I had the good fortune to visit Lock & Co while visiting London last year. I was a tourist in jeans and a back pack. These gentlemen were very gracious, showing me all you see in this video. They're very passionate about hats and I agree, if you want to look great in a hat you won't go wrong visiting Lock & Co.
Churchill story's abound but a simple favourite came from his grandson. At Chartwell one day, as a young boy, he walked into Winston's study where he was working. He asked "Grandfather, is it true that you are the most famous man in the world ?" Churchill replied "Yes, now bugger off !"
You look very cool in that Top Hat Kirby - you can pull it off very well, which I don’t think is that easy to do. The production quality of your videos is also first class and I don’t think you have any rivals in that regard-congratulations!!
Personall, no. But Saphir does sell a product called "Sole Protector" for this purpose. It is a veg oil based conditioner that is supposed to also help waterproof.
All good ! 🙂 EXCEPT in Episode 1: Blenheim. . . no real view inside, no discussion of the first Duke of Marlborough (another famous British war leader) - who Winston wrote a massive biography about, just prior to WWII. . .
As a Londoner who works in the City, sadly there are very few parts of London you could walk as you are dressed like that without being robbed unless you are driven door to door. The Gentleman's notion of London has gone , so you really shouldn't be encouraging a kind of Mary Poppins kind of view of London that hasn't been there for over 40 years
I’m sorry you feel like that. My only suggestion is that you should wear a suit tomorrow and experience the magical world of the well-dressed that you have been missing in one of the greatest cities on earth. It’s all there, hidden in plain sight.
@@kirbyallisonI’m also a Londoner who works in the city and the view that the other gentleman has expressed is thankfully, with the greatest respect, nonsense. I wear a suit and dress well most of the time and go out all over London. I use public transport and walk at all times of the day and I very rarely see anything that concerns me. London is not crime free of course, but the notion that you can’t walk around without being robbed or encountering danger is laughable. In fact, I was out last night until very late near Spitalfields in London, then walked down to the underground station at Aldgate East, then got the tube home. I have been doing this sort of thing for the last 30 years in my working life and never have been robbed or otherwise. It’s sad that the other gentleman must live in fear and worry about his safety, but I think that fear is overblown. I am very lucky enough to live in one of the greatest cities in the world and enjoy it to the maximum I can. Whether that is dinner with friends, relaxing at my club, or just strolling and enjoying the ambience. Kirby, I’m a great fan of your videos and enjoy them immensely. Whilst your videos capture one side of London, it’s a side that does really still exist alongside many others which are completely different. That’s what makes London such a great city.
It’s wearing a watch which is the issue. Doesn’t matter what part of London it is, I’d only ever wear a watch as long as it’s under a sleeve and easily hidden. I have a submariner and an aquanaut If you’ve got a nice suit, you’re very unlikely to be wearing it in a rough area. The areas I grew up in, you’d only wear a suit for court or a funeral.
@@Mooooooof again, I don’t think that’s a huge issue. I have nice watches too and wear them all the time. All of my friends do too. Watch theft does happen but it’s pretty rare.
As a Londoner who works in the Westminster area, I'd have to say that this is not my experience. Are there parts of London that would be unwise to walk through whilst well dressed? Absolutely (but is there any capital city in the world where that isn't true?). However to pretend that there's anywhere in "Zone 1" (Transport for London Fare Zones) that you should not walk whilst well dressed is, in my 25 years experience of living in the city and regularly walking through the London Boroughs of City of Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing, Camden, Newham and Wandsworth as well as the City of London, totally wrong. Relax, take the normal precautions you would take in any major city, know the city and its areas and just enjoy being you! I cannot tell you the number of times I've received compliments from strangers in the street or a central London park or enjoyed "especially good service" in a bar or restaurant due to being smartly dressed with well shined shoes.
Actually he wasn't stylish at all, he wore clothes expected of his class and family, rather expensive, rather smart, and rather unremarkable and actually unflattering as he got fatter and older. Churchill was many things but a clothes horse wasn't one of them.
I think the more interesting story here is that Churchill was actually quite intentional in the construction of his public image. Yes, he wore clothes that were expected of him - as everyone did of that era - but he also was very intentional and careful to be just different enough to be memorable. Yes, Churchill was a man that loved cigars, but he was also a man who knew that having a prop was important for crafting a public identity. Just as with his hats, painting smocks, etc. etc.
The only thing Kirby hasn’t done at least that I’m aware of is attend an opera and sit on the top row and use opera glasses the ones with the little handle. That would be the ultimate douchebag snootiness. Don’t tell Kirby about opera glasses people! 😂
@ 🤣 You’re the goat Kirby. Me and my bro-in-law watch your channel all the time. We’re like maybe one day we can visit him and have drinks in his cigar room. You got him into cigars, suits and shoes. He even got a little cigar cutter and torch lighter. Texas 🙌🏼
Kirby you are not British. Your background and accent make it inappropriate for you to host this. You grate with the narrative. This story needs telling by an Englishman.
As an Englishman, I am quite happy that Kirby is telling these stories, just as much as I would be if anyone else told them. There are plenty of opportunities to see Englishman telling these stories, but Kirby puts his unique take on them which adds to the narrative.
Except that no Englishman has bothered to spend the money and make the effort to do what Kirby is doing. It’s a free opportunity for a Brit to step up and be counted, so please show us “how it should be done”. I admire Kirby because he embraces all the sophisticated elements of English culture, honors them, promotes them and spends his own dough to do so. He is a more elegant gentleman than the vast majority of men around the world who are dressing like rubbish and can’t tell a notch lapel from a peak lapel or an Oxford from a Derby or have a clue what a three roll on two is. Bravo The Texan!!
I'm really enjoying this broadcast quality series. Well done Kirby and team.
Thank you! Now, if we could only hit 900,000 subscribers!

