Galadriel is the embodiment of wisdom, dignity, grace, poise, and feminine power. Rings of Power was like "but what if we made our version the exact opposite of all those things?" This is not in any way the same character from the books. It's sheer slander against Tolkien's Galadriel.

It's not just a fortified stone fort, it's also in an incredibly advantagous position. There's only one path leading up to it and that path goes winding up a steep hill that's overseen in it's entirety by the fortress and the enrance to the fortress is across a single narrow bridge. They had archers in the village defense battle. Had they put these archers on the fortress they would have been entirely unassailable until the fortress has actually been breached and have perfect cover while the orcs would be devoid of any cover. Hell even if the archers missed their intended target, with how the path is laid out it's not unlikely they'd still hit an orc somewhere further down the path. And again, with how the path is laid out any orc falling down would likely take several more orcs down with him. It's an incredibly strong defensive position.
Or to be fair, it would be an incredibly strong defensive position if that tower weren't constructed in the most shoddy way possible so that it just barely is held together by a single rope.

People also make devils bargains because they're greedy, but if the writers wrote that, they might accidentally introspect for a moment and realize how empty they are. At which point, I assume, they would implode like the witch king.

Here is an example of how far elves can see. Feanor and his followers stole the Teleri ships to sail to middle earth. They were originally going to send them back for Fingolfin and his followers to sail over, but Feanor didn't trust his half-brother, so he ordered the ships to be burned. Back in Valinor, Fingolfin could see a red glow on the horizon, and he knew he had been betrayed. He was able to see a glow from across an ocean the width of the Atlantic!

The beauty of lotr is how it combines simple concepts of “good vs evil” within such a complex universe.
Men desiring the rings for “power” doesn’t need some bizarre ulterior motive because it falls in line with the entire theme of the novels being that the ring (power) could corrupt anyone into becoming like Sauron. I’d argue that the true “tension” of the lotr story lies within the constant dread that the ring’s influence is too great for anyone to resist.
While Tolkein created an extremely complex world full of lore and history, the themes were always based upon simple, classical myths of good vs. evil.
The RoP, on the other hand, completely flipped this- making it so the characters and world are extremely simplistic, while the plot is an absolute convoluted mess. It’s fine if they want to do their own thing, but you still have to keep within at least the same general themes of the source material. Why even make it set in the lotr universe if you’re not going to do that?

17:27 this right here is a fantastic point, that’s what make Tolkien Tolkien, and not Game of Thrones. You can’t do this to Tolkien. Black or white good or evil. You try to add grey into middle earth it doesn’t work especially with horrendous story telling that borders on incomprehensible. Your already shell shocked at how bad the story is that inconsistent character building puts you in a coma

    • @WolfGr33d
      @WolfGr33d Год назад +7

There actually are shades of gray here and there in Tolkiens work, but how these creators treat that grayness is staunchly opposite.
Gollum and Frodo for example are not wholly black and white. Gollum is mostly vile, but has the capacity to choose good. Which is why Gandalf lectures Frodo on not being too quick to deal out death to him. And Frodo, although being mostly good, succumbs to the ring at the very end.
The difference is, Tolkien treats these moral gray shortcomings for what they are; ugly and regrettable.
Moral grayness in Tolkiens world is nothing more than a regrettable and pitiful truth of this world. The Rings of Power writers, however, treat moral grayness as a means to create a pallette of diverse characters and thus believe moral grayness should be glorified and celebrated.

    • @k45207

@@WolfGr33d very well put. I do agree black and white maybe the wrong word choice. But all the characters go about the situations in middle earth are either honorable and have integrity or not. The issue with the show Is the inconsistency in the characters, character no pun intended. lol you watch the show and you get like whiplash from people doing so many things out of character for no reason what so ever. You don’t see that in Tolkien

    • @nothingEvil101
      @nothingEvil101 Год назад +5

@@WolfGr33d being corrupted or tempted by the One Ring is not the same as being a morally grey character though. In fact it is made very clear that EVERY being in middle earth (with the exception of Tom Bombadil perhaps) would sooner or later succumb to the will of the Ring, no matter their own intentions. It is the Ring which is clearly evil and has great power that has that effect, not a question of morality. If anything, Bilbo, Frodo and even Sméagol have a remarkably strong ability to withstand the Ring compared to others.

