Every month, Aquatic Moon hosts a "Concept design challenge" on our discord server. It is NOT a competitition. Anyone can join, and there is no prize.
I will be featuring all of the entries in a reaction video at the end of each month. This month the challenge was to redesign the ugly shrines from Zelda Breath of the Wild.

And thank you for doing this challenge and giving your comments. Really appreciate it.
So, part of the problem solving for the shrines:
1. They need a flat space for the player to teleport to
2. They need to be easily visible from a distance and have an activation sequence
3. Shrines need an element to display whether or not they have been completed (in the game the "head" of the shrine turns blue when finished)
4. There has to be a way into the micro dungeon (the elevator in the regular shrines)
Lore to consider: The ancient Shiekah color schemes of neon orange, neon blue, gray, and tan
The designs of the Guardians are from the same people and should reflect that.
The modern shiekah use the Japanese aesthetic, as do the Yiga, and both are descendants of the engineers of these structures.
bonus points for using the constellation and swooshy patterns in a way that doesn't look hideous like the ones in the game. XD

While I quite liked the shrine designs, I can totally understand you not liking it. The Sheikah aesthetic was based on the Jomon Period of Japanese pre-history. If you look at pottery from that period, you can see the shrines are just a Jomon pot turned upside down. I like how they stylized it with the lights and all that, but they could have taken it a bit farther. I'm kinda sad I didn't catch this challenge, but I'll try and catch the next one!
