    Wow - beautiful, charming, historically rich. Looks very liveable.
    So good how you could help the woman with deterring the dogs. Right time, right place, right shirt.

    Hola Mora! Well, we arrived in Morelia last week after a two-week drive from Nova Scotia. Everything has worked out magically. We love our little AirBnB and our adorable hostess has agreed to rent it to us (off AirBnB) for six months or longer. We will come to Patzcuaro and Tzintzunzan after the holidays and hopefully can arrange to meet for a coffee. Joelle and I loved this video, it is so inviting, and you do such an excellent job of editing, with just the right music...Thank you again for sharing your magical day...

      @@MoraMargaret Supremely cool! You have another treat in store. From December to February, monarch butterflies migrate to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO Heritage Site) in eastern Michoacan and stretching into the State of Mexico. I remember driving from Mexico City to Michoacan years ago around that time. We had to slow down to 5-10 mph so the butterflies wouldn't be wounded. There were literally millions of them all around. Another wow of nature!

    This was another great video, Mora! I felt like I was in Morelos in a town (Pueblo mágico) in the mountains called Tepoztlán. It looks so much like Tzintzuntzan, which I had never seen before. The church with the large yard is so similar to the main church of Tepoztlán as well. There’s a market in the center of the Pueblo that has some of the best food around! It seems like it must be time for the cemetery clean up for Day of the Dead . Hasta luego!

    Hi MM,
    The orange/yellow flowers you saw are the famous cempasúchil (“sim-pah-sue-chill”😎) aka Mexican marigold. (I suspect there’s a purépecha word for them, too.) They play an important role in the Day of the Dead ceremonies all over Mexico, so you may see them everywhere during this time. They are also used to produce a dye, which, strangely, is fed to chickens to deepen the color of the yolks in eggs, and to shrimp to make them look more “shrimpy”. SMH. Notably, the plants are actually native to the area you’re in.
    It’s fascinating to consider how much incredible detail and meaning can be found on a day trip like this, in a flower, or an item on a menu, or in the life of the person being laid to rest.
    Thanks for the video; I’m always glad to see them when they appear on RUclips.

      Thanks so much for your comment! I did not know that about the dye. I mistakenly said carnation in the video but yes it's cempasuchil. I went to see the flower farms, it was so beautiful!

    Here is scoop on the migration of the monarchs that's just about to start in earnest (after the Día de los Muertos. "The monarch butterfly migration in Mexico begins around Day of the Dead in early November and lasts until mid March. But the monarch butterfly sanctuaries officially open to the public once they have arrived and settled in larger numbers, around the third week of November.
    Tip: It’s best to visit the butterfly sanctuaries in Mexico during the week versus the weekend. You will be rewarded with fewer people and no lines. From my experience, you’ll also be allowed to stay and observe the butterflies for a longer period of time."
    PS - In my experience, you can see thousands while hiking or driving in the area. They come in big numbers.

    Hi Mora, wonderful video but I'm a bit confused. You said you don't recommend people come there right now because of safety reasons, yet you are out and about exploring and enjoying the area. Is it safe or not?

    • @MoraMargaret
      @MoraMargaret  39 минут назад +2

      Well, this is a very good question. I feel safe. The people around me seem to feel the same way and are enjoying the area. At the same time there was a violent altercation a few weeks ago that was scary, just 30 mins away. And the US State department says don't come here. To tell you the truth I have very mixed feelings about it. I'm staying and loving the area. I'm even thinking on staying long term. But the facts are there have been some problems in pueblos not too far away. But many places in the world could say that. Ultimately it's up to every individual. Sorry to sound contradictory. It's not a black and white situation.
