I remember my gorgeous husband palying the piano (Timothy). He sang this song to me "This is the time to remember" Sadly I lost the love of my life on Dec.25,2010. Part of me died when I lost him unexpectedly! I miss him terribly. he was my "gift" from God. I ahd six wonderful years with him. I'll always miss him :(
Billy Joel can really write those ballads. This song pulls me into a mellon cally feeling that brings back memories of good times. But at the expense of feeling a little depressing. Billy is the virtuoso that can entertain us with his simpler melodies that found their place in popular music of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. He once said that the reason he was a successful musician was not because he was a great musician, but because he worked hard and was consistent in a craft that everyone else(other musicians in the industry) were just not as dedicated to the job as he was. We do not only enjoy his music but we respect Billy for his work ethic and his good character. His image may, at times, come across as not meeting his title as piano man because many of his songs are in the key of C. However, for years Billy Joel liked to write pop songs. And, it turns out that most popular songs are written in the key of C. He is the master at doing it all to write those pop hits. Thanks Billy, and keep touring. You are an Icon. John Jamison
This was (is) "our" song. In the spring of 1987 "we walked on the beach beside that old hotel" and began an amazing 23 year relationship. My dear sweet Jaci passed away of complications from Lupus in November of 2009. But when it started, and every moment thereafter, it was "the time to remember!"
The guitar part is played with such feel. The new era Joel concerts can never match the old ones. I can watch the these 80's concert clips and never get tired of them.
This song has been the background music for some of my most memorable moments.. I love this tack ... one of my favorites .. i like his entire "bridge" album.
That little appreciative smile he gives at the beginning (after the crowd recognized the intro) is everything. ❤️ Probably one of the most raw, beautiful performances he’s ever given. You can see him starting to get really emotional at a couple points and trying to keep his composure. This was at the Spectrum in Philly on October 13, 1986 on The Bridge tour. That entire show is excellent, and there is a pro-shot master out there that I really wish his team would release officially, it deserves to be seen.
January 2002...Penn State University...BJ asked to meet with Joe and Sue Paterno...It was several months after JoePa beat Bear Bryant's record for all time college football wins..Sue asked Billy to play this song (which he had not played live in over 10 years)...To say the least that night, he sang this song...flawlessly and it was just another magical night in Happy Valley...
I loved this song from the moment I heard it, when that album was first released. Lots of gems on The Bridge, and this is one of them, along with A Matter Of Trust, Baby Grand with the late Ray Charles, and Code Of Silence, which he did with the brilliant Cyndi Lauper.
@kja427 I'm sure every morning when he looks in the mirror and says to himself "I'm filthy rich", he has a ton of regret not making a video for this song.

I wanted this for out class song in '91
Wonderful Tonight was chosen!!!
What concert is the original source of this clip from? I was unaware there was a gig from The bridge Tour that was available.
Why didn't he make a video for this tune? Wasn't wise, Billy.
