I’m pretty blown away by this series. I started modifying my own cars during High School in the very early 2000’s and ordering parts and often times “knock-offs” from eBay back then was a big no no, or at least came with a lot of caveats. The level of quality products you can regularly find on there now at low cost is amazing.
Right. I still remember when people were asking "Who's Megan and why is she racing?"
Thank you so much Speed Academy for the opportunity to feature our FastRoads on your build! We spent countless hours on the dyno sweating the details on the valving and spring rate setups for our products so we hope you like how they drive on and off track =)
Honestly watching these builds really makes me glad I live in Florida. Seeing the heartbreaking amount of rust on so many Speed Academy builds just reinforces why I detest cold weather living. Cars just don't deserve winter abuse.
My dad had this exact car when I turned 16 and got my license - he was generous enough to let me drive it to high school. You better believe I rev'ed that thing to redline on every on-ramp :D Watching this has me very nostalgic for that car. The colour is aging like a fine wine!
these things rev to 8300 rpm stock. literally an S2000 with 4 doors and a roof imo. The transmission has the same feel of precision as the s2000 too. 06-11 was the best years for the civic si. 2012+ they became 2.4L and not as high revving and fun
@@gallardo20000 I love my fg2
@@gallardo20000 8000 redline stock. With Hondata flash pro tune it can rev higher.
Wow, I certainly hope you realize how fortunate that was. That must've been such a blast.
I will be waiting for you at home son, I need to talk.
I have a modded CSX Type S "FD2" and as a 40 year old Honda fan boy, I appreciate the Civic build. Your Honda content is what got me hooked on your channel and love the work you guys do! Much appreciated!!
I love FD2’s sucks that Canada got them instead of america 🥲
@@dc5fallout America got the Civic Si ;)
@@Buddyclub33 booooo not real fd2, Canadians for the win
These quick and easy builds are great to watch
AGREED!
All it needed was a Header, on the K Series engines, most of the power is made right there when talking about bolt on affairs. Ive seen cars gain 16-20whp with a great header and a tune.
header and free flow cat were screaming for this car...maybe a cut & polish :)
Get all the bolt ons... Vstack, IM, Header, 3 inch exhaust and tune... ur straight
I like the subtle comedy you throw into the videos, it makes it feel like I am goofin around at the shop with you guys
Gotta give it up to you guys for always building some of the cleanest quick builds that stay true to the original lines and design of the car, kinda like a factory OEM+ setup.
As a die hard lowered 8th gen guy I would be pissed if someone took my mudflaps off, otherwise love the build
I wouldn’t even think about mud flaps if someone did all this for free.
I have a crx ....oem mudflaps are hard to find. Now when I see someone removing mud flaps I'm like ...noooooo!! 😁
Right. Since they didn't add the HFP skirts and rear lip, might as well have had them paint matched instead of removing them.
I would’ve put them back on. Killed the look to me
I had a mud flap fall off on one side of my car. The build up of ice on the rocker panel on the missing side was incredible. Since this car sees winter they probably should have left them on for the sake of the rocker panels
Every time you guys do a one of these awesome little simple build series it makes me want to buy some coils and wheels for my first gen SF facelift forester. I think people forget the value of making their daily cool too!!
Those 2 mods will transform your Fozzy. I don't think there's any greater bang for your buck.
@@Momo_8k oh I can believe it, it’s already been such a great car to me. I think it deserves it!!
@@griffengardner do it bruhhhhhh
do it now 🤣
Better hurry .. ebay calling.
Here is a tip for the 8th Gen Si guys for a cheap big brake upgrade. Acura TSX Pads Rotors and Calipers. Rotors are same diameter but thicker, the pad you get 26% more surface area vs the standard Si brake pad. So you get more thermal capacity and a touch more clamping force. Just requires trimming of the backing plate.
