No way! I didn't expect to see your comment on here. Huge thanks to Vulf, made me realize how great old school funk, R&B and digged me into that kind of music. Hope to see your performance in Japan someday
That was nothing short of spectacular, capturing the groove, the swing, the harmonic complexity, all the signature moments and licks, and the sly joy of this great record and a band full of virtuosos. A complete triumph of arrangement and performance!
i remembefr someone did a reaction vid to one of kens covers and came up with the crazyass idea that he developed his technique then sought out songs that fit it. smfh. absurd. he's simply a master playing tunes he likes.
Steely Dan as a band was miraculously complicated and groovy. Playing this song like this defies all explanation. I literally can't believe what I'm seeing and hearing.
This is one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen on guitar and I’ve been playing for 11 years. The complexity of the arrangement and the degree of accuracy you’re hitting those notes and percussive hits is just immaculate
Most respectable Musicians wouldn't even dare to try to do Steely Dan justice. Yet, you brought a pleasant smile to my face. I couldn't help but laugh at how good this was, I actually laughed to myself and said "this is CRAZY..."
This is where you are able to not only play but visualize/ hear and feel each instrument including volcals in your head and it just flows out of you...
Not only does this arrangement showcase Kent’s amazing guitar skills, it also lays bare the true genius of the chord changes Donald fagan wrote into this tune.
Watch out! We don’t need no keyboard player. Um, or bassist or …horns? Just maybe eight fingers and two thumbs. Attached to one guy! Amazing skills and plenty of dedication I’m certain! Endlessly entertaining! Thanks!
I have heard a famous guitarist describe the the guitar described as a whole orchestra in one instrument. That’s true, but only in the right hands. You have the right hands! Amazing playing, thanks for sharing it!
Im pretty sure there is no one out there who is better than this guy. He plays so clean and manages to sound like he is playing all the instruments in the song. Nobody in the world does it better than Kent. Insane skills
And then you have these floozies dressed in the skimpiest outfits whose finger movements on a fretboard is like a bull in a china shop getting over a million+ views. It's a travesty and so damn wrong!
This is the one guy I can't believe is this good. The arrangement alone is so accurate. On top of that, the feel and spirit of the song are spot on. What a performer. My favorite guitarist in the world.
... I have been playing for 50yrs now. This guy plays and I sit there and stare in amazement. He is like a machine. I can't figure out any of the stuff he does. It's a whole different method. I'd sure like to learn it.......... An amazing guitarist.
It's crazy how it was insane that 'Rush' created all that sound with 3 ppl but this 'Beautiful Human' alone recreated a Classic, and Staple. He Is Awesome, A Musical Revelation!!! In Awe Of Him,and His God-Given Talent... You aren't taught that, Your Born With It ... He Rocks!!!!
Staggeringly difficult and note perfect; yes... we expect that from Kent these days, but what is icing on the cake and so much more impressive is the ease with which he plays, the feel, the groove, the interpretation and the arrangement. That's why I keep hanging out for the next video.
I’ve taught guitar the college level since 1971 and have seen thousands of guitarists performing countless pieces. There are people who have skill. There are people who have talent. There are people who have the gift. You have it all. Congrats, but don’t let it get to your head.
Watching your absolute control and dominance over the 6 string is amazing and heartbreaking to everyone else that thought we could actually play the guitar. I'm going upstairs to cry for awhile.
Listening to Kent play music that was designed for a group to play is like listening to a Picasso. Kent replicates an entire band with one guitar just like Picasso plants a vivid image in your mind with a few lines. Brilliant.
I'm mindbogled how he transforms such difficult pieces of music into an arrangement that fits? And that is bass, rythm...and solo parts at the same time all in one go, two hands, ten fingers....😲 He is from a totally different level!!!!
During a live show he did for his birthday about a week ago, I asked Rick Beato to showcase Kent’s covers of Pretzel Logic and/or Does Anybody Know What Time It Is? I said Kent is a remarkable guitarist. He read my chat out loud and said he’d have to check Kent out. I hope he follows up! 💜
@@mikeblaszczak5346 He cares about musicians. Tommy Emanuel and Mike Dawes have more than 50/50 share of covers in their shows. Rick was specifically interested in how Mike Dawes approached replicating the sounds of vocal and instruments on “Jump.”
IMHO most of the stuff that goes viral gets exposure because of its virtuosity. I‘ve nothing against virtuosity, but I‘m old enough to remember a time when artists strived for developing their own unique voice and style. That - to me - is the mark of the artist: To develop your personality by making the best possible use of the instrument. I don‘t listen to people who sound like Coltrane or Brecker or Metheny. I listen to Coltrane, Brecker, and Metheny (and the list goes on). Long story short: A heartfelt thank you for giving me so much joy through your music. It‘s appreciated. And it made me pick up the guitar again and keep learning and starting all over. You‘re an inspiration.
I knew Donald's chord structures were sophisticated, but to see them executed on an acoustic is fantastic,...... and you have a great sense of rhythm to go with that percussive playing...

