    So let’s address the two issues raised here and first he is welcome to his opinion click bait or not. 1 the infinite switch he has a point of expect if I put the freeze on that I’d get more than dry signal as well but let’s be honest this at most is a firmware update to solve and given the nixie software at release currently doesn’t allow for editing of patches on the Mx could also be surfaced as an option when this becomes available 2, the processor comment he states that the chip is $15 which when looking at building any device is actually expensive most of the time chips on consumer electronics are priced i. The 1-2 dollar if not lower to support mass production and final cost to customer. The comparison to the chip in his ten year old Mac is also unfair, a Mac is built to support a myriad of functions from video editing to simple word processing and sometimes all of the above at the same time, this creates heat which then need a cooling solution which means fans can which means more power consumption. Personally I don’t want an over powered processor on my board in a device that is exposed to much harsher conditions than my computer I want something that is tuned for the task and reliable. So yes it may be lower powered but this means no active cooling needed and it’s instruction set internally is tuned for it’s purpose (don’t forget the space shuttle was running old 486 processors even when more advanced chips were available). Lastly he makes a sweeping g statement that he couldn’t use 50% of the pedals functionality which is why he is returning it. Personally i don’t believe the infinite switch makes up for 50% of the features and functionality of the pedal especially when you take I to account the it processing cab sims new magneto engine and stacking reverbs.now his entire style may rely on infinite which could be his thing which is all good. Great to see his opinion but I would not take it as far as to say everyone should return their pedals because of this.

      Fair enough. But to be fair, the only thing I don’t like is the infinite function. Give me back bank C and the pedal is on my board.

    The take you have on the chip is flat out wrong. Devices like this, including the most high end rack mounted digital effects absolutely do not need a chip like you would find in a Mac. x86 & ARM64 are designed for a totally different purpose, and are optimised for multiple applications running at once. DSP chips have a totally different architecture and use case. The comparison between the clock speeds is pretty much redundant.
    You can make amazing effects running at high sample rates and bit depths with something just a tiny fraction as ‘powerful’ as a general purpose CPU, since DSP chips are solely designed for those audio calculations. Designers also optimise the algorithms when they program for an embedded processor as they know the deployment platform inside-out, something which is harder to do when you have to write a plugin which needs to run well on the myriad of processors available in consumer general purpose computers. I highly doubt that the infinite reverb issue you have is down to limitations of the processor, and I bet (since you can have two reverbs at once in the MX) it would totally be possible to have just one of the algos be infinite on triggering the foot-switch while the 2nd would be available to be used on your live input signal giving you your desired effect. In this case I doubt the MX would even use much more compute than in normal 2 reverbs in series/parallel operation.

      Came to reply this, and made sure someone else had before I did. A 2015 Macbook Pro might have 3x the processing power, but it's generally committed to far more processes.
      Its a similar problem to the guy that does deep teardowns - he craps on Fractal because the Axe FX III has old affordable processors in a unit that's over $2k, while ignoring that they work fine and are stable/reliable. The Axe FX III is in rigs like Metallica and Dream Theater; the sum is far greater (and more valuable) than the parts.

    For me it sounds great, better than my Helix or Headrush built in reverbs and it works and looks great too. 2 reverbs with multiple routing options. Great ambient sounds. Just what I need and want. I don't care that there's extra presets that I don't need. I'll enjoy learning to use the infinite freeze switch over time. I don't need a third choice of reverb instead.

    I thought I was gonna get it for the impulse response but to be honest, I think connvolution reverb makes only sense when doing it on a PC with full tweakability, quick loading in and stuff.
    I mean if I allready have to load in a reference from a pc, why not do the verb on a pc with a more professional alogrithm (e.g.Reverence in cubase)

      The Strymon cloudburst has the same options for freezing and infinite when you use a midi pedal with it or the strymon switch. I use another reverb (Free the tone) in combination with which gives me the flexibility wanted. Also not perfect but if you have a good midi switcher it can work quite well. Was thinking to buy the Strymon MX to solve this problem but apparently it won’t 🙁

    • @CeeJay5s
      @CeeJay5s 2 месяца назад

      @@IkeGuitar The ehx freeze is cool that you can create a similar effect with just 1 reverb, but dual reverbs means that you can combine different algos and make more complex sounds. That's where the extra processor power is going. I have the Old Blood Dark Light and it's the same how a freeze stops new signal from entering the reverb.

