I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
Nice install. Sounds very quiet. Years ago they would install a t or even a cross fitting to install 1 or 2 clean out spots for drain line but do not see it much anymore. Worked at a very cheap company that never would spend a dime to save a hundred dollars in maintenance. Drilled holes in at least 15 roof top unit drain lines to blow them out when the PVC line got blocked. Great ideal placing trap inside of unit. Trane makes nice stuff. They were owned by American Standard back in the 80's. Thanks for the great vid.
Happy to hear you say that you're going to read the manual. 90% of my factory warranty calls are in proper installation because they never read the IOM
I have an old split unit, and there is no way to get a new unit under the house because they built a garage over the crawl space and added 4 inches of concrete. This looks like a good unit to install. Great video!
Yelp Ameristar, proudly made in china. They let american standard assemble them in the USA to get around import taxes.. Those are made by Ingersoll Rand in china.
I don’t know how you always know what size flex it is and you always bring the right materials. I think that unit should’ve been installed on some pads at least 2 inches high. I don’t trust those preformed P traps and you might end up with some condensate leak on that unit. I can’t tell you how many times over the years I’ve been doing this for 36 of them, I’ve had to cut those preformed P traps out because they are not deep enough. I never use them on any of my installs are use elbows to get a good trap. In the future if you want to use these you should raise that unit a few inches with some pads
I have one of those P traps on my split system. It was added when I had a new system installed. The builder didn't put one on the original system because it drains to the bathroom sink, but there was always the sound of air in the sink drain, so I liked having a trap. BUT... the coil manual (yep, I'm the weird person that likes to read a/c manuals) says to have a much deeper trap, and now I see why because my trap gets blown out all-the-time! If I fill up the bathroom sink and then drain it, the trap gets sucked out and it gurgles loud. If the heat has been on a few days, the trap starts to dry out and the loud gurgle is back again. Funny thing -- when the installers added the trap, they had also shortened the drain line and the trap was in a 45 degree run and keeping up all kind of gurgling noise! Had them re-do the plumbing and put it back down the way it was... should have asked for a deeper trap, but there was all kinds of things they had to be called back for.
I would have removed as much flex as i could. Then install square to round boots on the unit and use hard duct to go into the under portion of the house.
The acid in the concrete will kill the sheet metal in just a few years. I don't know why he's not listening to people who have decades of more experience. I'll be honest, if he deletes anymore of my comments I might have to send those home owners a letter. They should know about this..
Great looking install, y'all guys make it look easy. Wish they were all this straight forward. I have installed Runtru split systems. I really do like them .
The downside of this video is that you don't show how it works after turning it on? What is the capacity of the unit? What is its sequence of operation? What did you find out after being your first time? A little bit more inside will help the viewers
Great Work! Alot of people nit picking nonsense... but this guy does Amazing work! This guy is an awesome, honest hard working dude. Takes his time to teach others and takes pride in his work and it shows! Keep up the awesome work bro!

@@my93vr4 Oh got it, they are literally identical. Haha! Totally misread that. Guess I shouldn't be replying to comments in the middle of the night when I'm half asleep! Doh!
Wondering why you did not extend at least with hard pipe and reconnect under the house? Hope you at least put a piece of pipe to splice the flex. Also would have been less to buy the start collars 14 each vs your hard cost labor divided by how long to make that collar. Also duct sealant is less expensive and quicker than the tape. You do great metal work.
@@shrums1la I don’t think that would be necessary. I think what he needed to do here was put that unit on some pads he might have a problem with condensate leak. That’s not much of a trap I never liked using those preform P traps a leak because they’re not deep enough. You need 3 inches minimum.
@@benkuxhouse787 With metal plenums you could go under the house and shorten the flex to remove to get it properly stretched. You can see the flex is limp which leads to high TESPs.

That is a very nice unit! Nice install. Thanks for the video. Do you ever come across a package unit that had metal vents all the way to the outside unit? Seems like every video I see on package units it is the type of vents (non metal) like the one in your video.
soooooooooooo does TN NOT require 3ft metal run off from the unit? NC requires 3ft of metal on the feed side, no metal on this install flex hooked right too the unit. Also you enclosed the system completely , no break for inspection? Not permitted? We have to have an inspection before the hood enclosure is installed. Then a final after its installed here in NC
that is a damn fine unit, Zach. fantastic job! any time i need to put tape on a dirty surface where the tape wont stick very well, i always spray it down with some spray adhesive. works every time
It will rust out in a few short years sitting metal to concrete. Minimum 1” rubber pads underneath it for more height from the elements and also protects the steel case
Hello from Ontario Canada guys, I was always interested in how you do these package units! Pretty cool, nice looking unit and great job! Hopefully the ants don't get in LOL that's a lot of ants!

Would like to see you put cork pads under the units so they don't rust the bottoms out.
A contractor license question: a pad which at least 3 inches over the ground
No kidding. He never does. I've been in this business since the 1980s
I'm thinking the same thing. He drag the unit a bit, that would scratch the thin paint and start rusting.
@@Bryan-Hensley yeah and I’m sure he could still out do you arm chair hvac super tech
By the time it rusts what time is it again? But, I would use them for sound/vibration isolation.

I like to use splicing collars and pan do its. Over time tape comes lose and can cause a leak.
It may have not been no DC-181 I can tell you that.
By far my favorite HVAC channel
I have repaired so many leaks on evap coils for those units, hoping you don't have any issues with them.

glad to see your using professional installers and not trying do all yourself. work smart not to hard
Very clean install, looks great! The only thing I would have done differently is put a clean out T before the trap
Why?
Unit won't drain if you do that
Awesome job Zac! You're an amazing hvac guy bro. Hope all is well.

Love the way you’re rain hood is done. Easy to open and get underneath, then put back together.
In south Texas we call them duct covers
Tennessee must be great because California, and Nevada makes us tape and pookie after on flex duct, residential. You guys man I love it 🙌🏿
I would have removed as much flex as i could. Then install square to round boots on the unit and use hard duct to go into the under portion of the house.
But overall you did a nice job
Question, did you put a coupling on that flex or just taped it.
I work hvac in hawaii. First time seeing a package unit in a residential application pretty cool
Looks pretty clean. Question; does the unit sit right on the ground or is it elevated up by some type of feet to keep the metal from corroding?

30 mins of how to use tape and zero minutes on how to wire in the unit smh

Where did the thermostat line, under the whip, snake through? Is it traveling through the flashing (dog house) into the house?

Is it really that much cost savings to go with a packaged unit a hand have to deal with flex duct (!) on the outside of a house ? !?
Why not use a metal splice collar? A much better connection then just budding flex together.. 🤔
My thoughts exactly. Did it the ghetto way. Also could of ran metal plenums all the way under the house.
