We still have my wife's 08 Civic and I absolutely love it. I've been putting a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it but it's time to finish the project and let another owner enjoy it. It really is an underrated car.
As a proud owner of an 8th Gen Si, I can say that it handles like a dream especially when you get some aftermarket control arms and suspension on there. At the time of writing, I have SPC Control Arms and TruHart Coilovers. That car is snappy, responsive and makes you feel like an initial D character when you take corners, that car is glued to the floor and it took 65mph and 10+ year old tires to lose control of the car when taking a corner. It also is easy to maintenance (unless you are trying to get to the oil filter) Overall, the 8th Gen Si is a phenomenal car and sounds great especially when VTEC kicks in (I currently have an Invidia Q300 Catback). I also have projector headlights. One thing that I want to stress to anyone who owns an 8th Gen Si, is that this is not a car that you should build for power, but instead handling. Focus more on control/handling mods then follow up with some small power mods like air intake, throttle body, headers and other such things. I also recommend adding after market detent springs as they make the gear shift snap into gear when it usually feels kinda mushy. It's a great track/touge car if you build it right and a genuine gem.
I used to own a 2009 Honda CIvic LX in the same color as your car. I loved it a lot and I had a lot of plans to turn it into a car that looks sexy and is more convenient and usable on the inside. Unfortunately (and it hurts to think about to this day) someone had ran a red light at 60 mph in a 40 zone and totaled my car as well as nearly killing me. My life has been worse financially and mentally ever since and I do not forgive to person who was driving recklessly, as they had no insurance, and was letting an unlicensed minor drive. The only thing I wish upon them is imprisonment. I have a 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback SE and it is a nice car, but it has no sentimental value. I will forever miss having a 2009 Honda Civic. I just want to get an 8th generation honda civic again. There's nothing I can do now because I am only 17 and I don't have the financial leverage to be able to buy or finance one.
Damn! That's very unfortunate! I am happy you are ok. You are only 17 so don't worry, you have plenty of time to buy another gem of an 8th gen Civic. Good luck bro! 💪🏽
I gotta be honest..rode in a 2004 wrx sti..a benz s-500..a grand cherookee. My first real car after my teenage beaters was a honda couoe si 2009..still got it under 200 xxxkm still working like a charm. You only have slight issues with bushings and whatnot on those..no big repair cost..nothing..ever..only had bushing for (control arms + motor mount) and the regular oil change/alignment/galiper and stuff to change along the years..but ye. The si of that gen eith the nice lil bubbly style..still got one of the few still working well haha.
I have a 2009, and I love it! Dependable, easy to maintain, nice to drive, especially in twisty country roads. You can’t ask for better than that. I’ve got about 130,000 miles on it, and plan to keep it running well and on the road for a very long time to come. Thank you for making this review!
I currently own an 8th Gen EX with the manual and I may be buying an 8th Gen Si. I've really loved it so far, and I'm glad to just be getting an upgraded trim. If you're looking for one, I'd recommend getting the manual transmission. It shifts great and the clutch is very good. But you cannot go wrong with these things.
Completely agree with what you said. Mine is a 2006 Asian spec model ( i live in Taiwan), which I personally think aesthetically looks nicer than the NA model. Basically looks identical to the Japanese 8th gen FD1. It's not a particularly fast car with just 140 hp, but handles very well. The interior also, til this day, looks very nice, not dated AT ALL. Honda truly outdid themselves with the generation of Civics.
I have a 2010 atomic blue civic and I simply love this thing. In my opinion it nails every detail that I as a person find reasonable. Reliable, affordable to maintain and upgrade if so desired, extremely fun and engaging to drive (in its own way), and it doesn't scream attention. Also, Honda. Mine came with a free vape because until I got one I just though it grows in there at some point.
Bought the 2010 civic for a winter crasher and garage the 22 si. Gotta say I love the 2010 to drive every day . The last jobsite I was on was 140 miles a day pretty comfortable. Great video👍
You're such a pleasant man, enjoy your voice and review. I've got an 8th gen, love it's all round wholesomeness, precise steering and good cornering. What makes a decent difference are quality tires, and I keep mine at 34psi. To keep the engine happy use the correct oil, changed every 10k. I've replaced the starter and alternator, not complaining at 270k km (about 170k miles).
I love my low mile 8th Gen Si Coupe. They’re really a blast to drive, quick enough to have fun, and you can actually make them sound pretty good which is rare with a 4 Cylinder.
The 8th gen 06-09 had a major engine block problem were the block would crack. This issue had no fix other then a new engine. Honda canceled the warranty back in 2017 so if it cracks your on your own.
