Three hours ago,i was wearing suspenders (I'm in Chicago) on a pair of beige cords. I'gave up on belts maybe 25 years ago because I kept having to pull my pants back up to my waist. That's not a problem with braces.
I’m 56 and just started wearing suspenders this year. I found a great looking brown leather set, and I love the way they hold my pants up and I love how they look.
I do wear braces with my tailored suits because they are far more comfortable than belts and avoid the inelegant ritual of continually hitching up one’s trousers. However, they do make me feel very self conscious, and I don’t want to appear like Gordon Gekko in ‘Wall Street’. For that reason I only wear them with a waistcoat which allows me to ignore your advice of matching the leather ends to my shoes as nobody sees them anyway.
I am a huge fan of braces/suspenders...I enjoy both button on and clip ons....the suit that i will be wearing in church tomorrow yes I will have on a pair..peace
I've always worn braces, the ones with clips as a youngster, and now the ones with button ends. They all are elastic here, and I found them to be tiring on my shoulders after half a day. Nice to know non-elastic cloth braces shouldn't tire me as much.
My father always wore braces,as you have said, the trousers hang better,I still do myself at 77 yrs old interesting vlog, I have problems with trousers lengths being 5ft.4in.😊
I’m older (51) and continuously learning. I learned what not to wear at my office setting employment. You would be amazed….These videos are excellent for the fashion challenged. Cheers from OKC.
I always wear braces with my suits for the reasons you mentioned. Considering them an undergarment I am not concerned if leather and metal matches the rest of what I am wearing.. (I do not remove my Jacket from the time I leave my house from the time I leave in the morning until returning that night.
Absolutely agree, braces are far more comfortable than a belt. I have three pairs, one being white for evening wear, though sometimes the cummerbund is more appropriate (when worn the correct way up of course).
@@RampleyandCo After viewing your video, I looked RampleyandCo's website. You don't sell braces. I then looked at Nordstrom's website. Their braces are not inexpensive. Do you have a median price point that that you like? Thank you.
IMHO it's a lovely option to have especially correct with black tie. I wear all itineration of trouser 'suspension gear' depending on the level of formality of my 'ensemble' . I am sometimes worried that braces worn with trousers that have belt loops may not be quite correct but with the dismal state of male dress in general only the few would notice?!
It's quite difficult to find these braces in the video that are not made entirely with elastic fabrics. Anyone has suggestions for a UK retailer? Rampley doesn't seem to sell them!
Some RTW trousers are supplied with brace buttons (Ede & Ravenscroft, Oliver Brown, Cordings) but buttons can easily be added to any trousers. It is also possible to obtain this style via most MTM programs. Thanks for your question.

I prefer and do wear braces with the majority of my trousers; however, the braces I purchase have an adjustability issue for me as a gentleman of 5' 7" in height. I usually have to adjust them up to or near my shoulders, can braces be purchased in different lengths? Thanks!
Good Sunday morning my brother...type in suspender store now take it from there...length will be explained good luck!!!!!! PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW!!!!!!!!
Already a convert to braces, love them but can I have buttons sewn into trousers with belt hooks and would I then forgo the belt or wear the braces and the belt?
If it's under a sweater, double-breasted jacket or waistcoat, nobody will know. Otherwise, I find naked belt loops to be a bit jarring, and will have trousers specially cut to wear braces. But see what works for you. Not everyone starts with a complete wardrobe.
I like to have suit pants made with both side adjusters and suspender buttons (not belt loops), IMO looks less out of place than belt loops with suspenders. Also, generally should have pants fit a little looser in waist and hips with suspenders, thus I can wear the pants with side adjusters when my weight is a little higher and then suspenders when my weight fluctuates down a bit. I like pairing with a single pleat and higher rise overall. Kirby Allison sells quality suspenders if looking for a US retailer.
I used to wear braces with my suits but the problem I found was the button holes on the braces would wear out. I suppose that's inevitable but still it's annoying thing about braces.
Brace yourself for this awkward question... Do they lie over your nipples or outside of them? My nips are supersensitive; I can't stand wearing overalls or having anything rub them. In light of that, are braces for me?
Generally they fit somewhat between the breast and shoulder but sometimes do abrade. I recommend a soft cotton undershirt and dress shirt, both should fit somewhat loosely. The braces don't fit super tight against the chest anyways.
Where have you been? I am glad I came across this channel. You have classic style advice without being an infomercial for whomever will pay.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
I have always worn suspenders with my suits. They add class to whatever you wear.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! We couldn't agree more - suspenders do add a real touch of class.

Either a waistcoat or some kind of outer layer like a cardigan, sweater or vest so that the braces are hidden.
I do hope you get over the self consciousness. To me, suspenders always add style points unless they are clip ons and jeans!

Sounds great!

You can wear braces and a cummerbund together. A much better solution if you are at all worried about what your waist size really is.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment!
I wear red brace with my navy blue suit and my red pattern tie
Thank you for your comment!
Yes certainly. Especially wearing a high rise trouser with a waistcoat. Belt should be only worn with low rise trousers
Thank you for your insightful comment!
I remember the pain of clip on braces coming undone and smacking me

In my country the only time I’ve ever seen braces is when there is a labour government voted in. Everyone braces then 😂
Interesting…I always associate them with the Thatcher-Reagan era.

New & Lingwood, Hilditch & Key, Oliver Brown, Turnbull & Asser.
The problem for me is finding all natural made, and something that works with very high-waisted trousers.
Thank you for your comment.
You need bespoke trousers for braces because they need buttons which is not available from the shelves ready trousers. Am I right ?

Bill Lumbergh, Patrick Bateman and Gordon Gekko all rocked braces.

How about when you wear a regular or turtleneck sweater?
If you tuck your knitwear into your trousers, you can wear braces. I like box cloth with sweaters.
@chrismodoo6563 is there any wear and tear on your wool clothes by doing so? Either by the braces or trousers?
@@sugarraybow I’ve not encountered it. Over time you will need the brace buttons tightened.
A sweater goes very nicely over braces, and makes it easier to remove your jacket without being thought indecent.
I don’t think the sight of braces has been regarded as indecent since the late 19th century…

I have never worn out a pair of braces and still have pairs I bought in the 80s. The leather ends are quite sturdy.
