  • @AdamD19D

    I bought a 2007 FA5 in 2011 fresh out of basic training with 70k miles for $15k. Today with around the same or even a little more mileage the price is exactly the same. It's got 205k on it now, but this past winter I pulled the engine out, bore/honed the block up to 86.5mm, put in forged JE pistons, Skunk2 Alpha forged rods, resurfaced/rebuilt the head with new valves, Manley dual valve springs, seals, plus replaced all of the engine seals and gaskets along with the timing/oil pump chains and tensioners. Got the Hasport motor mount set as the stock ones were pretty beat. Also replaced some other parts like the water pump, auto tensioner, a/c compressor and condenser. The K20z3 is a tank, it didn't necessarily need a full rebuild, but figured why not, especially wanted to beef it up to be able to handle a turbo. Taught myself how to do all of this and did everything by myself aside from the machining parts. Very rewarding experience and now I know how to fix everything with the car.
    In hindsight I should have just built this car out from the beginning instead of buying an FK8 Type R as the K20z3 is a much more potent engine than the K20C1 right out the gate, and wayyyy cheaper to build too. Plus the z3 is port injection so upgrading fueling is much easier and cheaper. Put the Hondata direct injection fuel system in the Type R and that was $3k for just a ~24% increase in fuel flow.

      How is gas mileage? I've got a Veloster N and my new job will have me driving 40 miles one way (which is nothing new to me), but I don't wanna put the miles on it. I've looked at 8th and 9th gen Si Civics to use as a daily as long as I can get over 30 mpg on the highway.

    • @scottyb226
      @scottyb226 3 года назад

      @@PacoRobbins so, if you're running typical all season treadwear tires you're looking at like 32-34 highway and 26 around town, assuming you drive calmly. I'm now running Michelin PS4S 225 widths on wider wheels and it's dropped my highway mileage by 2mpg now because they're obviously stickier. best highway MPG i ever saw was 34 at a 78mph cruise with the car fully loaded with people going up the east coast during an 11hr road trip.

    1) Detail + Ceramic coat
    2) Fluids + Brakes
    3) invidia q300 catback (Highest quality off the shelf exhaust, sounds excellent and never rasps)
    4) Stock wheels + 200TW tires (Save money, invest in what matters + stock wheels look great and are enkei)
    5) Stock airbox w/ K&N drop in filter (Hybrid CAI gives MINOR gains at the risk of getting hydro-locked. Stock airbox is excellent on the 8th gen si and s2000. For N/A setup the stock airbox is more than adequate.

    Dave, the oem hose clamps are not going to work as intended on the aftermarket radiator hoses. They don't clamp down hard enough to prevent a leak. Had overheating issues and coolant loss because the oem spring clamp was allowing a slow leak from the thinner silicone upper rad hose. ended up replacing every single one with worm gear or other style clamp with more clamping force. No leaks now.

    What made u guys decide to not go with a header while the exhaust was already off? They seem to be really effective on making power along with the hr intake. Everyone seems to go with hybrid intake + skunk2 alpha header. I appreciate u guys making this series though, i have an 8th gen that ive had for about 5 months and have done some things to. Apart from the hondata, id say the biggest things to do for me that transform the car is a progress 22mm sway bar and hasport 65/70a motor mounts. Also a good cheap cost effective improvement for me was to upgrade to the hybrid racing shift select/ detent springs, and go with the acuity shifter busings along with the base bushings as well. Super excited to see how this series turns out though!
