In our video, Menswear Stylist Chris Modoo shares his tips and tricks for pattern mixing.
British guys invented tailored clothing and the best experts on tailored clothing are still British guys in my opinion. The best British guy I have seen is Modoo. I am not sure I understand how the patterned tie and yellow pocket square complement each other; I just see that they're different. But I know Modoo's right. He's always a step ahead.
Chris, I call this video a 12 min 24 sec masterclass. There is a lot to take in and I found myself winding the presentation back to re-watch various sections. That is no bad thing. It is also good that you challenge our opinions with a number of the variations, likewise exploiting the subtlety of the herringbone pattern in the jacket and the fine Prince of Wales check in the tie for added interest to the overall look. (Incidentally, the colour trace in that tie (at 7:11) looks like pale turquoise blue to me rather than green). Unlike others commenting here, I think that a plain pale blue shirt, rather than the striped one, would have worked better with some of the examples - each to his own. Lastly, you are absolutely right about wearing our attire with confidence. If we adopt a mindset to be the best presented man in the room (well groomed, a clean ironed shirt, pressed trousers and polished shoes etc) you cannot but brim with confidence. And therein lies the best excuse for dressing well. Thank you, Chris, for showing us how to do it.
I could watch you do this all day. So incredibly creative and tasteful! When I become a millionaire, I’m going to hire you to dress me. Great job!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled you enjoyed the content, and it means a lot to us.
Dude, you don’t need a million dollars for him to dress you. Take a look at my cousin, he is dead broke and he gets this guy to dress him every day.
Office space.
Very nice clothing!!!
Just found this Chanel, absolutely love it👍
Modoo's thought process and visual examples work together well. Modoo is so hip that I sometimes don't fully understand what he is showing me. I can only hope to imitate him; I can't think like him.
I took a look at your website today. Missing: a lightweight wool/linen/silk jacket for slaying the sartorial competition in airport lounges.
I love some of Modoo's examples. That blue shantung tie with the herringbone jacket and blue and white striped shirt is a killer combination!
I love it, just a bit of visual interest.
Many thanks!
Love the examples. I have always been a straight forward, single color, little to no pattern in my clothing. I have always been in awe of people who are able to mix color and pattern to obtain a cohesive and appealing look. So much more interesting to be able to pull and highlight certain colors in a mixed ensemble.
Excellent presentation. I always felt that the generally accepted “rule” about no more than three patterns is simply a caution. The more patterns you incorporate, the more difficult to match them up, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be done, as you have just demonstrated.
Additionally, the herringbone pattern of the jacket you used is visually more of a texture because it’s monochromatic, at least at a distance, so it’s easier to harmonize with other patterns.
Thank you for the good advice. Learned something today. Thank you again for that.
In my opinion The tie and the pocket square are like the flavor & kick of the entire suit. I don’t like patterned or colored suits besides black, navy, greys maybe tweed/herringbone browns and beige or sand tones as well. Keeping my style serious with a touch of personal style & self expression without looking like a colorful clown. Shantung ties are my favorite, With the artistic pocket square designs from Rampley & Co. !
This is a really great video Chris. Thank you. I love the final comments that confidence makes things work. I have found that wearing quality clothing gives me confidence and that enhances the clothing too. It is a positive spiral.
This is the good stuff. 👌🏻
If you told me you were going to pair a checked jacked, polka dot tie, striped shirt, and paisley pocket square, I would have imagined it would look horrendous, NOT as stellar as it does in this vid.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Another great video. And I love to do 4 or even 5 patterns (adding a waistcoat), and trying out different combinations of patterns.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, if you get the harmony right, you can combine quite a few different patterns and it look really put together!
I’d wear any one of those combinations.
Thank you so much for your support! We’re glad you liked the combinations.
Hi Chris,
What kind of ties (if any) would go with tattersall patterned shirts?
Good question. I’d wear a knitted tie or something with a country theme either woven or printed.
@@LittleLouieLagazza That is great advice, I'll try it out next pay day!
How would you add in the waist coat and trousers? All the same as the jacket? Or maybe solids?
Solids with contrasting textures…
With the herringbone jacked what kind/ color slacks would you wear with it .
Mid-grey flannels
Not a fan of cloth ties , I only like silk. Chris do you ever wear bow ties , besides a formal event ?
No. I would only wear a bow for black tie or white tie.
0:39 that jacket is fire. What is it?
Thanks so much for your kind comment! We're glad you like the jacket. Unfortunately, the check fabric has been discontinued by our jacket manufacturer. We're always on the lookout for new styles though, so stay tuned for future designs!
I think you could have fit a mustard or other yellow pocket square into that last outfit to complement the details on the tie
Thank you for your suggestion!
Anyone know which brand of dress shirts they use for these videos?
Hi, yes the shirts in our video are a mix of Turnbull & Asser and Charles Tyrwhitt shirts. Hope that helps!
What is the last tie called ?
This is our Chocolate Glen Check Merino Wool Tie. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued. However, you can explore the rest of our Fox Brothers Tie Collection here: www.rampleyandco.com/collections/the-fox-brothers-tie-collection
I do not like the look of a white pocket square (no matter the colored edge) with a plain (light) blue shirt. Somehow, this makes the shirt look less clean and neat.
Overall a beautiful and useful video though!
Modoo is going to be the best man at my wedding when I marry Leah, the hot Rampley babe!
I appreciate your videos but sir, this music choice is not it. Get some jazz or something more relaxing instead .
Cheers
I love some of Modoo's examples. That blue shantung tie with the herringbone jacket and blue and white striped shirt is a killer combination!