Very enjoyable and impressive episode. Thank you for creating this.
I’m in England for Christmas, but I’m in the northeast and Scotland the whole time. I’ve got to see a few of these places next time I’m here.
This is a great series.
Absolutely stunning! When are we going to see you visit Optimo in Chicago, in a different series?
It's in the works!
Some great suits, coats and jackets especially the RYS one. In the 80’s I remember owning the beige overcoat (British warm?) myself.
Great job delving into these interesting aspects of Churchill !
This is absolutely fantastic! Thank you for making this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Makes me proud to have a Poole & Co. suit incoming
Congratulations!
I don't care about churchill, but this was so well made it was a pleasure to watch. And the hat part was really interesting.

As Lady Cunard once said of him after a drunken weekend: "Winston isn't well-dressed but let us be glad he manages to get dressed at all"
He also said, “Madame you’re ugly, but in the morning I slhall be sober!”
Well done sir. Cheers!

They have so many incredible fragrances... every time I walk in that shop, I come out with something new.
Well done.
Kirby, we want to see you in morning suit and top hat at Royal Ascot next year.
I have to say you have a good team behind you the quality of the filming is right up there with history or the travel channels
You're very kind. Everyone involved puts in a lot of work. Without question a team effort.
My favorite photograph of Churchill was by Yousuf Karsh who famously plucked Churchill's cigar from his mouth the instant before snapping the photo.
Sweet guy Keep it up 👍
Hey Kirby from India. I really love the quality of ur work that boosting my work too. plz make a video of BRIONI and Kathryn sargent.
You were born to wear that Top hat.
Now Kirby, the burning question... did you keep the hat? 😊
yes, inquiring minds want to know. could have been the chance to finally put that white tie ensemble together or maybe morning dress for Ascot.
Hi Kirby, I have a shoe question. When cleaning your shoes do you ever condition the soles?
Personall, no. But Saphir does sell a product called "Sole Protector" for this purpose. It is a veg oil based conditioner that is supposed to also help waterproof.
Outstanding 😊👍 hello gentlemen how are you 💗
I bought a luxury suit bag from HP. It’s brilliant. M
Did you not consider taking a Homburg from the shop?
I have a Homburg from Optimo Hats already!
@@kirbyallisonIs your Homburg black like the one shown here?
can you do more shoe fitting ?
I read that Churchill sometimes left a tailor’s bill unpaid for years. True, Kirby?
We discussed that during our segment with Henry Poole!
@ Thank you, I missed that.
Your Awesome Kirby...
Thank you!
@kirbyallison 😎

Y'know?
Indeed.
Are you still doing the narration yourself? It sounds a bit off, like an ElevenLabs voice replica of yourself.

Don’t show this to Daryl cooper or Tucker Carlson
this may be the most based video yet
