SMT: Nocturne Hardtype - Troll (Low Level)

Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3299/
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 850 → 1800
- Mind resistance increased to 70% (still considered a weakness)
- Expel resistance and all other ailment resistances increased to 85%
Just 12 additional XP and we have everything we need to take on Matador. That took some precise planning. We need some very unlikely skill changes here - Anti-Force twice, and ideally Anti-Phys, but after hours of attempts I settled for Dekaja. More on that later.
Of the skills available at the moment, only Hama can change into Anti-Force with any consistency. But when I say 'available'... well, the only way to get it is to roll an Angel in a fusion accident. Fun! Toxic Sting should supposedly work, but it won't attempt an upgrade at all for me. I don't know if this is misinformation or just mod-related jank. It seems like skill change mechanics were messed with, possibly inadvertently since I can't find any forum discussion or explanation about this from zombero.
Anyway, after many hours of fusion and RNG nightmares, we're ready for Troll. There's not much to say about this battle. Although his resistance to ailments has been upped considerably, a sexy bumrush is still clearly the best strat. I try some Dark Might abuse here, and although it's been nerfed to 50% crit rate in hardtype, it's still pretty good.
This battle is where the final pieces of Matador prep come together. We learn Cadenza, Rakukaja, and upgrade one of the Anti-Forces to Void Force. After the hell of trying to get Media in the Specter fight, I was relieved when this upgrade happened on my first win :D - Игры

@@bookoostrikes It's not a fixed # of turns, it's totally random. Sometimes he snaps out of it immediately and others he'll just sit there indefinitely.

Jim are you fusing new demons or developing space rockets with these skill morphs
All the skill changes I did are at the start of the vid. I did the changes with Mou-Ryo because it doesn't have any other upgradable skills, so it would always pick the right skill to morph. Then once I got the skill I wanted I fused it onto something else.

I want to say that my first troll had ultra instinct he dodged my status like 3 turns in a row and when it did hit he healed after one turn absolute madlad still won first try though

@@Ashcoop Mostly your nickname, but they address you by your full name a couple of times. I'm pretty sure no-one ever uses Isamu or Chiaki's surnames after the game lets you choose them though.

may I ask what witchcraft did u use to make ur game look this good?
Probably widescreen hack and increasing the internal native resolution in pcsx2. Did that on persona 3 and .hack//infection and they looked crisp. The models and textures in ps2 games are really held back by native resoution.

@@jaqand7280 yea it looks fine for everything else but a few games I test. Nocturne has that awful ps2 motion blur that makes the graphics look extremely blurry. But only when im walking around, in battle it looks completely fine

With savestates and speedup it's not too bad, the key is to fill out the demon roster first so you make the pool of demons it can give you as small as possible.

Yup, it used to be 100% crits but now it's 50%. Still pretty useful early game.

Jim Reaper@ ok. I think smt I generally has some of the best looking enemies and battles in all of jrpgs. I was drawn in by how the demons looked. It helped with drawing. How the demon look crazy and just amazing. Plus the story is good