I have a 2011 Honda civic EX-L what surprised me was that it has leather seats and heated seat once I saw it on OfferUp I knew I had to buy it as my first car. What can I tell you.. it’s a fun car to drive I have so much love for it.
I’ve owned an ‘08 5spd DX for about 5 years now and have put on probably close 74k miles . Never has left me stranded . I daily this thing and have driven it from WA state to Montana and back and as well as to Redding , CA and back . Never once had an issue in either trip. I been fortunate to have one that doesn’t have that paint fading problem . My paint has remained in tack besides minor scratches from daily use , a roof rack and a bike rack lol.
When civic came out it was a hatchback as you mentioned but not a wagon till later on. It was s trunk model. CVCC was introed as 75 1.5 liter engine, following year was 1.6 liter with some updates.
Great video, this makes me miss my old honda! I had bittersweet love for my 8th gen SI, definitely my favorite Civic generation still but these are among the least reliable Civics! The design was so much fun and it really does drive well, but pre refresh models were notorious for engine blocks cracking. Mine had that paint flake like 90 percent of them, bad motor mounts, the pricey ac compressor failure, and it consumed brakes too for some reason. Definitely better than any domestic small cars, and I'd still take one over a kia or Hyundai but the newer ones with the k20 seem to be much more reliable. They just made you pay for personality, especially if you got an 06-08!
@@BernonCars you have to drive an 8th gen SI !!!!! It's a completely different car from the base model it's a beast, try and find one that has hondata on it too it gets rid of that rev hang and wakes up the whole car it's wild.
The r18 had block cracking issues, not the k20z3. There's no recall/tsb for the 8th gen Si, only the base. Also those all sound like normal high mileage car problems, nothing specific to the model. Did you think it was gonna drive brand new for 200k miles without changing one part? I have a whole book of parts I've replaced and I still put it on top in terms of reliability.
I know, I was talking about the 8th gen in general. I never had a block issue worry because I had the SI. I had it for like 18 months, most cars I've owned had similar miles and less issues. My experience is anecdotal, it's not a bad car, but the 8th gen civics had a fair amount of common issues, some were expensive.@@Kdubz_Auto_HVAC
I have a 2008 EX-L with 160k miles. It has only left me stranded once when the starter died (I confused the symptoms for a dying battery or could have addressed sooner). This is an excellent car and I'll never get rid of it. I've had two newer Honda Odyssey vans and a 4runner but this one always stays in the stable. Watching this video was like watching some kid on a archeology dig and he found my car.😀 This car is so old the original owner used directions printed from MapQuest! 🤣🤣
I have an 07 Honda Civic that I named Simon Car-funkle. I genuinely love this car. When I end up giving it up, I know it will be bittersweet, but I will be sticking with Honda. Lately I've been eye balling the 2018 Civic Sport Touring Hatchback.
Is yours an LX cuz I've heard that the 06 - 07 - 08 civics had a problem with the engine block cracking and leaking coolant //overheating//catastrophic failure ❓🤔 I was thinking of buying a 07 Civic LX but that kind of scared me off🧐
I own a 07 DX coupe. Was looking at performance parts and what is there is limited or expensive. I truly enjoy driving mine. I keep up with all factory maintenance required by book, I use only high-quality petroleum products. This car has never let me down, still gets awesome gas mileage. I was able to run two 3 inch tubes from the fog light location into a y pipe then into the air box. I have also partially deleted the EGR operation and installed a chip. The ram air makes a big difference when you need to haul azz.
Great review man. I own a '06 8th gen civic ex with the R18 and 5 speed manual. They are truly the underrated ones. Never left me stranded. So much fun, gets great mileage. There's no need for a Si unless you plan on building them up. The 5spd once you know how to drive them, are superior in every way over the autos. Vtec is intoxicating.
'is so nice!" Lol.... Thnx for helping me love my Civic even more, didn't think it was possible but wow. Thank u!(: But like really tho! Like when I drive other people's cars I'm like wow it's huge it's harder to move around bcuz mine is just so much easier to drive and get around and move around sooooo easily like it's small and compact but like not too much it's JUST perfect exp for my 4ft 11 ass lol and listen ive wrecked once and slammed the entire passenger side into a wall in the rain at night and I expected the entire side to be crushed in.....not a single dent I'm still really confused how that was possible bcuz it was a hard slam and the passenger chair airbag came out. Just blows my mind I'm really grateful tho.
