It's great to hear Dickey & Duane's parts isolated . VERY interesting. They wrote The Book on how 2 guitarists in a band should work together. Both were/are incredible soloists, improvisers, and both are SUPERB rhythm players. They back each other up and Gregg's singing perfectly. The ABB were a perfect example of ALL FOR ONE & ONE FOR ALL philosophy. After Duane, then Berry Oakley's death, Dickey stepped up BIG for the band with his songwriting, taking some singing pressure off Gregg and playing his butt off.

My favorite, also. Jessica and his playing on Ramblin Man, hooked me from the get-go. There are and have been a lot of great guitarists, but none I had rather listen to than Dickey Betts.

I have been listening to them since I was 13 and have never gotten tired of hearing this song. Originally Duane wanted a trio with Berry and Jaimoe, but as the Jacksonville jams developed it became apparent that a six piece group was perfect. Spectacular.

Hi! I saw the Allman Brothers in 1973 at R.F.K. Stadium in Washington D.C., and I was lucky enough to hear "JESSICA" LIVE, before the "BROTHERS AND SISTERS" album came out! Dickey announced that from his on stage mic just before the band played it! WOWOW! I can still hear it in my minds eye!! one really cool thing about this that I never realized before is that the comping Dickey is doing under Duane's solo is E to a quick D to A. I'd mostly been playing E straight to A all these years. Probably adds a lot of color to Duane's solo.

Great rhythm player as well. Duane could stretch out on a solo and chase it, knowing the rest of the band was right there backing him up, following his every nuance. Duane did the same for Betts.
Beautiful playing. thing about this band performance is you can't take it apart...it's the group groove, from every perspective, that makes it magic. We got Duane, we got Dickey, now I'm waiting for the Berry part to be isolated
How can anyone pick the best guitarist.... each one is as unique as each players personality. Great is great.. and there are so many greats to pick from. 😀
I would say the genre takes precedence here. Personally, I don’t think Duane’s slide playing has ever or will ever be touched. And his lead parts , how he played circles around the melody of their songs, was incredible. He was definitely the mainframe of the group. I was at a dance in South Georgia when we heard the news that Duane had been killed. A friend and I spent the rest of the night sitting in the parking listening to the ABB on the radio. That’s all they played. Of course we all have different tastes, but as a guitarist myself, I just don’t think their innovation and spontaneity will ever be matched. They were the primo jamming band. When the band was “born” they played 5-6 hours non stop and Duane ran over and blocked the door and said “ anyone who doesn’t want to play in my is going to have to come through me.” What a history! And they never played any song the same way twice.
Incredible to hear Dickey & Duane both isolated and the Instrumental version you uploaded. Such a great tune. Would it be possible to do the same isolations of Dickie & Duane and an instrumental version of Midnight Rider? I have heard for years that Dickie just sat down at a pedal steel and did his solo on the record but everyone insists he is playing his Les Paul and imitating the steel sound. Thanks for your ups and your channel!
Clean, smooth, beautiful.........It isn't how fast you play, its how you bend those strings.........If you want another guitar duo that were great listen to the old 1972 album "ARGUS" by Wishbone Ash. They were British and had a real English sound. Andy Powell and Ted Turner put dual guitar bands on the map.

Amazing, the whole time I thought the lead - when not doubled - was Dickie Betts. Now I find out Duane did a lot of the solo lead guitar.
I'm 67 and no lov. Awww
This helps my soul
Nicely done!
Cool, liked both guitar isolations, thanks
Mitchell Lopate, I think you are spot on.
Wow!

Clean, smooth, beautiful.........It isn't how fast you play, its how you bend those strings.........If you want another guitar duo that were great listen to the old 1972 album
"ARGUS" by Wishbone Ash. They were British and had a real English sound. Andy Powell and Ted Turner put dual guitar bands on the map.
Just blows my mind how you can hear Dickie playing his Les Paul- idiosyncrasies are what make for beautiful playing.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve tried to get this note for note. And failed!
Thank you my Jesus for bringing me thru the fire, how sweet these days were..not many left from this time..peAce n love to ALL💜🤴

Guitar magic
They were just different which is great when you have to lead players.
Hello and thanks for these awesome tracks!
I blended Duane's, Dickey's and Berry's parts together for us to get the full experience.
Thanks again! Check it out if you want and keep up the good work!
