My FG2 was my first stick shift car where I actually learned how to drive stick. The clutch was so soft and easy to learn. I was only 16 when I got it and I’ll always remember how good it was to me. I ended up giving it to my brother and moved on to a 370Z. Had that for a little over 2 years and traded it in for an Evo X and have owned it for 2 years now. From FWD to RWD to AWD.
If there’s anything I learned over the years. It’s important to draw wisdom from other car makers.

I agree with everything except for the cheap interior. I think it’s actually nice inside especially for the time. Surprising amount of soft touch panels and very well thought out. You get a good 7 speaker audio system and I swear the cup holders are the best in any car I’ve been in.

I was NOT expecting a civic to be ur next "The good, the bad, and the ugly" video, but honestly props it was a good video. I thought the last cheap tuner civic was the ek. It's cool that you watched videos of owners and didn't go off of google only. This video made me look at some civic forums and people say the si's k20z3 engine can handle really good power. (I wouldn't get one still but cool car none the less.)

I love my 8th gen Civic Coupe.
I'm from the Netherlands, the coupe of this gen never released over here. People mostly drive hatchback and sedan, not a lot of 3-doors coupe.
My dad, being a retired car mechanic mainly for Honda all throughout his working life, found me my car on a Dutch online marketplace. We both had never seen this version before, which is weird since my dad basically lives and breathes Honda.
Mine was imported from the USA in 2015 and I'm probably the only person in the Netherlands driving a 2010 Civic coupe. This car looks so much unlike the average car you'll see people driving here (mostly German and French cars).
It's not the SI and it's automatic, which I actually love. I'm used to manual driving, which over here is the default for learning to drive (those who prove to really can't drive stick are transfered on request to learning auto and still be able to get their driver's license).
I always thought going auto would be like not really feeling in touch with the car, taking the joy out of driving, but I love how this Civic almost feels like a personality of his own, how the auto shift kicks in when accelerating etc. It's not that fast, but it really makes you feel that it wants to go, even more so than manual Civics and most other cars I've driven before. It's so much fun to drive.
I also love that I can only have American sized plates (Euro plates are thinner and wider), which makes it stand out even more.

every car has its pros and cons. However, I've found that the 8th gen civic si has far fewer cons. You mentioned the interior was crappy and maybe it is on base models but on the si its quite nice, you would be surprised by the comfort and the quality. Next thing you said was that its slow. Yes it lacks in hp but its not very heavy and when tuned with honda it can redline at 9,000 rpm and my personal top speed is 216 km/h. Its zippy and can easily compete with 350zs g35s and other cars such as old subarus if your a good enough driver. Another pro is the limited slip diff as most other cars come with an open diff, the electric power steering is also another pro the handling is great and it makes for a demon track car even if it is stock. I cant deny that the paint is an issue however my 8th gen si has no issue and has just over 100 0000 km. The synchro issue with the transmission is an easy fix (literally just changing the manual transmission fluid). Overall it is one of the best civic generations for performance and looks in my opinion and it is definitely a car that will last you a long time if taken car of and can easily make 400hp + with forced induction, you will not be able to get more than 250 hp with bolt ons. Its a grat video but i think if you owned one you would realize there are fewer cons than you said. Thanks it was a great video

The ugly: Paint peels off in sheets (will need a new paint job), rear drum brakes on the LX,DX, and LX-S models unless you do the conversion which I recommend, lots of creaking (never stops, always chasing creaks), 06-08 R18 motors, the blocks would crack. Still a great platform to learn on, I learned a lot of lessons that I'm happy I never made on my BMW 435i. Perfect daily though. So cheap to fix!

I have to disagree with you on the 8th gens not being an eye turner. I think Honda knocked it out of the park with the design, especially the sedans.
I bought my ‘06 Si brand new in November of ‘05. I was first looking at the coupes and was kind of disappointed with the look of the rear until out of the corner of my eye I saw my white Si sedan towards the back of the lot and I fell instantly in love with it. I still own it and it currently only has 37k on the odometer. Only mods are cold air intake, header, 2.5 inch exhaust and a light tune. It has been garage kept since new and has never saw any bad weather. I don’t think I would ever sell it.

The thing you didn’t emphasize so much is the handling. The light weight, perfect chassis and precise driver feedback let’s me keep up with cars with twice the HP and 10x the price when the road gets twisty.

As an 8th Gen owner, the interior is BASIC. The car is NOT a speed hog, heck it’s a commuter. The paint, depending on where you live and if it’s garaged or not I can see being an issue. The 06 model had issues with engine blocks cracking and some tranny issues. But I can speak enough good things about it. I made no changes in the outside other than HID lights. Mine is ex Japan I think, the black paint still sparkles, in good shape. Mine even fixed itself, dash lit up like a Christmas tree, power steering cut out etc, 30 min later everything worked fine again (are you listening BMW haha). One tip, use the specified oil - 05W30 I think, change ever 10-12th km. 250th, 99.9% fault-free km. My engine mountings are now beginning to fail, a know issue. I don't have an excuse to sell yet...

"great gas mileage, great trunk space" is the opposite of my FG2. No idea what the mpg on it is but I feel like gas just goes into a 4th dimension and the trunk space is ok but it's going to shrink once I get bags. I do agree it's a good car to learn manual as I learned how to drive stick on mine. Your best bet for NA performance is CAI, headers, and exhaust with Hondata. If you want to push past 250 it's boost whether that be turbos or superchargers. I daily drive it up on the east coast and so far the snow hasn't affected it yet. I also run winter tires so I don't kill myself.

The 20-25 average mpg they get is actually pretty reasonable for a sports car, but as your daily driver economy car; it’s not good. Especially when you have to use premium gas that’s almost always 2x the price. it for real chugs that shit lol
I also don’t think it’s the easiest car (si model at least, other models are easy) to learn manual on, coming from somebody who also learned how to drive manual on one. The entire car is super twitchy and precise about everything. It’s not a smooth and forgiving ride by default, you have to learn how to drive it that way. I learned that very quickly after driving a bunch of other manual cars and sports cars while comparing them to my fg2

@@sums6969 yeah, I realize it ain't a great daily in terms of gas but I'm ok with it. I fill up half the tank a week but if I got a newer car I think the mpg would be slightly better since they are more fuel efficient. Definitely can't compare to the corolla I came from with 33mpg average. Funny enough I felt it wasn't bad learning how to drive stick in the civic. I learned pretty quick and for the most part it's easy. I'd say it just bucks a good bit on the lower gears, especially 1st.

239,000 miles. A few starters (fuck AutoZone remans) a new alluminum radiator and a water pump is all the repairs it's needed... Maintenance of course Briggs tires and a control arm...

Idk the paint thing has never came up with me, ive owned two, a coupe and a sedan, one with 170k miles and the other with 230k miles. But i will say the paint is in fact cheap, it chips super easy. a couple things i would like to add is that i would not compare it to any of the earlier civics in the ability to push power just because of the fact that the engine bay is a bitch to work with. like it is tiny. platform is amazing but it is super hard to work on, even an oil change puts the oil filter behind the wheelwell. the second thing is that both of the ones i have had, had radiator issues, aka, they like to leak coolant pretty frequently. i just replaced the hoses and radiator in my coupe si and the hoses on my sedan base model. very much not fun but other then that i would say they are a great daily. But after owning a prelude i dont think i would try to push power on these.