Just picked up a 2011 sedan that was so cheap I couldn’t pass on it. Had to replace a worn motor mount and recharge the AC. The plugs I changed out and the old ones didn’t show signs of oil burning. With 150,000 miles it should be a solid gas sipper for another 150,000 with regular maintenance of course. Interior is still nice and solid too for a high mileage vehicle. Good job on the video. 👍
Great video man! Im happy you covered an 8th gen Honda Civic. This is my personal favorite generation of Honda Civic. I own a 2007 Honda Civic EX and it's an amazing car. I don't like newer cars with all the complex tech companies put into their cars. I'm haopy with my older Honda Civic.
I still have my 2011 lx civic coupe. I like the look of this car and that is part of the reason I still have it and might keep it till death do us part.
got a used 06 lx in shoreline mist my junior year of high school. three years later and it’s still with me. i absolutely love the thing, especially the speedometer. the only problems i’ve have was my passenger sun visor cracking and the speedometer display is starting to go out (i leave it on max brightness because i can’t see so that may be my fault)
i dont rlly like any of them but the 8th, which is why i have a 08 lx coupe 5spd, done a few main things cai, stage 2 clutch kit new cms, slave, performance coils, ngk irridiums, header (only engine ive ever seen with 1 ex port) spec d exhaust no its not a powerhouse but man is it sure pure fun to drive and the best sounding car ive ever had. if you happen to buy one with over 100k clean the throttle body no one ever does and you will notice it
Ive had a good amount of cars in my lifetime. Mostly American, because well...my father loves GM and is basically a master mechanic when it comes to eorking on them. However, now, i have learned to work on a decent amount of things on all cars and ive been wanting to get something totally new to me and also something that i can work on and upgrade and love. Ive absolutely settled on getting an 8th gen Civic. I love the shape, the silhouette is beautiful and just perfect. Tje size is great too. So i will definitely be scooping one asap. Just keeping my eyes out for a good one to grab. I plan on also getting a different engine to rebuild, for educational purposes but also to drop in and turn it into a higher performance car. K20 with k24 heads aeems to be consensus good. I plan on getting some body kit pieces and rims and then painting it Midori Green, which was a Honda factory color on the 96 civic hatch. Its a beautiful green with almost a pearl look. Then ill powdercoat my rims white. I believe that will look absolutely beautiful. If i change my mind, the only other colors id choose would be a striking red or a unique shade of purple. I have been researching exhaust options for them, so im not yet sold on buying a system from a brand or just getting headers and muffler and doing a custom job. Definitely will be upgrading tbe suspension bits and dropping it on coils too
Besides the corolla I think this is probs the best compact in it's class. The mazda 3 holds it's own for a bit but rusts. The ford focus and Chevy cobalt don't even come close.
I am 6', I have an 06 civic coupe, I have only been in the back seat a couple of times, only while cleaning the windows because I smoke in my vehicle, and I can tell you, it is TINY
I just picked up a 2010 in nov. 2022 with only 57000 miles in beautiful condition for half what dealers are selling them for, I also have a 2006 which runs great, no cracked engine block.
i had recently picked up a 2007 civic ex, decided to put an android headunit in it. ended up destroying the clip mounts in the dash, it's only held on by a couple clips now, kinda bummed on that. otherwise this vehicle is has got to be the coolest car i have ever had. wish it was easier to find the windshield moulding replacement tho
Don't like the looks or the cramped feel inside of 8th gen sedan, but that's what I'm moving into as it's time to move on from 2nd gen accord hatchback (about the same gas mileage, bigger inside but smaller outside) and my reading has convinced me that in reliability terms 6th or 8th civics are the best choices... I couldn't find a 8th with a transmission that felt rock solid, so I went automatic, which seems much more powerful and efficient than any of the 1980s/1990s automatics... I like mid 1990s and mid 2000s corollas as well - most reliable economy cars, but not as much power or gas mileage as these civic... one thing to mention that is really nice about civics/accords that I don't see mentioned much is that they have good forward sight-lines (side and back are inferior for this gen however -- install cams) for asians and women, so this car is very easy for my wife to drive...my short mother put 40,000+ a year on her cars and always hated driving anything other than civics and accords, for which she never even needed a booster. None of the women in my life can see over a camry dash and all need 2" boosters to see over corolla (better side and back views though) dashes...
oh yeah, steering on hondas is second to none...never heard it called "direct" before, but that's a good term on it...and the 8th gen civic is the best I've driven in terms of the direct feel, right up there with the mid 1980s CRX... I test drove a camry after this car and the engine and transmission were all at least as good on the camry, but dang if every camry I've driven doesn't feel more like driving a boat or a buick...

Nice!!
its already good car stock. once u mod it u can compete with cars way put of its league.
Dude, this was such a cool review. Especially the throwback introducing the older civics.
Thank you!!