Another option is the 4-Piston Brembos from an (05+) Acura TL Type-S (3.5L) with Honda S2000 Rotors. S2000 rotors are a bit harder to find local stock, but easy to find online, the 4-Piston Brembo is used by 72 different cars (Mustang, Camaros, BMWs, Tesla etc etc.) so lots of pad options. However going this route can ruin braking balance if you're not careful.
Other thing, Skunk makes a short throw shifter adapter. Its the stock shifter, you just replace an internal part, its like $65, and you get a nice short throw. Last mod I would do is an Excedy Stage 1 clutch+flywheel. Its like $750 CAD for both parts.
Good call. The car is already using TSX calipers actually ;)
Every time I see the underside of the cars you guys work on I'm so appreciative to live in the Pacific Northwest.
Same. Medford OR represent lol
Happy to be in Texas!
Sik channel! Iam restoring my 99 prelude right now and watching your videos keeps me going. Keep up the wicked content
The algorithm blessed me with your guys channel and I've been binging ever since! You earned a sub my canadian friends ;)
I’m a huge Honda and specifically civic guy. So this is an awesome series. Showing people you can have fun on a budget!
8th Gen Si's are amazing cars. I miss mine. I took it to the Tail of the Dragon two times back when I had it (summer tires and upgraded pads, fluids) and it was as much fun as my S2000 in the twisties. Would love to grab one when used car prices come down, and make it a track toy.
The 8th gen 4dr si's are such a good all around car really fun to drive great for road trips small family no problem track days Honda got that car right.
The best Si they ever made, IMO.
@@alexp6409 hell the eg si hatch will go down in history along with the em1 si that came in that blue other that that the 4dr it just perfect you have to drive or own one to understand how good that car is all around.
Best lighting of any RUclips repair/build channel I've seen. 👍
Enjoying this 8th Gen Civic mod series! Really like the new Enkei T6R wheels although Bronze would have looked great with the Burnt Orange
This comment made me order bronze for my orange 11thgen SI 😅
@@MitchMc91 Awesome 👌
@@FG2-K24A I never even thought of Bronze against Orange until I saw this so I appreciate it
with some massaging you could run a 17x9+22 upfront and a 255/40/17 and max rear you can run is a 17x8.5 +35 with a 215/40/17. It's a really good combo for the car to rotate well with rear sway bar. Also, for the front lower control arm, if you run a spherical (full race, moog, or pci) with TL-S brembos , FD2 brembos or Stop tech kit works to make a fun track car.
Been driving 235f/215r daily for a long time in my FG2, staggerd just suits these cars so well. It just loves to turn and change direction
This is my eventual plan with the car. 255/225
Also please do not run the ktuned or aftermarket clutchmaster. Oem with the deleted dampner is the best solution.
@@DreEzed oh for sure! We recently did a new clutch, DC5R flywheel, EM2 CMC (OEM Honda unit not aftermarket and braided clutch line.
@@makeitshine108 if it ever gives you issues, i would check out k20z3allmotorftw's (eman) clutch master cylinders. He was featured on smokingtire.
Back to doing Honda means this guy is back to watching regularly! I have to say I'd have left the wing and badges alone. The drop, the lip, and the rims... All good.
My favorite generation of Hondas. Reliable, maintainable, and easy to customize. Great car.
I can't express my gratitude Im ignorant of all things cars and I believe I bought the same car yesterday this is going to help so much same color too
With all those salty Canadian winters and hopefully more speed builds coming, you guys could really use a dry ice blaster. Love this series, but seeing rusted parts mated to shiny new ones just rubs me the wrong way.
I’ve been loving the continental extremecontact sports on my Scion FR-S
I put type r red badges on my 17 accord. I know it’s not a type r. But I think they look great paired with the black paint 👍🏻
Should have just blacked out the factory badges. The red on orange and fake type r isn't the best look imo.
Yeah I kinda looks rice ngl
Imo blacked out badges look more rice than a fake red badge
Not a fan of black out badges either.
If anything the blue badges
Orange badge
Y’all are making me want one of these now.
