My 686+ 3" came with a rubber grip - I wanted a classy look and got nice wood grips.. switched them back after one session.

yep, exactly the same. I ended up taking a dremel to some hogue grips and got that working pretty well.

I owned a snubby model 66, and I still think it was, with full-powered 158 gr 357 mag loads, one of the most painful guns I've ever fired. It wasn't uncommon to end-up with an open blister on my thumb joint, and my trigger finger felt like it was being hit with a hammer after shooting it for a bit. I can only imagine what this lighter gun is like.

The window in the frame under the barrel is to allow you to reach the ejector rod from its shrouded position in case you need to tighten it back to push it out.

I have a Ladysmith 60 - stainless steel…shoots great and while I find the recoil with full load .357 is tolerable for about the first 25 rounds, I drop back to .38 spcl wad cutters after that.

Hogue 500 recoil absorbing grips that fit all round butt K, L, N , X and Z frames I believe. Try the J frame model too.

The worst recoil I’ve experienced is w/my 340PD shooting 158 grain magnum loads.

Truth! I have a 60-15 3", non pro and haven't even tried 357 out of it yet after feeling that it was one of the harder kicking 38s I've owned, lol. Have wood Pachmayrs on mine and think I'll swap back to the rubber before I load up the 357s.. I think the only real difference with the pro series is some extra trigger work and the slab cut barrel. But frankly my 60-15 has one nicest trigger I've ever owned. Very light and essentially zero travel.

I own 686plus 3" Deluxe it ripped my skin in my thumb webbing! Put some rubber grips on it now no problems , and before someone ask my hands are not soft I'm a roofer.

They also kind of muddied the water between pro series and performance center with the model 327. I’ve got the performance center version w the 4” barrel and it’s nice. Nothing wrong with being a trigger snob as that’s kind of why we pay astronomical numbers for these wheelies.

I am 62 and have been around guns and shooting for quite some time. never was a fan of J frames in calibers bigger than 38 special. rubber grips might help, like Pachmayer compacts. but you can't change the laws of physics. the 357 magnum is a powerful round and it kicks. it kicks out of a N frame, it kicks out of a L frame it kicks out of a K frame. what makes people think it won't kick out of a J frame is beyond me. but if you have something that can take out a bear ( yes , bear with a 357 magnum, it has been done many times, including when the round first came out) than what makes people think that it is going be ok to shoot out of a nice light little tiny gun? just sayin'

I have the regular model 60 also with a 3" barrel. It's only about 2 ounces heavier than model 60 pro series you have there. It also kicks whenever I fire .357 magnums through it though not as bad, I guess, as you've experienced with your model 60 pro series. Could you fire that gun that's fully loaded with .357 rounds with just one hand?
I certainly could fire mine with just one hand. I think that additional 2 ounces helps lessen the recoil a bit.

It’s probably that wooden grip😂 I have a model 60 in 357 magnum but it’s not the pro series like yours. I have the standard rubber grip and it seems to help a lot

22.9 ounces... Yeah, that's definitely too light for Magnums! I'd stick with the .38 +P's. Some of the worst recoil I've ever experienced has been with my LCR with Magnums.
