  • Hey guys! Today I wanted to share a 2 month update on my Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma that I combined 3 plants + cuttings into one pot. Everything is going smoothly, except it developed some kind of abnormal condition and I am nervous that it might be the mosaic virus.
Please drop your comments below if you encountered anything like this before or if you have any tips for me on how to nurse this baby back to health! :)

Interesting. I also had the same situation with those wonky leaves on my raphi. They made me nervous so I cut the vines that had it. It hasn’t come back and the plant is thriving. Hope yours does well too.

Ohhh! Mini update: every new leaf that unfurled had the wonky leaves and they would never feel like normal leaves, so I recently cut the affected part of the stems. It’s slowly pushing out new growth points, so I’m hoping it thrives again like yours!

@@SuchPlants Thanks for the update. I am glad you cut those stems. Treating it didn’t work, nothing did. You mentioned mosaic virus and that was my first thought too, but I’m not sure. It’s a great plant so hopefully it will make it!

The plant looks nice and full. Hope you figure out what the issue is and can get it resolved!

You might have better luck with the wilting portion if you cut the top leaves into single nodes and water-root them, leaving only one or two leaves at the bottom. This will give the stem remaining in the soil less foliage to feed while forming roots.
Generally, when rooting in soil, it’s best to have only a couple of leaves remaining on each stem, as it cannot continue to feed more than that until it gains nutrition from the new roots.
An exception is if the stem is laying on the soil and all nodes are in full contact with it, allowing them to root simultaneously. Sometimes I use this process and ensure soil/node contact by securing the stem with paperclips at each junction. (Lengths of stainless steel wire are a better option, as they won’t rust and can be used again.) Once all nodes have rooted, you can sever the stem in between, encouraging the nodes to form new growth.
      Good luck! 😸✌️

@@Unpotted that's good information. I haven't cut mine yet. I was waiting for Ron's update. Now mine has dropped alot of leaves at the bottom. It's 4 and ahalf feet tall with 2 feet on the bottom without leaves.
I'm thinking of cutting the top and trying water propagation. 💧 The 2' section at the bottom, I think I'll leave 2 leaves and pin it down. I use wire hanger sections and make a u out of them.

Thinking about it yet, I could wrap the moss on the nodes and cut later!??

It looks like variegation, the leaves look too healthy to be mosaic virus .🌿🌱 Also, I read somewhere if a leaf doesn’t want to unfold properly it can be misted and it will open up fine. That whole pot looks great though!! 🌻

Thanks for the positivity! It’s def not variegation, although that would be so cool! 😆

Misting the leaf can definitely help. Issues with unfurling are generally related to low local humidity or pests. 😸✌️

Oh what is the 2 big leaved plant on the table? Has me stumped...!

That’s actually a candlenut tree that my friend brought from Hawaii! I rooted it and it’s somehow surviving inside the house haha but eventually I will give it back because I certainly do not have space for a tree 😆

@@SuchPlants oh thank you for replying! It’s very unusual, which I like. I’m growing a breadfruit tree from a seed I got from a fresh slice of breadfruit from the Indian market ( such great things to find there to grow- fresh dates, konjac tubers, taro tubers, fresh peanuts, ginger , turmeric etc etc ) I just assumed it will never get too big in a pot, only about a foot high now. Good luck with the tetra leaf problem, I hope it just heals itself. 🌿

I noticed those cool plant leaves, too. Thanks for the identification. 😸✌️
