  • We go decade-by-decade looking at the most important designs created. We start with the 1960s and examine the works of Dieter Rams and Verner Panton. Rams from Germany made his name designing products for the electronics company Braun. Panton made his name as a furniture designer and interior decorator, especially when he created the Panton S Chair.

"with Rams emotionally has nothing to do with his design" is wrong statement. Rams understand the function and that function related to human as the user. And to know the user's problem and say that his design is in function, Rams must be done empathy, which empathy is emotion related. Because it is human centered design, human tied tight with emotions. Its just Rams, didn't show his emotion in the end result, but in the process he done it.

( sorry my english) I totally agree with your vision of design, and what you think about Panton. But, it is true that the Panton chair is a confortable and well designed chair. The question is, design has defined by the metodology to achieve a product or, can be call design to a ( no matter who made it) well created object.

You do understand that the Panton Chair, was the first chair in the history of the world to be produced as a single piece. Thats a pretty big problem solved.

Rams never said "less is more" he said "less, but better". its a big difference once you start to think about it.
