- Acoustic guitar prodigy Kent Nishimura is at it again covering Chicago's famous "25 Or 6 To 4". On acoustic guitar. ACOUSTIC. We've been impressed with him before, but covering this song on a single acoustic guitar sounds... difficult. Does he pull it off?

His real genius is that somehow he inately 'knows' what notes he can leave out and rely on his audience's musical memory to fill in the gaps.
Exactly. Not everybody notices but yeah.
what blows me away is the relaxed/effortless feel in his playing... all while playing this amazingly complex/difficult stuff...
@@alanh7247 ruclips.net/video/EGGYdBZTa80/видео.html. 🎸 😊
Absolutely! He always gets the “shape” of the song exactly right.
Spoken like a true non musician .. anyone who plays music would understand that’s not really correct .. you can always omit the 5th from any chord even in a band setting . What you probably mean is he captures the lead predominant melody line while encompassing a relentless percussive sound with perfectly metronomesque timed snare hits , constant walking bass line and perfectly in the pocket fills all while employing techniques, particularly guitar right hand techniques between the percussive effect with all digits. that have taken years to master that most accomplished guitarists and musicians would never even approach being able to perform let alone in a live setting f
Finger style guitar can be dumbed down as much as the players ability level will allow and even a lower level intermediate player can attain a good sounding song if their rhythm is accurate and they play in the pocket
I've been playing for 50+ years. I'm no slouch, and I have a collection of guitars big enough to choke a horse. After listening to this I'm this close to tossing all of my instruments into the fireplace and taking up the Pan flute. Nobody has the right to be this incredible. Listening to Kent play...Shiawase!
I'm pretty sure you could choke a horse with one guitar. Lmao! I've only been playing for 30 year now... and Kent makes me want to go back to taking lessons.
I know exactly how you feel
Lmao
Well said.
Took the words right out of my mouth, all except the pan flute. That was just hilarious.
Kent Nishimura is one of the most gifted players of our time. His arrangments are brilliant and he plays them note perfect. Incredible
I've been trying to learn his stuff recently and it's insanely difficult to put that kind of rhythm in your right hand. I don't break a sweat with some of the hardest classical pieces and still his arrangements are something else. I actually burst out laughing at that first solo part every time I listen. It's so mindbendingly ridiculous.
A whole other level!
If you get a chance please watch his rendition of “Fantasy” by Earth Wind n Fire!!!! Really is right up there with this one!
Kent was my pandemic silver-lining. Every day I see a new video of the kid’s come across my feed I know it’s going to be a great day.
Kent doesn't just do "cover" arrangements. He captures every essential nuance so that every contribution to our original introduction to a song is refreshed.
It’s absolutely amazing what this YOUNG
musician can do with this guitar, it’s as if an entire band is accompanying him !!!!
Absolutely brilliant. Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears were 2 of my favorites!!!!
I’m so thankful for finding this reaction video because it validates my exact thoughts and feelings every time I’ve seen this cover by Kent. People make cover songs all the time, some better than others. It’s always an added bonus when they incorporate the other instruments sounds as well (the bass, drumline, etc, all on the guitar). The difference is however, more often than not they are recorded at separate times. It’s nearly impossible to play the sounds of all the instruments simultaneously on your one guitar. So they record them separately and mash the videos together at the end. Makes sense for most people. Not Kent. Not this master of the guitar.
Every single sound you hear coming from his cover video, is exactly what your seeing on his one guitar. And he does it all simultaneously and somehow keeps the rhythm perfectly throughout all of it. I simply don’t know how he does this, and I am just as blown away seeing it now as I am every single time I watch it.
Thank you for this channel for doing this. It’s a perfect choice.
c'mon, a human only has FIVE fingers to defining the notes of a song - this dude plays the bass, and drum, with the rhythm (and the triplet grace notes of the horns, in between the vocal runs), all while carrying the multiple voices of the melody of a truly complex song, from a 7-man band... USING FIVE FINGERS, AND THE PALM AND THUMB OF HIS OTHER HAND... REALLY???!!!