With all the intel she had, Galadriel’s best shot was to take the ride home, alert her own kin and crush the orcs in the southlands. Same with Arrondir (it’s only a quick ride isn’t it?).
The tree of Numenor loosing leaves (again a plot point stolen from the original trilogy) makes no sense. There was no moral failure on Miriel’s part (as opposed to Denethor) and she even acted with a surprising level of magnanimity towards Galadriel’s reckless and vindictive behaviour. Also Numenor will end up destroyed even if they did in fact heed the warning and succeed in raiding the orc. Their failure with mount doom cannot be attributed to their deeds because it’s something they had 0 information about. They did the best they could do with what little they knew.
What’s the implication of the omen from the Valar then? Are the Valar mistaken? Are they shortsighted? Do they want Numenor to fall?
In the end, none of these questions matter because it’s not canon and we already know the real answers. The point is, they should’ve stick to the good story Tolkien wrote instead of creating this incoherent fan fiction instead.

That Numenorians hating elves out of nothing is bizarre. Yes, Sauron convinces the numenorians to hate the elves and invade the immortal lands, which brings the downfall of their civilization, HOWEVER, the royal bloodline of Numenor HAS elven blood. Elros, brother of Elrond was the first king of Numenor and distant relative to Aragorn. Sauron plot to destroy Numenor was so much different in the Silmarilion. One thing, the orcs couldn't walk under sunlight in the books and the origianl trilogy, Saruman creates a new breed so they could walk during the day. BUT as in the shitty Hobbit Trilogy, the producers completely forget that fact and the orcs can roam around at will (making the whole trench plotline utterly pointless). Last but not least, the showrruners didn't write Galladriel, they wrote female Feanor into the show, blood hell!

Its a sad reality that We called this in Exsurge Tolkien, since 25 March, now its a full apostasy of power, The evidence is clear, and none can deny that "ROP" is not of Tolkien. Our EXSURGE TOLKIEN that makes robustly clear the heresy of the showrunner's mouths and hearts. They probably know nothing of Tolkien's masterpiece, as evident from their interview in the Vanity Fair Article. For "they who proclaim to loveth Tolkien, yet understandeth, not his world view can neither hope to create a new film, show, or series of his secondary world." "Auta i lóme!" and" Aurë entuluva!"

The elves come across as leprechauns. I can't help but remember the overwhelming praise Peter Jackson's LOTR garnered because it so faithfully depicted the books. In particular, there was a lot said at the time about his casting-director's ability to find so many extras who looked like Tolkien's elves. I don't begrudged the attempt to bring some diversity to the tales of The Second Age, just the inadequate attempt. The Stranger should have been one of The Blue Wizards, he could have easily been a POC, both of them, and then made central to the plot as they gathered information across the land, interacting with all the different peoples. Instead of the elf being non-canonically black, the village healer could have been black. It's also insulting to have a High King of the elves who's not able to articulate his own speeches, but needs to have Galadriel's sidekick, Elrond, write words for him. And I have to mention the spindly armed high elven smith, who looks like he couldn't lift a five-pound hammer
Galadriel shows that the writers were unable to create a woman character of great intelligence, insight, discipline, and power. So they settled on a subpar action figure. And how she'll transform from that into the central figure of The White Council we know in The Third Age, is obviously beyond their creative abilities.
Unlike most of those who criticized the first-season, I actually enjoyed the majority of the Harfoots' subplot. But when the series culminates in the triad of the strong woman leaders, with every male character reduced to subordinates, villains, cowards, and incompetents, I had to finally admit that this particular collection of "studio creatives" simply weren't able to save the disaster they created out of Tolkien's legacy. Hopefully it will be like Game of Thrones, but in reverse.

We all know it's no longer possible to be "canonical" they already shit that bed on that one but if they make it into a parody there may be some redeeming value here. What's nice is if they don't even have to change their writing style at all. They can pull an all-nighter in the same boiler room they wrote season 1 and pump out all of their shitty ideas that they think are clever and nuanced for season 2. Yes, it will be embarrasing for Amazon to be responsible for making a billion dollar parody but it can't be any more embarrasing then the slop they put to film in S1.
Dear Amazon - We promise to pretend you were trying to make the LOTR version of Spaceballs.

Ya know I'm just staring at that river and thinking how about you just yeet that sword into the river. If you can't be bothered to escape because REASONS (I'm ignoring the fact that zero reasons exist) than at least hide the thing in a place no-one can reach as you really don't want them to get. They'll find it on you when they eventually arrive and victory is heavily in their favour as they can easily starve you out seeing as how the food shortage isn't even close to being fixed. Hell if elf man doesn't want to go you can literally send a few villagers to do it. 5 or so villagers are not going to make a difference in a battle especially after half your troops abandoned you.
Like there are several reasons why Helms Deep works both narratively and in world logic wise. One of those is that they're abandoning a wooden fortress for a stone one. It also works because they know they can't outrun an enemy army with women, children, old people etc especially when they have cavalry units like the wargs and Orcs aren't vampires in the trilogy so it's not they can sleep during the day when the enemy can't move. Helms deep was a rational decision that might have won them the day by itself if the walls weren't exploded. It also bought them a hell of a lot of time. (Spoilers) The fact they end up abandoned this stone tower with a chokepoint and go to a village REALLY REALLY pissed me off. It's such bad rational and logic that I want to slowly force the writers of ROP to read Isekai's as even the most average of them have more world building, character development, plot etc in a few chapters than they did in 8 hours of content. God dam Overlord, Re:Zero, Mushuko Tensei put this several hundred million project to shame.

