Jo and it probably helped that they weren’t super close in real life so you could feel there was some tension between them during their scenes. The story even supports Jason+Kimberly since Jason went to go find her after Zeo and in the Turbo movie there were clear signs they were in a relationship.
@@NightRises234 I don't see any romantic chemistry between Jason and Kim... at all. Jason wasn't dating Kim in Turbo either. She was dating she met in Paris, he was dating that girl he met in Zeo.
It could have to do with Austin being an older sibling and JDF being a younger sibling that may explain how they act. It's a generalization, but you can kind of see it in their personalities.
Here's the funny thing. Jason David Frank is actually a year older than Austin St John. Therefore, just because JDF is a bit older than ASJ does not mean he is any wiser.
It doesn't, but it's not really an age thing though and who's older. It's about if you're the older or younger sibling is my point. JDF as a younger sibling may show signs of immaturity whereas ASJ as an older sibling shows more restraint and acts more serious. Those are traits usually associated with sibling order, not age.
@@stephensmith8316 No doubt about it. I would usually expect JDF's behaviour to be typical of anybody younger than ASJ. The fact that JDF acts like the younger sibling is quite sad when he should be the bigger man.
Jason as the Red Ranger was the BEST Power Ranger in the history and White Ranger became leader cause Austin just already left the show with the White Ranger's introduction. For the coming few episodes Triny, Zack and Jason were handled by their stuntman - woman

This is the same guy that said the Green Ranger is the Wolverine of the PR franchise too at one point, which can be heavily debated too.
Cool now he's an EMT! :-)
Green Ranger was never the leader while THE ORIGINAL RED RANGER WAS THERE.
Jason was always the leader. Tommy was the outcast who fell into the lead when Jason left. The new film with Zordon leading and Rita as the outcast is essentially what Red and Green were in mmpr.
Tommy was literally the most popular ranger alongside Jason back then how was he an outcast…
@@JM-io2uv Outcast on the show.

St. John is very welcoming and always goes out of his way to chat with his fans.
I'm sure that I must've reacted like a fanboy when I met him, but bless him he was very friendly about it.
I think its pretty well knows that jdf wasnt the nicest of guys. He might have matured, but he was a first class a hole. He made billy's life a hell and always challednged austin, but austin didnt play ball which annoyed jdf.
I greatly respect JDF's talent to talk about someone else and make it about him in less than ten seconds. That's truly an exceptional skill.

Thank you ASJ for Jason! Jason was my first hero role model even though he was pretend, he taught me bravery, kindness, leardership, and friendship. He's the reason Im a police officer today. Shout outs to Jason the best learder of the power rangers.
Now that he point it out, the Red Ranger really does resemble the King.
Everyone-"He's the nicest guy but he's handsome as hell." XD
My favorite Ranger for sure, the OG leader.
Well its been 25 years since the show debuted. In 1993 Mighty Morphing Debuted with Austin St John as the Leader of the Group and the very First USA Red Ranger. That Title will remain with him for the rest of hes life and beyond. 100 years would passed since 1993 and Austin will be known 4ever as the First ever Red ranger and the Leader of the team.
Chris Evans 100 years power rangers fox kids and family tv show cool how to make me new power of it back out of kids and you power just hope did you or so we will see you soon TV show day of my life back on this would be back in time that I think you would you power kids will be back in time that works best power rangers
ASJ def had hard feelings even to this day. His lifelong feud with JDF started because o the pay disputes and being pseudo replaced because if it
When Austin left the show, it was iver for me.
+Corey Margera 😂😂😂😂. That's hilarious. Yeah JDF is just going over now. Like it was cute when he was younger but dude you're 41, time to grow up. And that's another thing I truly respected about ASJ (before JDF came) he was always so mature for someone younger than the other cast members. I liked that a lot. JDF is cool and sweet when he's not talking out of his other whole. He'll calm down.
he met him dude trust me he is. Fame got to his head its really unfortunate how that can happen.

Yea I met him too back in 2013.
but this was BEFORE all the shit that followed. Now, I think the fame(what little it is) has gotten to him. Its sad really.
ULTIMATEbudokai3 thats about the time I met him too at this martial arts place where I live in Houston. He was personally a jerk to me because I wasn't good at sparring since it was my first time. a friend of mine said he wouldn't even accept her in the class because he said she was too fat. That's pretty messed up if you ask me.
The guy's an egotistical twit through and through. I wish someone would knock him down a peg or two in the ring so he could come back to reality and stop riding the PR nostalgia wave which he's built his career on at this point.
Nobody has done more for the franchise than JDF. I'd say his comment was an honest mistake or was taken out of context. ASJ though as far as I'm concerned he is the quintessential Red ranger, he was the first and definitely helped bring this franchise to its current popularity. Fans everywhere owe a lot to these original 5 (+1). Hats off to the casting department. Austin, Amy, Walter, David, Jason, & Thuy *RIP* Thank you all for helping make part of my childhood something to remember and giving me nostalgia even now.

