Thank you for your video. I appreciate following your food program. I have severe insulin resistance. I am eating on a plan of less than carbs a day. You are probably around 150 to 200 carbs a day.
Hi FMQ; Social occasions require thinking ahead. Abstinence no matter what, no matter what, abstinence! For social events, I call ahead to find out what will be served. If say the protein doesn't fit my plan I'll bring some of my own. Also some people eat before the event and have herbed tea or water with lime. After all, we no longer attend events to overeat, we attend events to socialize, if I don't particularly like the people or they are toxic, I won't go, I'm taking care of myself now. When I'm planning on going to a restaurant I look up the restaurants menu ahead of time to make sure they offer foods on my food plan. I look for plain steak or seafood, (chicken is shot up with chemicals) salad ordered without croutons, cheese, etc.(I bring my own 'clean' dressing or ask for plain olive oil). I order a plain sweet/potato using sea salt and some of the 'clean' dressing. If no potato is available I'll take my own baggie of measured defrosted green peas to discreetly add to the salad. On holidays, if the celebration is held at my house I serve tasty foods that also fit into my plan. I will save out my portion before adding ingredients not on my plan. I think of it as a puzzle, figuring out how to make myself and loved ones happy. If eating at someone else's home, I'll call and check on the menu ahead of time, (I say I'm now treating food 'sensitivities' I feel better eating this way, etc.), and bring a dish to share that fits my food plan. If I'm following my food plan to the letter, in time, I will not be envious or craving what others 'can have' my body will be satisfied and well nourished. I wouldn't trade my peace of mind and freedom from the foods that hurt me for anything! Always being polite and not advertising our food plan or schooling people on the errors of their ways just because we've seen the light. If someone asks about my food plan I offer to tell them all about it at another time. If I think social occasions or eating out will be a challenge to my abstinence I'll stay safely at home, for now, social occasions will get easier as time goes on. Wishing you all the best on your recovery journey FMQ! Nancy D., Gratefully Recovering Food Addict

@@eshjane If I am flying I prepare two meals to take with me in my carry-on bag because of delays that usually happen with air travel. The airport food is not usually that 'clean' and is overpriced. If I stay at a hotel I purchase food from the grocery store that is easy and convenient to use and I store it all in the room's mini fridge. Hi, thank you for opening your lifeplan so we can all learn. I have a question, what do you do when you go to a restaurant? Its so hard to eat clean and not feel really frustrated.
I prefer to make the majority of my meals at home. I use quality ingredients, I know exactly what I'm eating and it also costs less! I do go out occasionally with friends. I check the restaurant online ahead of time to make sure I can get some foods that fit my meal plan. Ethnic restaurants are difficult and I avoid them. A place with seafood or steak is my preference. I don't order chicken in a restaurant because they're injected with 'stuff'. When ordering I tell the waitperson that I have allergies, which makes them pay attention. I say I need my food prepared plain, without sauces or seasonings (table salt has sugar to suspend the iodine, for example). I'll order fish or steak cooked without sauces or seasonings with a large salad asking for no croutons, cheese, fruit, or dressing. Just the vegetables. I ask for olive oil and vinegar on the side. I don't use Balsamic vinegar because it has sugar in it! (I'm extremely sensitive to sugar!) I'll also get a baked potato or sweet potato plain without toppings as a starch accompaniment (I drizzle some olive oil on it). I've checked the menu ahead of time so know if they offer potato. If no potato is available (especially at lunch) I'll bring a measured cup of peas to discreetly add to my salad. Bring your own 'clean' seasonings or sea salt if you need to. The meal will be more pleasant the less you talk about your food plan. If someone wants to talk to you about it ask to do that at another time, if they are really interested. We should make the restaurant experience pleasant for our fellow dinners, the waitstaff, and especially for ourselves. If someone makes a comment about my food, I say I feel so much better now that I'm eating healthy and want to keep it up! Remember, for us, there is no just this once, no vacation from food addiction. The healthy meal plan I follow is my Rx for my eating disorder! Just be cool and act in a matter of fact way when you pour your peas on your salad! LOL! If you're still shaky and think you'll be tempted to order something you don't want to or feel bad because others order your favorites, skip the restaurants for now, invite friends over for a healthy homemade 'clean' ethnic meal instead! All the best to you Jessica! Love, Nancy D., Gratefully Recovering Food Addict

Your face looks amazing. I have been working with a dietitian. My problem is binge eating. She says that it is okay because I get back on the next day. BUT it isn't ok. I have done what I am doing now for 7 years. I have only lost 3 lbs in 4 months. I don't see how that is ok. I am 100 lbs overweight. Nothing I hate worse than porridge type things...and also don't like cold oats.
Hi 100 Days! Dietitians sometimes think it's ok to have sweets every once in a while. NOT for food addicts! First, don't eat any sugar, sugar products, or artificial sweeteners read all labels! Table salt has sugar, stick to sea salt. Cut out all flour and anything made of flour, it turns to sugar quickly starting in your mouth! So-called "natural ingredients" are sugar. Check all labels. As the Big Book of AA says, "allergy of the body obsession of the mind" (binge) Make sure you eat your full weighted and measured meal. when we restrict or skip meals it sets us up for a binge! The first few days following your food plan will be tough but do what it takes to not overeat or undereat because after a few days the obsession leaves! Then it is not a body craving it will be your choice to overeat or not. You don't have to have porridge or oats. Any measured grain or a starchy vegetable like sweet potato will do. Not easy but so worth it! Don't stop before your miracle 100! Love, Nancy D., Gratefully Recovering Food Addict