    • @CeeJay5s
      @CeeJay5s 2 месяца назад

      @@mbsgt112 It would solve it. Freezing a reverb is supposed to stop new signal from entering the reverb (unless you use the infinite mode, which basically just increases the decay time to infinity and probably cause runaway feedback). That is why you need 2 reverbs. 1 to freeze and 1 to play on top.

  • @Julesacu
    @Julesacu Месяц назад +3

    Interesting to watch. I understand the pedal can do two reverbs at once though - so does that mean you could create a reverb trial using the freeze function -and then just use the A or B switches to switch on another reverb and have that over the top instead of a dry signal? Because that is actually the way I would expect this to work.

    • @IkeGuitar
      @IkeGuitar  Месяц назад

      Yes, you can theoretically do that. But my concern is the fact I don’t want to run two different reverbs even if one is frozen and one isn’t. Seems like a workaround and I have to setup a preset just for that one feature to work how I want it to.

    • @IkeGuitar
      @IkeGuitar  Месяц назад

      Also, that’s a lot of tap dancing in live gig situation. Switch your bank, turn off reverb A, loop reverb B, turn off reverb B, turn on reverb A, and THEN you get to play over B.

    • @Julesacu
      @Julesacu Месяц назад

      @@IkeGuitar Thanks for the reply. I figured the way I would do it would be to have the reverb sound I want frozen on switch A and the reverb sound I want over the top assigned to switch B. As soon as I've pressed the hold function I assumed all I would have to do would be to press one foot switch. I thought this was how some people use the freeze function on reverb pedals that only have one reverb - but they have a second reverb pedal on their board. It's okay if you just want to improvise over one background sound - but I get that if you want to keep changing that sound during one song it will become a pain.

    do you know any reverb pedals or software reverbs that process "infinit" loop in different way? when you do criticism please explain how it should be. technically i see only workaround for this issue - is a feedback amount, currently it'is 100% but dev's should set for example to 50% more or less but not to 100%
    and in certain amount of time older data in buffer will be overwritten or how to rephrase it 'faded out'. it can be easily fixed by new firmware

    • @IkeGuitar
      @IkeGuitar  Месяц назад

      Latch starts the loop. And then enters a pass through state where I can send more reverb input and it won’t add to the current loop.

    • @brandongullion6353
      @brandongullion6353 Месяц назад

      The meris mercury x does it the correct way which is to freeze a loop and then let you play over it with reverb without adding to the loop and overloading it. And you can just unlatch and freeze a new trail when you want to. Most reverbs with infinite features do it that way or the first way he showed on this, with it basically just giving you a dry signal over a reverb pad.

    I disagree with you. I just got an Mx. The infinite switch is a waste but the way the pedal runs with 2 reverbs completely interacting the third switch would be on an island only doing a preset function. I think they kept a 3 switch casing because the timeline Mx will use the same body and it’s cheaper for manufacturing to keep it constant. Also it’s 3 button could be changed with enough complaints and a firmware update

    • @IkeGuitar
      @IkeGuitar  2 месяца назад +1

      I don’t think processing can re-route the infinite function. And I don’t think the form factor is a cost saving measure because they did change the powder coat hue and added space for the panel so they’re not using old enclosures.

    • @MarekUrbanowiczGuitar
      @MarekUrbanowiczGuitar 2 месяца назад

      @@IkeGuitaryou missunderstood the part about cost saving. He/she mentions the fact that they will for sure use the same enclosure for Timeline MX, not that they're using old ones. As they have a platform for all 3 beasts, it is valid point that it will be used across whole line, especially that people like to use 2 or all 3 together which obviously looks nice when they have same enclosures.

      I have the MercuryX and just bought the BSMX. They are certainly different. The MercuryX is essentially Lexicon 224 algos along with Meris’s own designed reverbs. It does sound good and with the added delay function, it has a large palate for creation. The only thing that I don’t like is with decay all the way down, the Lex Hall algo is still too long. This is not a problem with the room algo on it. The BigSky MX has that studio clarity that the original has, but even better now. The big takeaway for me is loading true stereo reverb IRs which requires four channels. The BigSky MX offers this with two stereo IR engines. This is the dual stereo reverb which can be a combo of any of its algorithms. I did find out it will load quad true stereo files, but it sums it incorrectly. In order for this to work, Strymon would need to recognize if a file is true stereo quad, then split it across the dual stereo reverb channels.