Picked up a 2008 coupe a few weeks ago, they’re incredibly fun and have crazy modding potential with it having a k20 + the honda tuning culture behind it
Get one i have had a few different cars in the past i brought an 2008 4dr si an there isn't anything else newer or older that i rather drive good family car mine is stock with an intake an 3rd gear up it hangs of pulls on Challenger 392 mustang ford st an rs and vw R an super reliable I've had small issues but its a great fun ass car
The car is a fuckin blast, and combines the best of of 90's VTEC with 2000+ build quality/chassis reinforcement. And Honda makes some of the best shifters in the business. Had one for a few months (bone stock) and I loved driving it.
Think I’m gonna buy a Hellcat instead! But cool project anyway
looks good but needs the HFP style side skirts and rear lip to level out the lower section of the car
I hate rear lips lol
I loved it - 8th gen owner
Those Civics looks great, I wish they were this accessible in the UK
I was waiting for this videos since the first minute you uploaded the first one hahaha
I really thought I was going to like the Type R badges on there but it looks horrible with the SI badge on there. Maybe my color sensors are off in my retinas but the SI badge is a totally different red that clashes with the Type R badge and quite frankly it's unforgivable. Everything else is cool though.
AHHHHHH THE SILVER WHEEL WEIGHTS ON A BLACK ALLOY .....ARGGGHHH MY OCD!!!!!
Those weights should come in black. But, when you've got your own shop and all the equipment to do that job... take the two minutes to paint them.
At least paint them black
I fully plan on doing a similar build when I switch out my 06 LX for an 8th gen or 9th gen Si/CSX. This will definitely serve as a good build guide.
Finally 😎😵❤️😍 today only I saw honda civic si outside my dad's office you guys are Soo fun to watch
Thank you so much for this pimp my ride series it’s fun and love seeing a small project from start to finish without having to wait months and months and months… But the big old school JDM builds and engine swap episodes are fun too. Just keep making any content!!! I’d watch DP wash his daily if you filmed it.
After a tune. I say 205 hp because the stock header and cat. And I love the red emblems on them Hondas. I have a set on my s2000 right now.
Dude! Seriously such a transformation. I wish I was there for the before and after drive with the change in suspension
It's hilarious how a regular old civic video gets twice as much views as a supra video from them
Welcome to the internet! Crazy indeed.
The only thing I would highly recommend is grabbing some black stick on wheel weights for the shop. It really ties everything together very well on black wheels. Great video though!
I sold my 07 civic and now im missing it haha so good to watch this builds keep it up!
Change all the chrome to gloss black, get the rear window guards, and that'll be a wrap!
Used to have the rear window visors but they fell out lol.
@@makeitshine108 Lol. Love your ride!
@@TekuJames thanks! I love it even more now 🙂. Hope you are liking the series.
All it needs is that chrome mustache on the trunk wrapped in gloss black.
Carbon fiber. ;)
Agreed, Carbon Fiber!!!
carbon fiber wrap would be rice
Gloss would match the wheels, carbon wouldn't.
@@xxx_ray not if done right
I had an FA5 2007. I superchargedit with comptech stage 2. It was so fun to drive.
Those wheels Changes the whole look of Civic Si.
I went with bc coilovers a 32mm I believe front sway bar and a 26mm rear sway bar the largest I can find really. Probably too big but I'll figure that out later right now I'm trying to figure out rim and tire fitment
Glad you guys are showing love to 8th gen still. I'm loving how you guys are showing the install of the rim on the tire and all the little stuff that happens behind the scenes of making these small great video. The chrome trunk lid needs to go! imo
the 19 yr old in me is excited about the build like the pimp-my-ride reveal. the now 40 yr old me feels bad for the kid who will now get roused by every thing on the road including minivans, especially minivans.
You can still mod a minivan! I found myself lusting over a modded Lexus UX recently.