Hi Kendra! Those liquor pourers I use on oil and vinegar bottles can be found in some supermarkets in the cooking gadget isle or in the liquor mixed drinks section. It is tough not having in-person meetings right now! OA.org has always had phone and online meeting listings. They now have video meetings listed also! Hi Cheryl Rose! I haven't found commercially prepared almond milk that is "clean" without using "natural flavoring" (another term used for sugar). You could make your own with preferably two ingredients, almonds, and water, you could use vanilla bean powder (optional). Almond Milk Recipe from Elephantastic Vegan ▢1 cup blanched almonds (you can use regular ones, but the milk won’t be that white!) ▢4 cups water (use less if you want to make it thicker) ▢1 pinch salt INSTRUCTIONS: Soak the almonds overnight. Drain and rinse the almonds. Put the almonds and the water in a high-speed blender and blend on high for a couple of minutes. Put a strainer in a bowl lined with cheesecloth. Then pour the almond milk into the cheesecloth and press out excess liquid. Then store the milk into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

How to you plan for traveling?
@@eshjane If I am flying I prepare two meals to take with me in my carry-on bag because of delays that usually happen with air travel. The airport food is not usually that 'clean' and is overpriced. When I stay with family, my first stop is at the grocery store to pick up the foods that support my food plan. If I stay at a hotel I purchase food from the grocery store that is easy and convenient to use and I store it all in the room's mini fridge. It's a matter of planning ahead for success and it can be fun and creative figuring out how to keep with your food plan. Happy travels Jane! Nancy D. Gratefully Recovering Food Addict
Great video!

I tried the Fage non fat yogurt today. I think you said it was the brand you liked? I put my blueberries in it and it was delicious. Going without sugar and fat, makes me enjoy things like this where I wouldn't have before. Ordering the cook book you had too.
Yes Kendra I like Fage or any yogurt without ingredients added like sweeteners, thickeners, or chemicals to it! Once we get off the added sugar, added salt, and added fat, foods, real whole foods taste delicious!! I like my yogurt with some good quality cinnamon added! I know this works. When younger, i lost 87 1\2 pounds in 1 year and additional 12 1\2 pounds after that. Im a Senior now and Diabetic and need to get my groove back. Plus all new people to meet and love. I wish this lady could be my Sponsor. I can relate to what she does only it seems so ominous to me now in my older age.
I know you can do it Valerie!
@@GratefullyRecoveringFoodAddict Hi i need to do this as a life saving method as well as for my health. I just can't seem to get started. I like the menu but tend to grab stuff instead. Not necessarily bad bad like treats more like just eat what i dont have to cook. Please tell me how to get Food Sponsor. What was easy years ago is now ominous. Mainly due to pain and depression. Thank you so much!
I enjoy your videos so much! I've just started watching them. No meetings has been hard and your videos help with that. I wonder if you could link where you get the little taps for your oil and vinegar. What are they actually called? I wonder if I could find them on Amazon? Kendra in WA State.
Hi Kendra! Those liquor pourers I use on oil and vinegar bottles can be found in some supermarkets in the cooking gadget isle or in the liquor mixed drinks section. It is tough not having in-person meetings right now! OA.org has always had phone and online meeting listings. They now have video meetings listed also! If you want to find a local meeting it might take a little digging but go to the face-to-face meeting section and find the meeting listings for your area and call some of the contact names listed to find video meetings of local people in your area! Can you use almond milk
Hi Cheryl Rose! I haven't found commercially prepared almond milk that is "clean" without using "natural flavoring" (another term used for sugar). You could make your own with preferably two ingredients, almonds, and water, you could use vanilla bean powder (optional).
Almond Milk Recipe from Elephantastic Vegan
▢1 cup blanched almonds (you can use regular ones, but the milk won’t be that white!)
▢4 cups water (use less if you want to make it thicker)
▢1 pinch salt
INSTRUCTIONS:
Soak the almonds overnight.

When you say a cup of grain for lunch in your salad do you usually use ancient grains like quinoa or even maybe some brown rice? One more thing, is it Kay Shepard or K. Shepherd eating plan you follow?
It is KaySheppard.com. At lunch I would usually use 1 cup of peas (starchy vegetable) on a salad. All of the meals looked so yummy and nutritious- but just wondering, what is your opinion on treat meals? Do they derail your progress, or is there ever a special time for such meals?
Hi Ms Jones! I always stick to my 'non-alcoholic' abstinent foods! Food is fuel for me now. I no longer use food to medicate, celebrate, or treat myself. Clean foods keep me off that addiction hamster wheel! I've found healthy ways of treating myself (self-care, gratitude for the simple things, spending time in soul-enriching activities, nature, etc.). That doesn't mean I don't enjoy food and sharing meals! On my birthday, for instance, I'll prepare my favorite foods, all foods from my meal plan, weighed and measured, of course. I can eat out abstinently but I do prefer my own food, better quality and prepared just the way I like it! When going to a friends home, I'll ask what's on the menu and how it's prepared, never demanding people prepare just for me or change their recipe or menu, I bring my own supplements as needed. Note: true friends want you to take good care of yourself the way you need to! At the holiday I'll make Kay Sheppard's pumpkin custard for breakfast, for example, I save having that dish for special occasions in that way I guess you could call it a treat! Hope this helps! There is no vacation from food addiction for this food addict! ❤ Nancy D

I didn't care for your breakfast, I think it has way to much milk. When I do things like oats, I like them almost dry. I'm strange that way. The rest of the foods, looked really good.
That bowl of cereal breakfast stuff looks disgusting
This isn't OA, sure might as well go to WW if I'm going to follow your videos... It's about emotional eating, not a diet 🙄🙄🙄
This is OA. For food addicts everything must be done by weighing and measuring to prevent cheating on portions. Because if you cheat on portions, that is a license to go way off your food plan. Thank you for the video.
