I'm curious about the model? It says Classic on the truss rod cover. I wonder if the guitar is actually a Custom Shop or a Classic? Or maybe when they set it up they just put whatever truss rod cover that was laying around and put on there?
Back when he first joined the Allman Brothers Band, I read an article where he was talking about how humbled he was to be in the band and playing Duane Allman's parts. That article gave me a lot of respect for him.
They probably took a tax write off due to the defect and could not sell it as a result. It's a good thing that it hung on the wall for a while and got resurrected before it got destroyed.
That was a six hour show with a rotating cast of bassists and other musicians that served as a grand finale to the period after the death of Allen Woody when many of Allen's bass idols stepped up to help out with gov't Mule recording the two volumes of "The Deep End".
Those 2 little screw holes on or around the 21st fret of the lower bout can easily be filled in & repaired in a way that you would never have know that they were there. But Warren doesn’t care cause this guitar sounds good. Maybe those holes are actually adding to the guitar’s acoustic resonance.
That tone is something I have heard so many times. Live versions of "Old Friend" come to mind. It looks like the one he used in the early days of the Mule. He stopped playing it after Allen passed. Is this that same one? I sure looks and sounds like it.
If the guitar was sitting around for 2 years then the glue and paint has properly dried out. The timber has also had time to settle so it's always going to sound better than a new one.
I have a 2015 Les Paul Traditional and a 2023 Les Paul Gold Top Standard. $2,299 for the Traditional and $2,799 for the Gold Top. I can't put down the Traditional. Thinner neck and bright when you play acoustically with alot of sustain.
It looks like Tobacco Sunburst to me, and Warren mentioned he was looking for one in that finish at the beginning of the story, so that's probably what it is. I've seen those "iced tea" bursts too, they're pretty sweet looking, very similar but maybe just a shade lighter than tobacco on the edges?
1:33 warren says,it had no tuners , no pickups,no electronics it was just wood , & John says but it was strung up 👀 Was he even listening to what warren just said NOPE lol John does this kinda thing a lot lol ,we derimg how it could be strung up with no tuners ? maybe he knows something we all don’t , or don’t know nothing the WE ALL KNOW lol Either way , I do like his gear series !
So what model is the guitar? Is it a '59 LP reissue or a historic? I believe there were only 600+ '59 Les Paul's made and now they're worth hundreds of thousands. Somewhere there's a little old lady that has a spare bedroom and under the bed collecting dust is a '59 Les Paul that her husband bought for $300 dollars and played a little before he threw it under the bed. He passed away and it's been hidden from the grand kids and the sunshine for years waiting for someone to write a check for 1.3 million. (Russell)
Yes, because you or I could walk in to the Gibson custom shop, screw around for awhile, and have them take a blem guitar body off the wall, finish it in 15 minutes and walk out with it. Special people get special privileges
What makes it illegal? NOTHING. It was Gibsons property and they gave it to him. Its not like it was a copy of a Gibson with a Gibson name... More LAME click bait!
Could be the accountants. If they had filed it as a loss with IRS they couldn’t have sold it. Of course nothing would prevent them from selling him a 3k “pair of pickups” in order to make this legal.
@@WesFanMan still wouldn't make it illegal. They could have called it however they wanted and they could have sold it in whatever condition they wished as long as they made sure the buyer understood the issues with the product and consented the purchase. Only plausible illegal activity would be to sell an item that was already deemed unsellable and filed under Obsolescence Deductions to reduce the taxable income. But then again, it's just a fun colorful anecdote from times past.
ok so did he end up paying for it or not it wasn't real clear did they call it "the pretty turd" then sale it to him? it's funny how the music industry is you can't afford one when you need one and when you're successful and can afford anything you want they give it to you example Ace Frehley's 59 I guess he let Gibson scan his and for that Gibson gave him 12 copies of his 59 sitting on his doorstep when he got home from vacation(what a sad day lol)he said he'd sale a few for about $60,000 each then go buy a new jaguar car, must be nice but Ace has paid his dues btw I don't have a problem with it I meant it is funny how the industry is on how celebrities are treated to be clear, ACE⚡FREHLEY

I think that we can all agree that John's enthusiasm takes these interviews to another level. Great guy!
Agree..........such a smiley smart dude.........also often has wet patch armpits!! I feel for him looking back at the footage!
Have John interview everyone
He's got some chops too!
It had no tuners, no pickups or electronics, it was just wood. But it was strung up!?! LOL
I’ll watch any Rig Rundown with John. Even if I’m not a fan of the player or the music.
I can pick Warren playing out of a million players, his phrasing is unique as hell.
And singing
Warren is such a great player and is just as humble as can be during his Interviews.
The old saying.. guitar, amp or player?.. Warren and that guitar are awesome!
I coveted that guitar for a long time…never knew that story lol😮
So..,they can't legally sell it because it has 2 extra screw holes but the ones they do sell for thousands have major QC issues.
Hmm. ......
The custom shop is another level.
@@goodknight37Another price level. Not craftsmanship.