(if you watch his fingers, you are genuinely changed to see where the sounds are coming from - at 4:17, he plays the guitar solo run PRECISELY, will playing the digression of the bass-line that carries it, and if you can actually SEE the fingering, you can't believe that the full sound is coming from the THREE fingers that he's actually using... WHO DOES THAT???!!!!)
He is so uniquely talented. Amazing. This song in particular shows off his percussion skills.
Chet Atkins ,Tommy E. and Kent Nishimura in another level of guitar playing, this boy is in different level not only in Japan,In the world.
Kent is literally one of the best musicians I've ever heard of and he's just getting started. I'm a big music fan and nearly every one of his covers is world-class and a master class in guitar arrangement and playing! The world should know about this young man's extraordinarily talent.
Kent is not human. I am thoroughly convinced and this just confirms it. How?? .. He just blows my mind.
His brain is not wired like a normal mortal.
This is a level of genius seen in other art forms: math, dance, science, surgery, etc.
A talent rarely bestowed by the Universe and I am grateful we live in a world that so many people can experience the results.
Amazing!
Couldn't have said it better myself. I only just discovered Kent, and my world will never be the same.
I have followed a few very accomplished finger style guitar players in RUclips such as Josephine Alexandra and Gabriela Quevedo. However, once I heard Kent Nishimura I realized right away that he is in a different (superior) level than the other RUclipsrs. He is quite a genius.
As usual….unbelievable! Bravo Kent, bravo!
I agree…OMG!!!! That he is able to do all the parts of the song himself on his guitar is incredible!!! Thanks for introduction to this talent!
Blows my mind!
you are absolutely right - what the boy conjures up is actually incredible. Rarely heard such a good and at the same time perfect guitarist.
The first time I heard Kent Nishimura, I just launched the video and switch to another window of my computer session. When I was listening, I thought there were more than one musician or Kent had mixed several tracks. So I switched back to RUclips window and... "Wow ! He's alone ! How does he do that ? !!"
Now I'm fan of one of the best guitarist in the world, near Tommy Emmanuel and other great acoustic guitarists.
Pretty amazing. Shen I first heard what sounded like the horns I didn’t realize it was him playing it. Very nice
The most underrated acoustic fingerstyle player
Most underviewed. Everyone who is lucky enough to have stumbled across him comes to the same conclusion: GOAT
This hard at the boarder of not believe there is not playing a bass in the background.
I am also a guitar player and I have watched this video many many times in the past two months because that look on your face when Kent’s 25 or 6 to 4 video ends is the same look I’ve had on my face for the three years I’ve been following Kent. Your look says it all but you follow that with spot on commentary. Great honest reactions and great job. Peace
Thank you!
See him do Earth Wind & Fire's 'Fantasy' 😄
Hi please react to Kent Nishimura covering Fields Of Gold (Sting) and Africa (Toto)
This is undoubtly the best guitar cover for the song
Also there is awesome guitar player named Yumiki Erino. Please check it out. She is amazingly awesome
This dude is one of the best arrangers around
He's a King of Fingerstyle player.. More way better than others... Listen to his playing like u hear 1 full band... He's literally at another level...
Easily one of the best guitarists on the planet but he is using a looper in some parts.
Yea. He should use this video as his audition tape to see if he can get into the berkeley school of music. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kent: id like to go to your school.
Berkeley: ok, send us an audition tape. Its very difficult to get into our school.
Kent: ok, will this work?
Berkeley: 😳 youre hired.
Kent's Pink Floyd covers are just as impressive! He is incredible.
He is exactly the best at what he does. 100% all in. Thank you presenter, Thank you Kent. Thank you all. d
Just Phenomenal!!!! Ed, I have to suggest Gabriella Quevedo "Sultans of Swing" She's finger style and always gives a couple smiles as she plays. I love the Acoustic guitar sets! Peace Out!!!
I've been listening to fingerstyle guitarists for almost 20 years now. Kent is my absolute favorite. I actually like him more than Tommy E. and Joe Robinson, who are my other top favorites.
Try listen alip ba ta u will amaze bro
And he's so young. Kid's going places.