Damn man that’s heartbreaking. I believe in you! You’ll get another 8th Gen one day
Nice!! It'll do another 130 no problem! Thanks for watching!
Get it bro. I got mine in November and man she’s a blast
Love my little trooper! :)
Best little Honda anyone could ask for!
Bought my 08 new and still have it. Just passed 140k and still going strong. Great car.
That's great to hear!!
Oh nice! Yeah I like the Asian market 8th gen more too!
I honestly think that this is the best looking Civic after the new ones, but the European version is so good too as well
Thank you for your review. You have natural talent to talk and it is nice to listen to you. Great job!
Thank you for watching! I appreciate that!!
I own a 8th gen 2010 now at 75k miles which has never let me down.,all servicing done on time. I kick the vtec once a week for fun.
Nice!
Ooo that blue is sharp! They really check every box
i have this car and have seriously grown to appreciate it with age.
Such good cars!
I agree. I haven’t gotten tired of it after 2 years.
The other thing I love about this is the dashboard. Makes you sit so far from the windshield - it feels royal..
Lovely design too.
I agree!
I think it’s for a crunch zone. Also, makes drives maintain safe distance from objects.
Everyone who has ever rode passenger in my civic comments on how "far" the dash it from their seating position
Bought the 2010 civic for a winter crasher and garage the 22 si. Gotta say I love the 2010 to drive every day . The last jobsite I was on was 140 miles a day pretty comfortable.
Great video👍
Right on!
Own a 2011 LX Auto. Great car, bought it with 125,000 on the odo, it's now sitting at 202,000 and still running great
Very nice!! You've got another 200 to go! Haha
8th gen had all the modern safety features and feels completely modern. If it came in a hatchback it would be a great car.
Right!
I appreciate that! Nice, they are excellent little cars!!
Something I always remember about the 8th gen civic: The 2 dashboards.
Memorable!
I love my low mile 8th Gen Si Coupe. They’re really a blast to drive, quick enough to have fun, and you can actually make them sound pretty good which is rare with a 4 Cylinder.
Nice!! Yeah I'd love to try out an Si one day!
The 8th gen 06-09 had a major engine block problem were the block would crack. This issue had no fix other then a new engine. Honda canceled the warranty back in 2017 so if it cracks your on your own.
I believe they've fixed the cracked engines
They fix those after 2006
The last generation of the Civc greats
I love the 8th gen civic, I own a 2011, it's su h an incredible car, and I agree that it is so underrated
I have 8th gen Honda Civic Ex Coupe (blue) It's an awesome vehicle Would buy it 10 times over! You are a great reviewer Liking this video
Thank you very much!
I have a 2011 Honda civic EX-L what surprised me was that it has leather seats and heated seat once I saw it on OfferUp I knew I had to buy it as my first car. What can I tell you.. it’s a fun car to drive I have so much love for it.
Yeah leather makes them feel nice! Haha
Other than the 1.8 cracking block issue like the one I am lucky to own.
Nice!! That’s cool!! Love seeing them being used properly
Always wanted one of these. Might go for one when its time to retire my 09 TC with cars costing what they do today.
Thank you sir! I’ve yet to try out an 8th Gen Si! Yeah even this is a hoot to put around in haha. Such a trooper to Chicago too!
My experience is anecdotal, it's not a bad car, but the 8th gen civics had a fair amount of common issues, some were expensive.@@Kdubz_Auto_HVAC
god i miss my 07 civic so much
What happened??
I have a 2008 EX-L with 160k miles. It has only left me stranded once when the starter died (I confused the symptoms for a dying battery or could have addressed sooner). This is an excellent car and I'll never get rid of it. I've had two newer Honda Odyssey vans and a 4runner but this one always stays in the stable. Watching this video was like watching some kid on a archeology dig and he found my car.😀 This car is so old the original owner used directions printed from MapQuest! 🤣🤣
Hahaha 🤣
This was such a fun review to listen to. I really enjoyed listening to you present. Fun listen!
I appreciate that!!
I have an 07 Honda Civic that I named Simon Car-funkle. I genuinely love this car. When I end up giving it up, I know it will be bittersweet, but I will be sticking with Honda. Lately I've been eye balling the 2018 Civic Sport Touring Hatchback.
Haha that's sweet 😆 those new ones are fancy!!
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Is yours an LX cuz I've heard that the 06 - 07 - 08 civics had a problem with the engine block cracking and leaking coolant //overheating//catastrophic failure ❓🤔 I was thinking of buying a 07 Civic LX but that kind of scared me off🧐
@keithjones8889 no, I have an EX
Same here! I'm eyeing a 2024 Civic EX but I can't afford it at the moment. Hopefully in the near future I can. 😅🙏
I have 2006 EX coupe, love it! 235K and efficient!
