    great story. i am 52, black and I have been spending time in Europe for 27 years. I feel no stress when I am there. Whenever I return to Chicago, I am instantly on guard. Good job!

    • @ChristopherLRussell
      @ChristopherLRussell  Месяц назад +1

      That’s something I just could no longer do. Admittedly, it was more so my KIDS wouldn’t have to have that “on guard” type of lifestyle, but after living here, I can see that even in my childhood, I yearned for a better way. I just knew nothing different.

    I moved from the US to Europe 15 years ago. Although our experience of life in America was surely different, we lived with many worries about what could impact our well being. Not so much now … it just feels more civilised to have healthcare, to not worry about a violent tenor of life. Civilised is a word I use frequently to describe where we now live. Not perfect, but civilised.

    In relation to these very tight allies in Zurich (at the end of your very nice video): these were made a few hundred years ago for people’s garbage. At the time there were no doors leading to them just windows. So people would throw their garbage out of the window into these alleys where pigs would eat them…. Must have smelled lovely 😂

    You've come a long way, both in environment and mentality. It would've been too easy to come to Europe and keep the same thought process you had back in the US. I think it would've made you miserable though. Letting go of things in order to appreciate the experience is good for the soul. We are fortunate to live in a place that allows us to have the time to appreciate being able to live a good life. 🫡🇩🇪
