All but stock are too loud for me. Bass notes carry through the woods much more so than a higher pitched note. Would really like to see the same test done with 2-stroke 300's and 250's. Thanks for doing this.

For quiet that FmF Q4 would be awesome. But man that Graves sounds pretty good. Myself I like a quiet bike. I wish FMF made the Q stealth for the tpi bikes. I’d definitely be running it over the Powercore 2.1 if they did.

I think the 4.1 definitely sounds the best...what did you say!

Fairly negligible differences it appears. Loud is not good especially on long rides. The droning of the exhaust note gets old and lends to extra fatigue.

Sorry, Jeff, but without the tachometer, it's kind of pointless to use the sound meter. The idle dB is the only valid data in this test.
Still, you conclude that the stock unit is best and I would agree with that.

BTW, my buddy and I do all the sound tests at my club's events. I've done roughly 5000 tests. The really good news is that basically no one fails the sound level test any more. As a whole, guys don't show up with loud bikes. Unfortunately, we have to turn away about two riders each event because they don't have spark arrestors. (SA is required at all of the sanctioned trail events in my area.)

I agree that the "science" of seeing the sound meter is negated by not having the tach to put them all on equal footing - I was actually surprised that Jeff DIDN'T have a tach.. I CAN hear the offensiveness of the Graves without the insert. I also wish these were ALL tested with S/A's as that's the "trail riding requirement" and it seems like it would quiet those down not having them. I realize that closed courses don't deal with that ... but again, I really appreciate aiming this at us "trail riders". Sound IS a big deal even though bikes HAVE gotten quieter. Loud 4 stroke sound waves travel pretty far ...

Marcus, I explained in the video that a tach is needed for an accurate test. The point of the video is to let viewers hear the different mufflers.

Byron: My objective was not a scientific test. I have better things to do, like riding. I gave enough information to help guys make a purchase decision. They ALL have spark arrestors installed in the video. I've always advocated against loud bikes. I hate loud exhaust. That's why I use the stock muffler which is the quietest.

Thanks for doing testing at events. That is a thankless job that needs done.

Seems like they're all around the same loudness except for the 4.1 without the cap.

Most euro bikes are imported without spark arrestors. Apparently, a spark arrestor reclassifies the bike to a more a more stringent government specification, so they are omitted or some such nonsense. So, how about some comment whether the four aftermarket silencers come with spark arrestors.

The mufflers in the test all have SAs installed in the video and KTM EXCF/XCF-W and HQV FE models have spark arrestors in the O.E.M muffler.

Jeff, totally random question from the video, but what would you recommend for tires on a new ktm exc500. These stock tires aren't too great offroad where I was riding my te300. Just need something that's better offroad and decent on street to my riding areas. I totally understand it's not a hard enduro bike 🤣

I just got a 22’ GasGas EX350. After riding a 300 xc-w for the last decade, this 350 noise is annoying AF! After an hour I just wanted to stop riding. Very uncomfortable. Will be wearing ear plugs from now on.