One of my all time fav albs is Gov't Mule's The Deepest End. Warren is amazing!

That Paul sound amazing, such personality, simply beautiful.
OMG! Awesome tone! Slide, YEAH!!! 🤘 👏👏👏👏
Damn thangs have a soul of their own beautiful guitar.
What a guitar!
Warren: It had no tuners.
John: But it was strung up?
😔
Exactly. Lots of people like his interview style, but just like everything in life, you have to pay attention to be at the top of your game.
@@guillermo3564apparently he is at the top
Right ., “ But it was “ Strung up “ payed ZER0 attention to what he just said !
lol, I caught that too.
Talk about not paying attention. Sheeeesh!
Love you Warren. Thanks John. Magic City !!
Love this video! Man does that guitar sound great Warren can freaking play
Love the foundation of the band
Warren has serious skills !
THANKS WARREN WHAT A GREAT STORY
Legend
Yes Goose Bumps All Day Man !
Warren M.F. Haynes!
Great sound... It's huge!

Furniture repair crayon.
'I screw these two little holes in a les paul and it sounds UNREAL!'
Gibson is like zildjian, they get it right once in a while
I am not worthy ,lol. What an amazing player with a magnificent guitar.
Amazing story..... I have a 61' reissue SG with Classic 57's..... everyone says I sound the best with that guitar in my hands.....
Pretty sure this was the guitar he was playing the 1995 House of Blues show, that Dreams solo he played was epic…
"It will take about 15 or 20 minutes." Hahahah!
That tone is something I have heard so many times. Live versions of "Old Friend" come to mind. It looks like the one he used in the early days of the Mule. He stopped playing it after Allen passed. Is this that same one? I sure looks and sounds like it.
Warren Hayes is the man. Has more talent in his pinkie than any new artist.
John you are one cool animal 🙈💰
Hope the man got it for free👍👊
He🏒🏒 yeah ‼️🙌🏻🙌🏻
Can you imagine destroying any guitar before it has a chance to live!!!😂😂😂
That looks a lot like Slash's Velvet Revolver guitar, including the coil tap switch. I wonder...
It's not a coil split. It's a global treble bypass on/off switch for when Warren wants more top end as he rolls the volume controls back from 10.
What pickups are in it ?
That man could play a one string cigar box better than most with A 6 string les paul
He should name it "The Outlaw."
Funny how the color is the first thing they care about. (I have heard it a hundred times)
If the guitar was sitting around for 2 years then the glue and paint has properly dried out. The timber has also had time to settle so it's always going to sound better than a new one.
I would just for kicks. Call that Guitar, “The ugly duckling guitar, nobody wanted” . Great story.
Yep
Line up 25 of any kind

Gibson Custom Shop "accidental screw holes" Warren edition +$5k
Can anyone help with what burst/finish this is? Iced tea?

that's not true - of course they can sell it as a second (which is exactly what they did)
exactly
Possibly given.
Not sold.
Someone else mentioned the possibility that Gibson took a tax write off on the “defective “ guitar.
sounds like a second to me....
Nope. No seconds. And no tax write-offs. They are written off as losses.
1:33 warren says,it had no tuners , no pickups,no electronics it was just wood , & John says but it was strung up 👀
Was he even listening to what warren just said NOPE lol
John does this kinda thing a lot lol ,we derimg how it could be strung up with no tuners ?
maybe he knows something we all don’t , or don’t know nothing the WE ALL KNOW lol
Either way , I do like his gear series !
I guess that’s why it doesn’t say “Les Paul Model” on the headstock.
Wow the interviewer is thicker than a plank of wood. Haha. No tuners but asks if it was strung up. Hahahaha
Strung up without tuners
Warren should of busted out the tune One Way Out when he brought the slide out.

so, Gibson could not sell it, did he get it for free?
He shouldn't get a pass on trafficking illegal guitars just because he's famous. If it was you and me we'd be treated completely different. Smh