Nice!!!
very excited to get my hands on an 8th gen
Yes I wish you luck!!
Interesting! There really is so much you can do with these
It’s definitely the best looking civic
I agree
@@BernonCars I’ve owned 3 of these still driving a 2010
@@BernonCars it’s my favorite car
Aftermarket parts market for this gen is pretty well supported
Another benefit
Amazing review. I love how driving the car feels like flying a spaceship or driving the batmobile lol.
Thank you! Right it's such a cool little experience lol
I just wish they werent grey/tan :/
The way you presented this car I liked it definitely got as a subscriber.
Thank you!!
Yup got a 2006 si coupe....gonna be a classic soon.
Yeah man!
The car is great and so are you man! I love your tone and style of speaking. Luck.
Thank you very much!!
Proud owner of 2008 civic .
Nice!
06 Civic Si coupe with 63k Miles all original. with Fiji Pearl Blue paint. I only drive this car to the store and back I ride a R6 as a daily.
Damn nice!! Mint!
UNDERRATED? This is one of the best civics ever
I agree!! Haha
Thanks!! Nice! Yeah they are such great cars. We've driven the shit out of this little trooper haha
There's no "VTEC" in these R18s. They have the fuel-economy iVTEC.
281k miles on my 2007 Civic and it is still going. Have there been issues, YEP! All in all though, it has been a great car!
Forgot to add, I am the original owner!
What a little tank!!
They are such good little cars!! 😁
Thank you! It’ll definitely give you another 150k!
Thank you sir!! I'm happy to hear you love your Civic!!
I still have my 2011 lx civic coupe. I like the look of this car and that is part of the reason I still have it and might keep it till death do us part.
Nice I wish you many years of good luck!
got a used 06 lx in shoreline mist my junior year of high school. three years later and it’s still with me. i absolutely love the thing, especially the speedometer. the only problems i’ve have was my passenger sun visor cracking and the speedometer display is starting to go out (i leave it on max brightness because i can’t see so that may be my fault)
They’re troopers!!
i dont rlly like any of them but the 8th, which is why i have a 08 lx coupe 5spd, done a few main things cai, stage 2 clutch kit new cms, slave, performance coils, ngk irridiums, header (only engine ive ever seen with 1 ex port) spec d exhaust no its not a powerhouse but man is it sure pure fun to drive and the best sounding car ive ever had. if you happen to buy one with over 100k clean the throttle body no one ever does and you will notice it
Ohh wow nice little setup!
I got an 09 bought it 3000 with 200k its got 225 now its solid drives great it just shakes a little at idle until u either put it in park or neutral.
Might need new engine mounts
All original parts?
Definitely will be upgrading tbe suspension bits and dropping it on coils too
I have a 2010 I use to commute to work, great reliable little car
Nice!
I have two Civics( 2004, 2010) and one Accord.
Love the Civics. 👍
Nice!!
Besides the corolla I think this is probs the best compact in it's class. The mazda 3 holds it's own for a bit but rusts. The ford focus and Chevy cobalt don't even come close.
Absolutely. Haha so true about the Mazda, I know a guy with one that’s rusting out 😂
@BernonCars Yessir. I owned a 1st gen and it rusted fast even when doing undercarriage rinses. I have an 8th gen civic lx and am happy now
I have this in silver and manual. Love it.
Very cool!
@@BernonCars thanks
The manual is great in this car. It’s a blast.
perfect review ever fro a car. keep it up. Love from Pakistan
Thank you very much!
I am 6', I have an 06 civic coupe, I have only been in the back seat a couple of times, only while cleaning the windows because I smoke in my vehicle, and I can tell you, it is TINY
Hahahaha
I just picked up a 2010 in nov. 2022 with only 57000 miles in beautiful condition for half what dealers are selling them for, I also have a 2006 which runs great, no cracked engine block.
Nice hood find!!
You really came up sir.
i had recently picked up a 2007 civic ex, decided to put an android headunit in it. ended up destroying the clip mounts in the dash, it's only held on by a couple clips now, kinda bummed on that. otherwise this vehicle is has got to be the coolest car i have ever had. wish it was easier to find the windshield moulding replacement tho
Fawkk, hopefully you can find it in the junkyard? Otherwise it should still be fine haha
I have a 06 civic coupe 210k, 2nd owner and still pushing
Hell yeah keep goin!
great job in doing this review..Awesome
Thank you!!
MY FIRST CAR 😢
Looks cool even today.
Right!