Thank you for mentioning the great Tommy Emmanuel!! 👍☺️ I know you are an intelligent person 😎
@@ninahappymix7531
Kent is on another level. He is one man band who is able to play lead rythm, bass, percussion and drum at the same time. These no one can do, expect Tommy Emmanuele.
Been following Kent for a few years now, and he is a brilliant musician. Some real masterpices on his chanel for sure! I just love his take on "Comfortably numb" and "purple rain" i must have played those two thousands of times ;)
I've loved Kent's YT videos for years now. This performance, I feel the same way as your reaction - disbelief at what I'm observing and hearing on acoustic guitar.
Indeed 🤘
it's possible with use of looping device, Kent is one of the best!
I just watched your reaction to Kents version of Chicargo 25 or 6 to 4
I said the same as you to my mate he plays t e whole arrangement in one take on guitar in real time and I said I have no words because no words could ever do him justice
He makes it look effortless the word genius is over used these days but Kent is a true genius his style of playing is again there are no words
I love watching and listening the only thing that I disagree with you is that I'm giving up trying to play guitar.
Have you heard his version of Time he gets the intro spot on using the harmonics
Love his work
This kid has definitely got "Van Halen Syndrome".
What I mean is that he combines originality and virtuosity with such effortless ease that it's mind-blowing.
I love how you describe this. I agree with it all. And I wish more people would understand true skill (like the whole package of skills) as well as you and others who admire Kent's playing.
But instead the masses like guitarists like Marcin. I hate that Marcin more popular than Kent and even legends like Tommy Emmanuel
This young man is a musical genius. He absolutely makes it look easy. I would be interested to know if took lessons and music theory.
i think he's in his 50s
@@StephenRoberts99he’s like 21😭
Got my first guitar around 1966, saw so many lead guitarists do fast riffs. . . Not a one did their own drum track while doing the lead. . .If Kent were born in 1951 . . . no one would be talking about Alvin Lee, Clapton or Page. . . Well . .Maybe.
Anyone who follows Kent, or has watched several of his videos knows he is spot on with his interpretation or playing of any song, he is truly amazing.
I've seen Chicago a few years ago, they were epic! Please join Mr. Nishimura's channel and enjoy ALL his vids!
How differently is this man's brain wired, such that he can keep track of all the layers to this song, and not miss a thing?
Don’t forget… In addition to playing all those different parts simultaneously, you can also set the atomic clock to his perfect tempo
I love Kent's playing and the crazy thing is I wouldn't listen to most of the songs he plays because they are not to my taste but I could listen to Kent play them all day long. There is something magical about his playing!
A troubadour/warrior/monk/genius + my fav song from childhood. Thats a double triple... no one can touch KN in the world of music, today. He only gets better with the passing of time. I am growing the nails on my right hand only as an homagĕ...🎟🥇
...................... He is a once in a lifetime talent ....................................... Amazing. I read comments of folks saying if you watch him carefully, you too can play like him. Sure....... Well,........................ I've been watching. No way I'll ever come close to this magic. Just an amazing talent. We are the lucky listeners.........................
His genius in music... His in different level💯💯💯
He is just like an octopus playing in the garden in a shade. One and only.
My guitar won’t let me near it after it watched Kent.
Practice 🤮
It's amazing how he manages to render every essencial element, and make the song sounds in its original intent ...
You have to see him play in case you think there's more than one player, and also the skill would not be appreciated at all. He does songs we know. I could hear Cetera singing.
That's God tier talent. Rare
Hi there @unhingedreactions,
If you go back to Kent's video of this song now you'll be very pleased to see a comment by Danny Seraphim the founding member and drummer of Chicago.
Awesome!
@@UnhingedReactions Danny Seraphine comments as "Wow….beautifully done Kent. I know Terry is smiling up in heavens! Peace Danny".
He invented the guitar to allows it to sing..
Most amazing music on RUclips. Discovered Kent during the Pandemic lockdown in 2020 and I'm Forever addicted 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
I know what you mean. (3:29) I have a friend who plays like that. If you walk past his house It always sounds like at least 3 people playing and when you go in its only him. The playlist is named after him. The Jerry Jones guitar show. m.ruclips.net/p/PLXhvROSQCiVdXxIYPma9fHi0JNosQsSTx
I know, right???!!! Even Danny Seraphine gave him praise! Beyond description, really!