There was also the SQ5 owner who modded his to run 11s : ruclips.net/video/qmQtfkujQ-g/видео.html
Man, if I had the money to throw at my civic. I’d be there in the blink of an eye. The coil overs, the control arms, the sway bar, the wheels and tires. I need all of that.
Man, you guys have really come a long ways. Awesome job guys!
I've been a fan since the A$$ 2000 days and was instant subscriber. That in mind, your production quality has gone through the roof!
Kudo's guys. Love how you are showing more fun and humor in your new recent videos. We can definitely appreciate how much extra work that takes with your RUclips movie Magic. Bravo!
I'm a simple man. I see question marks over wheels, I click on the video.
The red emblems pop for sure! Overall it looks amazing nicely done!
I hope you guys take it to the track. I'm very curious to see how composed it stays out there. Also interested to hear about the ride going from the koni srt's to the coil overs
I am addicted to watching this series now... 🔥
I typically love everything on the builds that you do. I’m a fan of everything you did BUT the wing. I think that’s just me though. I’m more of the sleeper kind of guy where no wing is more appealing to me than large wing. BUT, even with the wing, the car looks amazing as always. Nice job.
I used the 9th gen sway bar. Really good upgrade with whiteline endlinks and urethane bushings
did you feel a difference? i'm debating if i should get the 9th gen rear sway or keeping the stock one, i couldn't find any review
@@RMFA5 I love it. Worth the price. Just get the right size bushings and I upgraded to whiteline end links. Cost like maybe $160 total. But you can reuse the factory endlinks but might as well upgrade.
Great build guys! Just a word of caution with the adhesive removal wheel, it's quite abrasive. So for guys using it, similar to a buffer pad, you can burn through the clear coat and into the paint if you're not careful. So lighter pressure is better to remove the 3M double sided tape.
Honda lover pattern Brought me here!
The Type R badges realy took my heart away.
Dang Alex got you the hookup over at Enkei… those T6R’s just came out. Might be the first car that has them.
Replica Mugen wing? Check. Type R badges on an SI? Check
Shes ready to roll boys
Ugh, please God no.
If it hasn't been done yet, def change the clutch master cylinder to an em1 unit. Best mod you can do to this chassis.
We just did a new Exedy clutch, DC5R flywheel, EM2 CMC and new slave :)
Love the wheels, big _eeew_ on the red emblems though.
Love these builds! Mostly commenting to help algorithm.
You guys never miss!
Great build! I'll never sell my 8th Gen FA5. First mod I did 11 years ago was remove front mud guards. Cant say I'm a fan of black wheels on a civic or the cliche Type R badging. Why not just a cabon fiber H logo if your gonna change it on an orange car. Just my tase I guess. Love the Vids! THO🔥🔥
Man this makes me miss my 8th generation civic
I'd love it if you guys did a couple jdm legends videos on the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 / GTO. That platform gets no love for how important it was back in the day
This series reminds me of Project Car magazine. I miss that magazine a lot.
Loved the PD waiting scene. Day dreaming of lapping tracks and tending to his beard. 😂
I like it including the badges the right height doesn’t seem to be too low big ups
Time to sell my Mazda 3 and buy an 8gen SI and mod it like this one you guys made it look so Damm nice love it
A little less than $1400 is cheap??? I found my coil overs for my 2008 Honda for less than 400, and they’re brand new. I might be thinking USD not CND but still lol. Love the build and it looks amazing 😍😍
We have some sellers that sell our products on eBay but Annex coilovers are not meant to be the cheapest suspension option. We cater to those that have already tried varous cheap suspension options and are ready to invest in something durable, comfortable yet very track capable.
@@AnnexSuspensionGroup Thank you so much, honestly! I just subbed to your channel and I’ve been looking for some Annex Suspension components for my new car, (for track purpose) you guys sound like a great group! I’m going to look right now, thank you!
@@fitkid1163 thanks for subscribing! Our ClubSpec Pro product is killer on track with multiple track records under our belt. They are still very streetable too as we always care about ride quality. Don't hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions about suspension in general, we're enthusiasts ourselves.
