Thank you for this video. I’m a recent widow and had my yard mowed this year for me. Needing to get the mower from the shed to the garage for service pick up and a plow attachment put on, your video gave me confidence I could do this without help…and I did! I think I will be able to tackle my property (2 acres) for mowing next spring (and will watch your video again, for sure). Thank you!
thank you! I just bought a S110, they left it on the front yard and I couldn't turn it on to drive it into the backyard shed, lol. I've never had one before and my hubby won't be home for at least a couple of weeks. I even thought of buying a cover and just leaving it out there, but thanks to your video (very well explained and demonstrated) I was able to turn it on and drive it into the shed.
Just bought a home and it came with a D140 - but no manual. I've had other brands of lawn tractors as well as a compact JD tractor so I was familiar with some of the controls. This video explained everything I needed to know. Thanks so much for putting it together!
Thanks for a great video. I didn't even know I had cruise control or that I could mow in reverse! I have a large yard and this new-to-me info will really come in handy!

Great video and explanation but nothing is as good as the older John Deere’s. I have a 332 and 314 and they run amazing. I’m sure the new ones get the job done but the older ones look better to me. I love the kohlers and yanmars they used to put in them
Not this model but I really need help on where to have the choke lever when operating on a different John Deere mower. My John Deere mower has has two levers choke lever and a throttle lever. The throttle lever is on the left and the choke is on the right. But I have no clue where it is supposed to be when driving at Full Throttle I go through so much gas because no matter where I put the choke it doesn't really change the way it feels when you're driving it. Is it supposed to be all the way up or all the way down?
The choke is supposed to be up when you start it and then all the way down after you let it warm up for a minute or two depending on how cold it is outside but the choke should be all the way down when you’re running full speed.
Watch the video all the way through. I show you how to cut in reverse. The engine will shut down if your trying to cut in reverse until you learn how to cut in reverse. I think it starts around the 6 minute mark.
Have a question. When I engage the blades, the engine starts making a VM popping noise and shakes like it wants to stall out. Was serviced by John Deere about 4/5 months ago.

It is very hard to say unless you can check all bearings on the mower deck, transmission, , belts, wheel bearings and just hearing it run tells me a lot. Hrs are at half the life of tractor so in great condition you should be getting half the price of a new one but without seeing the tractor myself that most likely would not be accurate. There are always something needed to those machines after they get past the 200 hour mark. .
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines 250 hours is half the life? Dang, I just bought one for $800 lol, wish I knew that. I put 200 hours on my ATV every few months and it’s still awesome, I’d have thought a good John Deere would get thousands. Thanks man for answering. 👍👍👍
@@shanek6582 A sales rep from John Deere told me the low end John Deere “L series, D Series and now the S series were only made to last 300 hrs. I know that sounds crazy and I also think that he is a salesman and he just wants to sell you a new machine. I think you should get at least 500 if you take care of them and I have had customers get over 1000 hrs with a lot of preventative maintenance! Good luck with yours and if there is anything I can help you with I will.
@@shanek6582 hey i have a e140 that i bought for $200 and fixed it about 2 years ago and it’s still running and cutting perfect. So far it has about 450 hours on it and no sign of stopping yet. If you fully service it will last pretty good
@@manofculture4945 thanks man, makes me feel a little better about mine. I us3d it all summer and works great, it was just disappointing when I heard that it was only supposed to last 300 hours!
I do not yet but I will put that on the list. It may be in several videos to get the entire service “maintenance”. You can search my videos for what your looking for. I think I already have “How to remove the mower deck” I will try and get more online for in in the future.
That reverse button sucks. Having to do that every time you back up. I just got my JD to go along with my Craftsman both are about a yr. old. The crafstman you just turn key after started back to on position and push button and your good unless you kill it. Do it when you crank up and your good the entire time your mowing. JD needs to address this as it will be a big hassel to have to do it every time. Thanks for video though as mine did not come with a manuel and was not shown anything about it. Price was right though as my Son just decided to give it to me.
I 100% agree with you. John Deere should change it but it’s been around forever on them. I have a craftsman and just like yours, I just have to turn the key back one click and you can cut all day. Sooooo nice.
I am also a recent widow-thank you for your video. It helped me understand a machine I feared and knew nothing about. I got it going and mowing now!

Great demo! It hasn’t changed much from my 2006 Model135. Mine is a 42” deck, with a B&S 22hp engine. I have a separate choke lever.

Thanks for the video …. but how do you set your speed for cruise control
Thank you
The farther down you push the forward pedal the faster you go. You can lock the speed where ever you want.
