  • Today we're doing a quick review of what the manual says about engaging/disengaging the 4x4 system and low range. We also cover the factory trouble shooting method if 4x4 fails to engage/disengage. 2020 Winnebago Revel built on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 VS30 chassis with factory 4x4

OMG! Shift-on-the-fly 4x4 has been around since the 80's! So you're traveling down the freeway and you see snow ahead (or you're about to go up a slick hill), just frikken STOP on the freeway and engage your 4x4. Brilliant Mercedes, just brilliant!

I hear ya, wish they could have borrowed some Jeep or Toyota basic transfer case. Nothing complicated or special.

Such a pain in the butt. Picked up our Revel this weekend and went straight to the mtns. Fiddling with the 4x4 was super frustrating. It should be as easy as “push button” and BAM. Grrrr.
Thanks for the video. The troubleshooting you did made a lot more sense than the manual made it seem to be 👍

Will try on my 2020 Revel. I always end up trying many sequences, finally I might get the light to go out and have no Idea what sequence worked... Drove my Brothers Chevy 4x4, the switches are clearly marked and works the 1st time and all the time!

Drove Cherokee I did 2wd to 4wd high at 40mph. Was just test driving it so don't know the min or max speed but dealer said what to push when I asked and it griped gravel road better so I knew it worked. Wish they made low tech 4wd van that worked like that 99 jeep did or my dad's 94s10.

Good video. I love the Revel (purchasing soon), but hard to believe that MB doesn’t have an easier method of getting it in to 4x4H like pretty much all other vehicles nowadays.

True, most can shift on-the-fly these day.

Works for my 2022 Revel. I tried many other ways recommended by others but didn't get it to work. Your sequence is clear and works perfectly. Thanks a lot.

Why do you leave the air compressor on all the time?

The whole point to the D N R N pattern is to unload any strain on the drive train. Have you tried going 6mph with the button engaged and letting up on the gas almost like shifting a big truck without a clutch? I would assume this improves as parts wear in. I’m interested in getting one. Any experience with deleting the def, exhaust filter, egr diode, and rentech obd mod? The 20 model other than being lithium seems to be better equipped🤷 Thanks for the video✌️

There was a service bulletin for the software that has helped with 4x4 engagement but I don't use it too often. As far an alphabet delete and tune, this will be my first diesel I haven't messed with. Not worth tuning unless you delete everything and not interested in hunting down parts to do all that.

This video is a classic example of the serious flaws in the Mercedes design on 4wd! I have owned 2 of them in the last 4 years “still own one” , I have been driving 4wd vehicles for 60 years And I have never seen such a quirky infective engagement and functionality as offered be Mercedes. In most case you have to be at a standstill to put into neutral push the switch and hope the light locks in..shift back to forward or reverse and 4wd transmission only engages after rolling several feet before actual engagement. If you are already stuck in the mud or sand and spinning and can not get the vehicle to roll several feet in either direction 4wd will not engage. Dealers don’t understand this or acknowledge this, Mercedes customer service will plead ignorance. This is a topic on numerous blogs and discussion of a class action suit. Basically if you are going to drive these vans and are in any conditions of unknown traction get it into 4wd while you can still move and before you get stuck and maybe you will get home without a towing bill or unexpected embarrassing adventure.

Maybe you should have started with telling us how to put in neutral

You can’t have a 2020 Revel on a 2019 chassis. It’s a 2019...look at your title or registration. You’re paying for a new vehicle, but you’re not getting one. Use your mind, and stop listening to a lie. They are buying last years model, and selling them as new....they profit by the depreciation, and by you believing it’s a new van.

Fully aware of the vehicle's model year, Winnebago calls it a 2020 as they launch it late 2019. Every car manufacturer does the same thing. It's not really something that concerns me.

This is very common with RV’s. Even the 2021 and 2022 Winnebago Revel’s are built on the 2019 Mercedes chassis. They come with two VIN’s the Mercedes and the RV VIN. When registering they go by the RV VIN number.
