  • Video looking at the progress of the west midlands metro, Wednesbury to Brierly Hill extension. Especially in the Dudley town area. The film also shows the light railway test centre and a test vehicle. The progress is more advanced then I thought and also means the end of the present Dudley bus station.

Very nice to see the former railway line coming back to live and being reused again.

Indeed, hoping to do a future video looking at the progress between Wednesbury Great Western street and Dudley next. Thanks for watching.

I went to the hippodrome in Dudley with my pregnant wife to see Roy Orbison. Fantastic.

I lived in Brierly Hill in 1977 and worked in Dudley spending lunchtimes watching Freightliner trains being loaded in Dudley Station. Then home by Motorbike past Round Oak Steel works. Nice to see that finally they are doing something after it all closed.

The entire route was originally meant to be conpleted in 2023. Ill be very surprised if just the section from Wednesbury to Flood St is completed next year. As for the section to Brierley Hill - now split into two further bits - I suspect it'll be the early 30s before we see those. Id be happy to be proven wrong.

Their making good progress around the Dudley section, can see it open to Dudley first. Will be doing a video looking at the Wednesbury end soon. Although the progress is still quicker then the short extension in Wolverhampton.

It'll probably be done in line with the opening of the East side extension.

Great update thanks! I hadn't seen any of the Flood Street progress for quite a while but its coming on really well! Digging is progressing through King Street and into the bus station, which is exciting to see! Looking forward to seeing the new bus station too! I was able to trace the tram route on google maps from Wednesbury to Flood Street and there is significant work going on along this route. Can't wait to see your next update!

There is a lot more progress, compared to last time I went to Dudley. Originally was only going to film up to the bus station and spotted the work on the over side of the station and so went to explore. Glad I did, I am going to film from the Wednesbury end next time, to check on the work there and at Dudley port railway station as the route goes past the railway station too.

@@streetrambler134 Look forward to that! 👍🏻 I know a lot of work has been going on at the Wednesbury junction but haven't seen any of that, the metro haven't posted much about that side lately.

Will this go to the Merry Hill shopping centre? If so they should incorporate the old tram station that sits atop of the shopping centre - above Marks & Spencer’s. A station I remember disembarking from in the early 90’s.

The work in the video is phase one on the way to Brierley Hill and will stop at Flood Street Dudley. Phase 2 will be the part to Brierley Hill. Not sure if they have secured funding yet for phase 2. Sadly never got to see the mono rail as was not living in the midlands during the 90's.

Thanks so much for posting this and I hope you keep posting on further progress on this new route every few months or so. I was in Dudley in February and it is good to see the progress since then even through construction of the new bus station has yet to start. With the rather slow speed Midland Metro tram extensions are constructed (the soon to open less then a mile Wolverhampton extension took 5 years!) I doubt that the Dudley section will open next year, hopefully 2025 at latest. Good to know that more money is in place so that construction beyond Flood street can resume. But still disheartening that money still needs to be collected for the last two stops. Hey this is not a small town but West Midland after London the largest metropolitan area in Britain and Britain is one of the richer countries on this planet. Imagine how large the Urban rail network would be here if the French would be in charge building it. Look at their achievements under www.urbanrail.net/eu/euromet.htm Like Britain they destroyed nearly every urban rail route outside their capitals but look where they are now!

Thanks for watching, will defiantly be doing more videos in the near future, looking at the extensions. I am interested in learning more about the very light rail project in Coventry too.
