4 strymons? That's enough to get into heaven, but I would probably swap out the el cap for the timeline if you really wanna secure your spot with the big guy.
I found myself watching these videos and now I have the Strymon Timeline, Big Sky and Blue Sky. I also have the Kilt V2 for my worship Pedalboard. Sad thing is I still play the same😢. I need prayer and practice 😅.
Love it! Yeah it should work totally fine. The only thing I'd be wary of is running too much gain from the amp. If you're running the amp set to a very high gain, then things might sound a little blown up with the reverb going IN to a very dirty amp
Thank you! Including the instructions is a GREAT idea. I'm gonna look into that, but the quick instructions for how to put them into your BigSky is that you'll first need to download Nixie. It's a free software made by Strymon where you can drag and drop presets from your computer into your Strymon pedal. Then, if you don't have one already, you'll just need a midi > USB cable like this to hook up your BigSky to your computer: amzn.to/47Vq9Y4 Once Nixie is open and your BigSky is connected, all you need to do is select the preset and drop it in! Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help!
Sam I’m trying to use my big Sky on our Praise tracks once we’re in the mixing stage on the mix us. I’m not really having much success yet so I must not have the proper cabling or routing. It’s all line level going to the pedal and out back to the interface. If you can shed some light please do! Your playing is awesome!!!!
Man good question! I personally haven’t had much experience using the BigSky in post so I may not be much help. What issues are you running into? Are you running stereo in and stereo out? It may also be worth checking to see if you have the cab filter enabled. I’ve always preferred having that turned off.
I'm new to the guitar effects side of things. Especially effects of this level. I have the guitar. I have the big sky. What do I need to use your presets after I purchase them?
Hi Sam, Thank you very much for your intuitive video. I am thinking of buying a Bigsky, I'm learning the guitar and I have a Roland cube amp and a Fender Stratocaster. I'm new to all of this and I would be grateful if you could tell me if the Bigsky would work with what I've got and would I have to buy special cables etc. I thank you in anticipation of your kind consideration and look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards. Greg.
Hey Greg, that’s awesome! The BigSky would definitely work with what you’ve got, and you wouldn’t need any special cables, just regular patch cables would do the job. Are you running any other pedals or would you just be running into the BigSky, and then into the amp from there?
Thanks Taylor! I'm using two Iridiums so I can have true stereo amps, you can't get that with just one iridium. I do actually have a comparison video between 1 iridium and 2 iridiums on the channel if you're interested
@@SamWittek Interesting. I run my Iridium in true stereo. But it’s only one amp model. I’m guessing you run 2 different amp models for left/right? That would sound sick. I’ll definitely have to check out your comparison video. I feel like i’m going to regret not getting 2 Iridium’s 😅
@@taylorgunn3215 Yep that's exactly what I do, I have a fender (round) on the left and a vox (chime) on the right. I was surprised how much of a difference it made!
Absolutely! I havent personally tried one but it definitely would be simpler than something like the BigSky. From everything I've heard, it sounds great too@@anotherone9219
@@anotherone9219 I think so! Looks like the cloudburst only has the one button so you probably would have to buy an external fav switch to save a swell setting. The Jet Revelation is another great option that has onboard presets, so you could save a swell setting. Its about the same price too
It's for running true stereo amps! One iridium can do stereo out but you're limited to one amp type. Running two together allows you to do two different amp types (like round + chime)
Good question! You can go into your parameters and enable “persist.” This will turn on spillover so it carries over when switching or turning off presets
Thanks David! 🙌🏻Yeah so you can use one of these cables to hook up your BigSky to your computer: amzn.to/3L6Cajx. From there, you'll need to download a free software from Strymon called Nixie, and you can drag and drop the presets into your BigSky there. If you don't have that cable, or don't want to purchase it, I do include screenshots for the settings of each preset. So you could just dial them in yourself that way too!
All you need to do is connect your Strymon to your computer with a MIDI to USB cable like this one: amzn.to/4guKfwt and download Strymon's free editor software Nixie. Once you connect your Strymon, you can download and manage your presets in Nixie
It's totally a personal preference thing but I prefer running them before! I don't really like the sound of wet effects after the amp. But again, totally up to personal preference!
Hey there! I've got my BigSky presets on my website, feel free to check them out and let me know if you have any questions 😁 www.samwittekmusic.com/shop
Thanks so much man! 🙏🏻 I’d prob go with the Cloud bank, Cloud 1 for more rhythm stuff and Cloud 2 for lead. You can mix and match though if you’re finding Cloud 1 too washy. I’d probably use Bloom 1 in that case for a more dry rhythm tone. You can always make your own tweaks as needed too. Hope that helps!
Ahh yes, I do have this video walking through it in depth: ruclips.net/video/hEh0Yxypuw8/видео.html&ab_channel=SamWittek But the short of it is I'm running the two iridiums in stereo, so I have it one set to a Vox setting on the L and the other is set to a Fender setting on the R.
@@SamWittek Wow...thats pretty cool! Let me ask...I am learning jazz guitar and want to design a pedal board...If I am going to be playing mostly on a combo amp is having the Iridium kind of moot or will it still help out alot?
@@mg9009 nice! I guess it would depend how you use it? If you're primarily using a combo amp, the Iridium could be a nice noiseless solution if you wanted to practice quietly and monitor with headphones. If you were wanting to go stereo using the combo amp AND the iridium, then I'd say it may not make a huge difference with jazz music. I'm sure it'd add a bit more dimension, but the reason it makes such a big difference w/ worship music is because the wet effects like reverb and delay are so prominent, and the stereo amps adds a ton of width to those effects.
Quick question about the packs, is it only the file to load on the pedal? Or do you have a guide of parameters as well? I currently don’t have a midi cable, that’s why I’m asking 😅
Hey Lucas! The purchase includes the files to download as well as screenshots with the settings for each preset, so you'll still be able to dial them in yourself if you don't have the cable 🙂
Hey Devyn! Yeah you may want to lower the mix just a tad. I've noticed when I run in stereo (especially w/ the two iridiums) the mix doesn't feel so "in your face" since it has more room to breathe
So I'm new to this big sky..so if I purchase the patches then do you download them? or does it have like all the knobs written down where you manually put them in?
Yep! If you have a MIDI > USB cable then you can connect your strymon to your computer, and then download the presets directly to your pedal. I also include screenshots with all of the knob locations though in case that's more convenient
Hi Sam, I've been using the reverbs of the Line M5 with the EH Holygrail, and recently, my M5 broke. I need something with ambient reverbs in a small form factor to keep my board small. That being said, I'm considering the GFI System Skylar reverb; what do you think about this one? I want to go with that one because of the price, much cheaper than even the blue sky,
Hey man! I haven't tried that one myself but I've heard really great things about it. Another option to consider could be the new Jet Pedals Revelation, although that may be a bit more expensive than what you're looking for. If that's the case, even the now older version of the Revelation is going for cheaper and still is an absolutely fantastic pedal. Hope that helps!
I’m not super familiar with the fx loop in the stomp but if it can take stereo delay + reverb then you should be good! You may need to tweak to taste though. I dialed them in going into the front of the amps, so you may need to dial things slightly depending on how you like them