This is my warm up piece before I go to the Guitar Beginners Class.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a beautiful thing to see someone your age with such virtuosity
Damn, man. You just go from strength to strength, don't you? I hope Donald Fagen sees this - I think he'd be amazed and impressed.
That's the perfect One Man Band. If I close my eyes I can see them three 😎
Mr Donald Fagen is a perfectionist, a curmudgeons, and a musical genius ... and I'm sure HE would be blown away! I sincerely hope he sees this.
Agree totally, Donald would dig this bigtime
@@paulgreene6432 Sure, but he'd still have 4 or 5 other fingerstylists come in and give it a go
That was nothing short of spectacular, capturing the groove, the swing, the harmonic complexity, all the signature moments and licks, and the sly joy of this great record and a band full of virtuosos. A complete triumph of arrangement and performance!
Ditto!!!
Plus, he keeps time like an atomic clock.
Well said. Still can’t believe my ears or eyes. This led me to a rabbit hole I don’t care if I ever come out.
I can't believe what I'm seeing and hearing! Kid is unbelievable!
The win is that the genius of Steely Dan lives on in the soul of guys like this.
Again, Steely Dan is hard enough playing with all the instruments. Well done.
Well said.

Kent Nishimura simply one of the greatest solo guitarist of all time
"one of"?!?
Amazing. Clearly, no one was honest with Kent when he was learning guitar and told him this was impossible. (smile)
Mind COMPLETELY BLOWN🤯
fuck dude.. that was amazing.. I can't believe all the parts of the song you express..
Kent Nishimuraさんが日本人であることを誇りに思います
Don't worry... Talent ain't contagious.
After this one...I just can't imagine how Kent would play glamour profession from the same album!!!
When I was his age, I thought that I was pretty cool learning how to play "You Really Got Me"!
Amazing cover by an amazing talent of an amazing song by an amazing band!!!
Never seen anyone play steelydan like this👍🍻
His sense of timing is unbelievable.
great meter
It is really fortunate that Kent is here with us, while we are still alive

Apart from the physical prowess, the voicings of the chords he plays are spot on. As a guitar player, I am totally intimidated by this guy!
I'm guessing by the way Kent was REALLY grooving along with this he's a huge Steely Dan fan.
I’ve always been a fan of Kent “Skunk” Nishimura.
Most respectable Musicians wouldn't even dare to try to do Steely Dan justice. Yet, you brought a pleasant smile to my face. I couldn't help but laugh at how good this was, I actually laughed to myself and said "this is CRAZY..."
For me, Kent is the best guitarist in the world. He has a gift from God.
This is where you are able to not only play but visualize/ hear and feel each instrument including volcals in your head and it just flows out of you...
Not only does this arrangement showcase Kent’s amazing guitar skills, it also lays bare the true genius of the chord changes Donald fagan wrote into this tune.
I predict that at some point in the future Kent will become the youngest member of the select group of Certified Guitar Players. What a talent!

Look it up kids... it's called staying in the pocket and Kent is the master. Incredible!

I have to agree. There are a lot of phenomenal guitarists out there, but this guy is in a league of his own.
I just got turned on to Mr Nishimura and NOW I'm a FAN FOR LIFE!!! DUDE IS BAD ASS!!!! Peace & Gratitude to him!!!