@@AnnexSuspensionGroup Oh my gos you guys are the most engaging group I’ve ever seen and I can see y’all care about the customer, thank you so much, I’ll look into those!!! Have a great day @Annex Suspension Group!!
Haha I definitely rock those mudflaps for their intended purpose, on a black car the sides get coated in road grime and muck so quickly without them
Its the honda builds that makes me loyal to watch 😀
Love the wheels and suspension upgrades. I personally would have left off the wing and gone with black badges.
Removing Konis... that couldn't have felt good.
That's what I was thinking. Unless those shocks were blown, there's no way some eBay coilovers are going to ride better than Koni street shocks
EDIT: Annex coilovers are not eBay offbrand coilovers, that's my bad for assuming. Good info in the replies
yup. Koni shocks and lowering springs were the way to go. They should have just replaced the springs with some tein s-techs off ebay... Especially considering this thing sees winter salt, those coils are going to be seized soon
The coilovers from Annex Suspension seem to replicate the same business model that Fortune Auto has. As a Fortune 500 user myself, I'm curious how well these coilovers perform.
But to your point - I had a set of Koni yellows and GF210 springs on my old MR2 turbo. Loved them.
I have Konin SRT or what they are called. I'm considering going back to Sachs shocks and H&R springes.
Was gonna say the same. A tried and true brand vs some new company that looks like is trying to copy fortune auto and my opinion on fortune auto aren't exactly good. Should have just used lowering springs
I am excited to see the final video. Especially since you'll be doing something to the interior. Great series gentleman. (:
Clean up and reinstall factory splash guards, Honda guys pay big money for those. They look good and help protect paint.
I’m not a fan of black wheels. It’d be nice if they had a silver strip on the rim to break up the black. The car looks awesome though. Great work as always.
I like the style of this Gen. Civic better than 10th Gen Civic. Car looks awesome!
Wow I didn't know that continental does a package like that. Great customer service
Excellent job speed academy!! The way this videos are brought together is phenomenal. Keep up the work 👍👍
Very excellent content. I am recently a new subscriber since the part 1 video. Really I don't know how people dislike this excellent content!
I’m just now seeing this video series ! Omg this is my dream civic si but in a coupe
Absolutely love these quick builds. Also the car looks amazing. Love those 4 door si's.
I love the 8th gen attention! getting some motivation for my fg2!
This car is incredible! Love it!
Great Video! 8th gen si gang 💯 best si ever built
Love it outside of the black piece on the spoiler
now for the lube, sway bar "oooh" hehe full stiff, great video, enjoy the relaxed nature and all the info.
Should have painted those weights bro black it would have been nice
Never stop doing the comedy skits lol, they trip me out in a good way😁👍
I hate getting old. .. late 1990s modifying my Civic EJ1 was more fun as well as racing . 😁
Honestly if Honda’s are y’all’s passion, you should just do Honda’s majoritively. I hate Honda’s with a passion, as the 4G63 is better, but this episode and the previous one was way more enjoyable than even the jdm legends ones. Your passion for Honda’s comes out and your joy is genuine and infectious. Do what you love, guys. Don’t push yourself to do stuff you don’t enjoy, because we the audience can tell the difference.
As a peruvian honda fan, I must say that you guys are amazing, Since the beginning I was hopping that you guys weren't those who liked to pretend sth that you are not, like the moment when you removed the "mugen" batch from the spoiler... but.... WHYYYYY ARE YOU PUTTING THE FREAKING TYPE R BATCH IF THIS A FREAKING SI?¡?¡?¡?¡?¡ :-D ... well... I still love you guys! Thanks for your videos
i cant wait for the next episode! im K swapping my CRX and i really like to see how much power the factory motor put out with minor bolt ons and a tune
I really miss the TMP testing! Is it only me?
These 8th gems have jumped in price