There is only one conceivable explanation for why the supposedly "good" characters in RoP are such a bunch of vicious, callous, self-serving, duplicitous dirtbags. The writers MUST be sociopaths. They literally have no idea that these traits are commonly considered "bad." As near as I can tell,, for these writers "good" characters are simply the attractive ones and "evil" characters are unattractive. They could not have found worse people to give Tolkien's world to.

I couldn't stand more than 2 episodes because of that. Worst character in anything, ever? Gets my vote. Even now when I see a still of her or even just the actress, I get annoyed as hell for at least an hour and have to go cool off.

A lot of people these days really do not understand what a good 'independent and strong' character should be. So much film and TV is clearly just pushing the message "Women can do anything, as they're fantastic.". As if some vague and ultimately meaningless feel-good platitude is of any actual value in the real world.
Then they make programmes like Vikings to try and rewrite history to push the same message. As if somehow pretending that historical sexism against women wasn't universal somehow helps any kind of cause for equality. Lord of the Rings may be fantasy, but it's still based in traditional European culture (bad and good).
Most people spectacularly fail to understand what fantasy is. They think it's all magic and elves so you can do anything you want, which is absolutely not the case. It is nearly always - and certainly with Tolkien's work - set in a realistic myhtologised version of reality, sometimes with sprinkings of supernatural elements.

I continue my quest to collect the best of the "I Loved The Part Where..." Memes.
If you have any additions, know that your contribution may be added to the unfolding saga.
I loved the part where Galadriel Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way Targaryen (GEDDRWT) faced off against the german-orcs, "We have the mightiest armies in all of middle earth! What do you have that could defeat us?" Incelron just cracked his neck and said, "Magic, Mutherf*cker." Then Frodo said, "Crap. we're gonna need a bigger ring." so Gandalf told the Ents "run forrest run!" Then Don Lemonlas said, "We Haz RANGS!" while wearing T-shirt that read, "Ask Me About My Translucent Agenda." Then all the N*zis got blown up when the Gay Engola dropped two nukes: Body-Positive Man and Little Transboy.
All Game of Thrones scholars agree that the scene where Rhaenyra whispers in Celeborn's ear “I hate pee on the toilet seat when I go to use it.” and then disconnects the machine that keeps him alive, perfectly delivered George JRR Martin's message of hope and healing for all wahmankind. Then Galadriel jumped into the ocean with Dory and started singing, "Just keep swimming."
I have to admit, I did not like the part where the authot race swapped the ents. Ents are clearly White Birch, but those ents were OAK. Remember, Arboreal Pollen is Tree ejaculation, so the Ent orgy counts as interracial and should have the appropriate tags. Although they redeemed themselves when Scott Bakula quantum leaped into T(reebeard)'Challa. I was taken off guard when GEDDRWT and Rey Palpatine arrived in Wakanda to fookin scissor, and a white man said "we don't do that in here" and Rey replied, "are you Shuri about that?"
My favorate part would have to be when Gandalf said, "Did you ever hear the tragedy of Morgoth? I thought not. It's not a story the Valar would tell you. It's a Maiar legend. Melkor was a Dark Lord, so powerful and so wise he could use the Silmarils to influence the Great Music to create life... He had such a knowledge of the unseen world that he could even keep the ones he cared about from losing their Facebook accounts if they posted the N-word. The dark side of the unseen world is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice became the Dark Lord Incelron. Ironic, he could save others from living in their parent's basement, but not himself."
I loved the ending where Ursula said “Ahh, so you think darkness is your ally? But you merely adopted the dark; I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already an octopus, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!” Then She-Hulk said, "You either die a Hero or live long enough to see yourself become the Crustacean." And then Halbrand said, "YEW TUKE ARR JERBS!" and Kicked a Harfoot into a well while shouting, "THIS. IS. NUMENOR." But Then Ursula Replied, "I am INEVITABLE!!!" only for Ariel to impale her with the boat while saying, "And I am all the Jedi! ... On a Boat."
As Ursula died she croaked, "The Sea... Is always... Right..."
Then perked up, "And the sea shops exclusively at Amazon. Use The 'IAmAllTheJedi' code to get a ten percent discount on all your Amazon purchased items for one order." THEN she finally died.
    I laughed, I cried, I kissed 18 bucks goodbye.
10/10 Would edge to it again.
    Much Stunning. Much Bravery.