Forget prodigy. Kent is a GENIUS! Somewhere up there, Joe Pass is smiling. Also, he maintains a fantastic groove throughout this!
Kent is the John Wick of guitarist...he is just killing it!
I hope this young man has a very lucrative career. He desrves it with talent like this and the work it took to get where he is.
I'm picking my jaw up the floor after I'm done dancing to this arrangement.
The return of the king, finally.
This guitarist is so underrated! You deserve million subs Kent!
Yep
you're mad. he is not as popular as he should be, but I have never heard anyone who has seen him say he is underrated.
Yass!!
And then you have these floozies dressed in the skimpiest outfits whose finger movements on a fretboard is like a bull in a china shop getting over a million+ views. It's a travesty and so damn wrong!
After reading MANY comments to his videos I'd say he is not underrated at ALL.
Kent this is the most impressive arrangement I have ever heard. I hope Donald Fagen sees/hears this! 😵💫🤯❤
I’ll be right back, I’m burning my guitar in the back yard
I'll drive the car over my guitar.
Lol
Feed off of him. Let him inspire you!

Just shaken my head with a smile . Thank You so so much
Kent's success isn't based just on technique, but also on his remarkable sensitivity to good music from many genres.
Wow, I love the way you got all the subtleties in there. Skate a little lower now. Nice.
Kent is the best in the world. No one else can touch him.
I feel like I’m back in kindergarten with the excitement of hearing and seeing something new for the first time. Wow amazing bro.
Go KENT!!! love your playing! TE cgp.
It is extremely honored to receive another comment from the undisputed guitar legend that you are.
Your kind comment about this cover song with Kent's original arrangement cheer him up in his music career so much.
Holy crap- please get Kent to NYC Town Hall this year. Btw, I was introduced to Andy Mckee's music when he opened for you last year.
OK, I would argue that this kid is pretty damn cool. Now don’t let it go to your head OK?
Wow. TE. I'll see you at 'Blues on Broadbeach' this Friday... Can't wait.👍

Who knew there was a full band inside a guitar? Well obviously...Kent Nishimura. This is especially outstanding.
It always trips me out hearing that many parts come out of one guitar and two hands at the same time. Bass, percussion, rhythm, and melody lines. 🤯

For real bro!!!!?
I've never seen anyone hit Steely Dan "Hey 19" on an Acoustic like that before in my entire 58yrs of living. Bravo!!!
Finally!! A new song for me to listen to 100 times over

Brilliant how he works in the arrangements of the songs as well as the melodies, all with perfect intonation and phrasing. Phenomenal playing.

He's not from arrogant America, his roots are humble. I smell jealously. No need to throw shade.
He's so in-the-pocket that metronomes times themselves to him.

Yeah Kent! Super.
Entire band in one guitar (player). Spectacular!
My mind is totally blown… Totally!

Look out Tommy Immanuel! This guy is unbelievable. What a natural groove. LOVED this!
This is shockingly good. In the literal sense of those words.
This Dude is truly like nothing I've ever heard before!
Genius is the only word needed to describe Nishimura-san!
Deceptively complex tune with yet another masterful arrangement. bravo Kent
Can't believe this is just one instrument. He makes it look so easy.
Absolutely jaw dropping ,even the little fills and ad libs in the outro .One of the best acoustic players /arrangers ever.
💯
Not just a great player, but also a great arranger. 🙂
This young man is an absolute monster. All his videos are incredible! Be sure to watch as many ad you can.
It's been a while Kent Sama,but we'll worth the wait 😊.
I'm glad and happy you had a fantastic time.
Awesome please do more Steely Dan! Would love to see an arrangement of Peg or Rikki Don’t Lose That Number
It’s just so damn good.
Clean, full, in time - there’s nobody on earth that can touch this dude on an acoustic.
On a par with Alexander Misko... if you haven't heard/seen him, check out his cover for Toto's Africa.
Check out Naudo. He's an unbelievable great guitarist.
Tommy Emmanuel is worth a look.

Wow. Just wow.
Another fantastic version of Steely Dan. The nuances you capture from the original recordings are amazing!
It's true!! Fantastic!!!👏👏👏👏👏

Totally nails it. So many layers for one instrument. And the groove 😮
SteelyDan would be so proud, best version I have ever heard.