He did play every part. Amazing.
A great tune anyway. But he added to it. An incredible talent.
my fav kent cover is comfortably numb
I've been listening to Kent's acoustics for awhile, he covers all parts of this song, which is simply amazing! Take a listen to Sergey Kashirin (ex-Leonid & Friends) who is my fav electric lead guitarist I've ever seen . His version of 25 or 6 to 4 is stunningly fast & accurate.
We know him well. Thanks for watching.🤘
No offense but you have a genius kid shown in 1/10 of the screen while an old man covering 1/3 of the screen bobs his head. Who needs it? It's like watching figure skating while the announcers are commenting. It adds nothing to the experience (detracts actually).
This is a reaction channel. That's what this is.
I used to say i play the guitar but now i realize ive just been mucking around
try to react kent nishimura's thriller (mj) guitar cover
Kķķkkk AWESOME. Go Clark Kent...😁😁😁
Wow, are you kidding me? How is that even possible? That is insane.
Kent just released "Does anyone really know what time it is" excellent .. !
That's not even Kent's best Chicago song. hahaha Kent has evolved guitar playing and set a new bar of what can be achieved.
What about Sunga Jung the most famous fingerstyle guitarist in Korea i suggest to see him😏
Great channel! If you're a serious music lover and a lover of guitar music, this is one of the performances that brings tears in your eyes.
Love him and I tend to like the faster songs with a beat, it really show cases what he can do with that guitar 👍👍
Thousand miles better than Sungha Jung.
One of my favorite song from George Benson, the style of guitar Kent is doing is just as how GB sings it . Kent is really one of the best in plucking those notes from the song.. Really goooood !
M
I am Speechless!
U said it ! UNREAL , AMAZING 😘
It’s always good watching a genius at work.
This along with Pretzel Logic are some of his best work that I’ve seen.
He is a real genius
Trully.
Glad to see you appreciate that young man. He blew me away when I found him.
This is a well played version. Thanks for bringing it up.
Terry Kath must be smiling from heaven listening to this
Kent is amazing. A great arrangement playing is beyond what most fingerstyle guitarist can produce. I'd love to get a copy of the transcription and work on it for about a year before I could play that arrangement. cheers
You should see the EWF Fantasy video he just put out the other day...
What planet is he visiting from?
JAPAN 🇯🇵. LOL.
Overwhelming. As you said insane version. Ty for presenting.
Brilliant. perfect .what can i say?
This dude is a real monster, I mean, what he is able to cover on a single, six string acoustic guitar always leaves me incredibly breathless. And as much as I love music, my disability, which includes a lack of adequate fine motor skills, has always prevented me from even being a casual player. It's like the old cliche goes, "Those who can't teach, teach gym. Well, me, I get my audio rocks off listening to virtuoso finger pluckers like Kent N.. So thanks for posting this one.
He is amazing!
Hello dear friend greating from Macau china
Thank you for vgrea vmusic
So in reaction to your reaction: I know right ?!?!?
the irrepressible laugh of satisfaction at the end
He really didn't miss one damn thing
My guitar is still waiting to be played like that.
Amazing. Yes! Have you EVER seen Gabriella Quevedo. She will also blow your mind. I get your comment about players like this who are inspiring. I'm a mando player and every time I watch Sierra Hull or her husband Justine Moses play, I have to pull my mandolin down off the wall and play one of her tunes. Music. It's contageous!
Keep rockin, bro. And check out Gabriella.
Thanks for the suggestion!
He is unique! Good Vibes From 🇧🇷😉💚💛
Kent deserves so much more recognition, just so out of this world 🌎
Doug was that your hand🤟🏻?
Hahaha!
Genius
Seen this a bunch of times. Still mind blown!!
He plays literally every part simultaneously. I can’t wrap my head around the levels of multitasking and dexterity that takes.
You said it. It makes my ADHD go bananas!🤘
...and the control of dynamics to bring out the right sounds at the right time.
I mean, it took a great 7-piece band and a recording studio to do it for the record.