I'm sure the first cast had good things to say about everybody, even Bulk & Skull.
Austin st john will always be the original leader of the mighty morphin power rangers and the best red ranger ever! Imagine if he stayed, still gutted he left, also imagine him play the red mighty morphin ninja power ranger🔥
He would have been a lion for sure, instead of being an ape xD
Man, he does look like Elvis! Never noticed that.
Everyone talking about how Austin was and how he was actually a great guy and here comes JDF "Uhhh...I became the leader..."
Which lends more evidence to the fact that JDF was always the one stirring shit.
@@FatalFist whats the problem with JDF? Has a EGO problem or something?
@@kiketuber5440 yeh he did. I met him a few times at conventions. Sometimes he was nice (he did a free meet and greet) and took time for everyone. Sometimes the ego came out. Such as during a q and a session. Sad and shocking that he died.
I would like to see the unedited clip, myself. They cut it rather abruptly.
Wow ASJ was the youngest of the original rangers, I would have never has guess that
+Skrub Tre - He was 17 I think when he got the role.
He really was a teenager with attitude lol.
JDF is a total douche. ASJ knows that too that's why he doesn't acknowledge him on it.
ASJ takes the high road in regards to how he feels about JDF these days and I applaud him for that. JDF needs to grow the hell up already and let his feud with ASJ go already.
Totally agree Bro!!!
i never looked into and when i do i can never find a good answer, what is their feud exactly??
he was downplayed especially since in the Japanese version the red ranger was always the leader and defeated the green Ranger who was his older evil brother
ASJ will forever be the greatest red ranger of alltime!
ASJ definitely had the voice of a leader. Still has the best sounding Morphin Time voice.
RIP Jason David Frank.
Once a Ranger, always a Ranger.

Crazy that he decided to kill himself. Heroes arnt immune to depression.
changing history and speaking about yourself... way to go JDF
That's his modus operandi these days, as he seriously thinks he, and he alone is the reason why PR is the success it became.

Love all the cast of Power Rangers! Was sad to hear of Jason David Frank.. I respect them all
Tommy was never the leader of the Power Rangers until he became the White Ranger.
I think even Billy became the leader first for a short time before Tommy.

Back in those days when acting really came from the heart..
Seriously? How dumb a comment that is. We all love Power Rangers but none would claim it was because of the acting.
not to say that JDF means any harm, but he was probably the worst thing to happen to the show when he came back as the leader. The show started to be all about his character and its no surprise that the ratings started to drop and it took a whole new cast to come in a bring new life into the show. I really wish they'd make it up to the original 4 rangers and have them come back on the show some time to really give credit to the original rangers that made this show a hit.
Yeah they ruined the show with him it's the reason the rating and views dropped big times
Patrick Mejia i agree
Agree but you can't tell his fans that they believe he's the true leader.
Mike Lowery Not necessarily if u pay attention to the video he says him self he wasn’t the original leader
@@mrios3092 No but he purposefully commented allowing viewers to infer that he became the leader as soon as he showed up in the show which was not the case. Tommy became leader only when Jason, Zack, and Trini left.
FatalFist I love how you said the guy was wrong when he wasn’t.your bias is making you see what you want to see
Jason was the leader of the original rangers up until when the power was transferred to Rocky. Tommy was an independent ranger and became leader after Jason left.
I met Austin St. John at a Comic Con a few years ago. He’s a pretty nice guy.
If any of you get the chance, look up Austin St John on RUclips, he makes videos now. Seriously might be one of the coolest guys ever. Witty, down-to-earth, and a natural born storyteller.
JDF, The Green Ranger did NOT lead the Power Rangers. WTF?
No, but he was the other "lead" when he appeared and later they switched the leadership from Red Ranger (Jason) to White Ranger (Tommy), I think that is what they mean. Also most of the episodes when Tommy appeared were usually all centered around Tommy.
+tonkslunahermy2121 Austin was always the leader and Tommy never git the leader role until Austin left and was replaced by rocky, Austin was always meant to be the leader, that's why jdf is so bitter he knows he's the back uo plan
Tommy became the leader just before austin left
He purposefully left that vague but he does say Tommy showed up and became the Leader. That's not necessarily false. Because when Jason, Zack, and Trini did leave - Tommy did become the leader. There's no doubt about that but JDF leaves out that historical fact on purpose to chest-pound.

Austin is the only red ranger as far as I'm concerned.
@@jbzhummerh2gamer than that's sad sense sorry to put it their are some red rangers who are just as good as Jason
Ninetails so jdf having is own schools, teaching self defense to the community isn’t respectable?
"And I love Elvis. He looks like Elvis." LOL
XD hes a paramedic? imagine your injured and all of a sudden the original red power ranger shows up over you

How do I like this comment more than once?
No, you're not, the show lost a lot of it's gravitas after the OG cast was split and eventually changed.
Sad thing is knowing this is due to money, and that show's creator Haim Saban, now a Billionaire could have easily rectified.
Who knows how different things could have been had they kept the OG cast together.
I think MMPR would have probably gone all 3-4 seasons with the OG cast before either ending the show, or starting a new cast.

Yes
