Thank you so much for your message! Yes it was a big fun to find the chords and play them with that "Rhodes-style sound". Happy you enjoyed it! Don't hesitate to like and share :-)
Wow, dead on. Thank you. I’m gonna learn this and can by ear etc, but I’m a visual guy and you are one of those “music angels” that give me something to work with. Very accurate, thank you.
Thank you so much Elron for your kind message. Like yourself, I use my ears and my eyes to play the piano. I created this channel because I was not satisfied of scores (stupidly expensive and unable to show a correct arrangement). In the context of that song, your job as a keyboarder is to play the accompaniment. The trap to avoid is to play the melody. I don't know any score of Hey 19 which explains that. Correction. I don't know any score of Hey 19 :-)
Bravo Mathieu, Steely Dan est pour moi un des meilleurs groupe de jazz-rock même si il est méconnu aujourd'hui et tu leur as magnifiquement rendu hommage ;)
Very nicely played! Do you perhaps have an outline of the chords? I notice here that you appear to be playing A (2nd inv) E - D on the first line. Ran it through Moises and it's showing F#m - Bm instead.
Thank you for your very nice message! Sorry because when I made the video I did not think about the outline... and it was so fast... So I noticed the chords in the description, I hope it will be OK for you. About the first line: the chords have to be seen with both hands. I don't exactly play an A because my bass (left hand) is a F#. So it's a F#m7. For the same reason, the 2 following chords are: C#m7 and Bm7. I hope I'm clear with that explanation. Have a good time on my channel! 🙂
Thank you for your nice message. Sorry I don't have this system of colored keys. If my fingers go too fast, you can lower the speed in the settings of the video. I hope you will enjoy this video, see you soon on my channel!
I heard this track two weeks ago .. sent me down a rabbit hole. I ended up buying the Nord Electro 3 SW 73. I’m wondering if you have the settings you used available for viewing. Your replication was SO spot on! It’s such an ear worm I finally bit off a chunk of pristine organ / piano options w/ the Nord. Excellent playing / timing! This cover video is gold.
Thank you so much Jim! Yes I enjoyed so much to make this cover! You know I only heared the music, found the chords, and then played by ear with the good sound (described in the description). You said you wanted my settings but I don't understand which ones? Don't hesitate to clarify that. I hope you will enjoy my video, don't hesitate to like it and share it! :-)
Thank you for watching it :-) "9 -" means you take the 9th and lower it a half tone. It's almost like "7b9", but you are not obliged to play the 7th (G). In that case, it's just another way to write "7b9". Is it clear for you?
@@MathieuBaudoux yes thank you! I think that is also commonly written as Aaddb9 but I can see how that is probably also confusing to people. Thanks for the explanation
@@fiscaldisco5234 I could be wrong but I don't think it's an add chord. In this case, you don't add a key, you just diminish it. Adding a b9 would suppose you keep the normal 9th which would sound very special!! :-) :-)
Thank you for your nice message! I'm not sure about that (neither you're right, nor I am!). When I recorded this song that I played by ear, I remember it was hard for me to follow the bass line. In the original version, some of the lowest notes are not strong at all (contrary to the voice or the drums). So a mistake is not impossible! :-) Have a good time on my channel!
Thanks for your tutorial it was a big help for me. Yeah, on 4th beat of the chorus the bass player plays a riff to get back to F#m7 which seems to run over a right hand E triad, I think the bass notes in the 4th beat are g# - b - d - f# (though later he makes some variations but the harmony is and E triad I think)
There's no particular setting. The sound I give in the description is very good and it's a sound you can find in every Nord Keyboards. It plays a lot in the quality of the song. On other keyboards, I advise you to choose a "Rhodes" sound or something like that, because you need a little percussion at the beginning of the note. Last advice: be percussive on the first beat of the chord. I hope you'll enjoy to play that song. :-)
I'm really flattered by your message ! All the more as it comes from a Steely Dan's compatriot ! I will be very proud if this video can help you. Have a good time on my channel :-)
@@MathieuBaudoux Thanks so much! I pretty much have it down but am getting stuck on the part where Donald sings "where the hell am I,,,and But I'm just growing old, where it goes from B, D, G, and back to that last D, before the chorus. Having trouble landing that last D,,,I'll get it soon.
@@routinehead2481 I understand, it's very fast... Little advice : in the settings of the video, you can slower the speed. Try to do it (0,5 = /2) and it should be easier! ;-)
God, the chord changes in this song are just divine. Great job.

Of course, as you may know, the title "Hey Nineteen" refers to the number of chords used in most Steely Dan songs. *lol*
