    And now he's gone. The music world has lost a giant. So grateful I lived in SF in the 1980s, where he lived, and got to see him often. RIP, Pharoah. Your music is an inspiration to millions.

    It was this version, of this track, alongside 'Visions' by Stevie Wonder that made me listen to music in a different way. I was a child, and discovered both of these tracks around the same time.

      ...awesome.... For me it was Ella.... Sounds strange yeah, sure until you learn what life for a coloured woman in the early 20th century was like.
      Such poise and humility these people have.... These are the lessons that we must pass on.

    Only just heard of his passing. There were tears of sadness but also of joy knowing he left us with so many wonderful moments as he completed his journey here. May your horn blow forever with God and the angels in Heaven. RIP you ol fader!

      Man I didn't even know that was a thing! Took me down a bit of a rabbit hole. Seems both corny and a lot of fun, and weirdly authentic! I thought they had ditched the authenticity in the early 70s. Glad to see jazz lives everywhere

    Cm9-Dm7-Gm7-Am7. Rinse. Repeat. How they manage to keep four chords interesting for almost severn minutes is beyond my comprehension, but they surely do. John Hicks (p), Ray Drummond (b), Idris Muhammad (d). BTW, one of the singers is Bobby McFerrin, a couple of years before he recorded his first album.

      Yeah it IS amazing. Pharoah is a little like John Coltrane turned rock star. But I dont mean that in a disparaging way. Pharoah, like his mentor JC and many other predecessors, has a clear mission of carrying a message of spiritual uplift through music.
