I just don't see why this STILL can't be promoted in today's Marketplace. This is timeless. That is the problem with American music industry. Its NEVER about the music. I think anyone born in the last 40 years who have no idea this seven existed if heard it would buy it or STREAM it nowadays. This could still be a huge hit.
Unspeakable Peace I love Mr Sanders gift of music, he is an angel sent from Heaven to give joy to us through his interpretation harmony, love, depth, and spirit.
I experienced Pharoah Sanders last Friday at the SF JAZZ CENTER. It was a marvelous performance in a marvelous space. He was groovin' and showed us he could still do a deep knee bend. Soul fulfilling music.
There is no saxophone sound like that of the Pharoah. I saw him in 1972 at the now defunct Jazz Workshop on Boylston St in Boston, with the "Count" Steve Marcus et al. Then again next spring in Berkeley in California. Actually talked to him for a couple minutes. Friend and I were on a cross country trip and I checked out the newspaper and was amazed to see him playing across the Bay. I have played this song, Shukuru to a background video of a aerial flight over and around Monument Valley. The combination is cosmic; dare I say Astral Travelling like. Many years later, about 5 or 6 years ago, I saw him at Scullers at the Double Tree. My wife and I were in the front row and had our feet almost on the stage. Even in his 70s Pharoah was engaged and soulful. He even dipped down to a deep knee bend while he was playing to the cheers of the audience. I was ready to leap out to place a chair under him in case he couldn't make it back up...but he did. He is the last connection to the Great One, Coltrane. But Pharoah is an icon now in his own right.
One of my favorite greats, a living legend of the arts and spiritual Master's of the age, who's guru wisdom enlightenment and consciousness revealed another realm of liquid souls.
R.I.P oh great spirit, your departure has manifested a valley of grief and sorrows to know that ypur presence has transcended back to Allah, the source of all finite matter seen and unseen. Maasalama 🌌🤲
and finish with a cigarette, passing your gaze between the now starry sky and your softly sleeping exuberant lover delicately half draped in bed linen... while were painting mental pictures, followed by a swift exit and a note on the pillow saying "gone for pizza". never to return hahaha ;)
RIP Pharaoh. Your music always means something deeper to me that i cant explain, but feel whole hearty. One of a kind! RIP 9-24-22
