P5 in a minardi in 2002, at your first race in your home country. Just amazing
And we'll just stay nice and quiet about the fact that he was 5th of 8. It was still a great showing in a friggin Minardi, and I think noone wasn't happy for him. Such a great guy and he really would have deserved to get on the podium "for real" at least once down there.
More amazing: He fended off a Ferrari Super Sub.
In a Minardi*
@@mandolo100 No one not noone. And he was only fifth due to many retirements at the start of the race.
Letting him stand in the podium was just heartwarming. Aussies have the best spirit

Got to meet him last year at the restaurant I was working at. Genuinely a great person.
Minardi was the best and most sympathic Underdogs ever in Formula 1! 👍🏻
Just reading his book at the moment, he’s a legend!
Just finished his book, I loved it

@Samuel Andrews maybe. marks story is a fascinating one. he did pretty well for a humble aussie
Who needs commentary when you have this sound
You said everything 👏
👍
So true
Why are you commenting then😂
I agree! ;)
Look at those cars! And the sound... gooosh, what an amazing era!
Really awesome to be a young kid and grow up watching all this. These were the cars that made me a fan for life
Imagine having V10 Hybrids nowadays
@@TomMarques_ wouldn't sound amazing given they'd harvest the energy lost as sound with an overengineered hybrid system.
i disagree cz that season bearly had any overtaking
@@adammodan8030 But there was tension, you never knew if a car would finish the race. Most run offs weren't asphalt. And the cars looked and sounded great. This compensated for the lack of passing. One boring race today is trully boring, back then they could still be very entertaining.

Minardi....one of my favourite teams ever.
31 when he went to RBR... imagine what he could have done during his late 20s in a competitve, reliable car
What's 31 got anything to do with it? Do you know how old Hamilton is?... He's in a competitive car.
@@w.e.s9711 Hamilton has been to Mercedes for nearly a decade starting 2013, and before that he was in a rather competitive car such as McLaren. Im not denying Hamilton abilities , but the career in F1 , a successful one is the mixture of a lot of things performance wise and choice wise and not only. Cheers
@@ElioAliu1 my only point was a 31 year old would/can be just as competative as someone in their "late 20's"
His BMW Williams is more competitive than his First 2 Red Bull car. Mark Webber also loves and adapted so well with the new Slick Bridgestone tyres and his performance also faded a bit when they switch to Pirelli. Just like Kimi Raikkonen with Michelin grooves tryre
Nah he was always an average driver. Just another Bottas or Hulkenberg.

That feeling when a relatively lowly Minardi both looks and sounds better than any F1 car in the last 7 years.
@242turbo
Current cars look horrible: halo- and winglet-ridden stretch versions of an F1 car with ridiculous rear rideheight.
And it's a derived version of a 2000 Peugeot engine, no less
@@X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X The Halo doesn’t look too bad imo and there are cars today with much better liveries than the Minardi. The Minardi liveries weren’t that much but just all the sponsors they could get placed onto the car, which was what they had to do

Thanks for the memories Mark. You certainly made us Aussies proud 👍
Forcing Salo to take the wide line so that he would hit the spilled coolant was epic. Can't imagine the amount of pressure Webber had back then, especially since he's a rookie and the car behind was much faster.
F1 needs these engines back!
Wow official F1 channel brings us Natural sounds without ruining music. NICE!
I am a Minardi fan since 1999. This was a day that i will remember forever. The Gp was 4.00 pm Greek time and i was there with my eyes fixed at the back of the grid, hoping, as always, for a carnage in the first corner. The carnage actually this time happened and both Webber and Yoong survived it! I remember doing the same things every commercial brake so my luck wouldn't change! Thanks for the video Formula 1, great value for me! Forza Minardi!
Being that sound back!! This is life! 😍
What an incredible day.
I remember this vividly. What a terrific moment this was to have, in no uncertain terms, an absolute minnow finish P5. Terrific drive and was befitting of what Webber would become - a Formula 1 race winner.
Pelle d'oca... quanto manca la Minardi in Formula1...
2:05 I mean look he literally stops well earlier before the turn, so it then leads Salo to the mistake, what a genuine control!
still remember this special debut. when salo spun i went bananas! to see paul and mark on that podium made it hard to not cry of joy
Great times in F1. When the races were shown live in the UK for free and reliability meant we saw some crazy results.
Golden times
Fantastic sound! And love the rear view camera angle showing the smoke coming off the tyres during wheel spin.
What a day for Webber.
Oh the sound, nostalgia

Webber is one of those drivers that I always wished won a world championship. Great driver, brilliant guy
He was a brilliant driver.
i had more fun watching this video then all seasons combined since 2014
Nothing could ever change the power and sound of V10s ripping through gear changes on the track, going to Adelaide in 1990 to 1993 I had the pleasure of seeing the greatest competitors ever on 4 wheels, the sound was mesmerising as it bounced through the Adelaide City, seeing Senna race is something I will never forget.
this Minardi was beautiful
Look at the Minardi solid guy craying at the end. Made me melt, well done guys
0:19 Look at that. Two retired cars left on the grass. You won't see that in these days. Today they would bring out SC instantly.
Wasn't this the race where he deliberately let a spot open on the outside, so his follower would spin on the oil he noticed there?
Yes, that was this one.
Rookie had veterans legs on this one 😁
Those engine sounds are amazing 😍😍

Pure sound! Awesome, hate when there is some generic music on top, especially when you also have talking over that. Then there's three audio sources fighting for the attention, and it just makes a blur IMO. A maximum of 2 if you ask me, talk and car sound is perfectly okay :)

The fact that Seb destroyed him prooves that the RB were not that fast, Webber was a great driver but he had like 3 wins in 2012-2013. And, again, he was not a bad driver
2002 was a pinnacle of F1: no need of saving engines or gearboxes etc., great variety of teams like Minardi or Jordan or Arrows, tracks that weren't sea of tarmac, Sunday morning warm-up session, stellar F1 Digital+ coverage... I wish everything had been frozen to that year.
Also nice to see F1 using the "Digital+" footage for this.
"This is how a torpedo should sounds like", Kvyat
Man, I miss that sound!
Mark Webber deserved to be world champion
Finish P5 on your home race at the debut in F1 is great. But doing this with a Minardi in severe economical difficulty, with an extremely tight budget, powered by a Peugeot engine used by Prost Grand Prix in 2000 and Arrows in 2001 re-badged Asiatech and beating a giant of automotive like Toyota, who spent over a year of testing and spent half a billion of Dollars to this F1 program well, it's absolutely magnificent.
An absolute miracle. And I miss so much Minardi F1 Team...
I saw the entire race live as a child, I waa really happy for Minardi.
What a drive he kept Salo behind very brave drive debut

As someone who started watching in 2018 it's quite hard not to envy the people who got to watch these races and hear that scream.

How was beautiful that Minardi 😍😍
I was 15. Remember it like it was yesterday. I remember screaming out loud that he was guaranteed P6 at least on the penultimate lap because De La Rosa was in P7 a further two laps behind Webber. But seeing Salo spin made me go crazy...

0:36 lighting up the rear tyres! Mark really was pushing that Minardi to the absolute limit and beyond!
To think he had to wait 10 years to get a better result ('only' 4th) at his home Grand Prix...
Bring back V10!
The sound of the Cosworth engine is fantastic.
it's Asiatech engine - which was known as Peugeot in 2000, absolutely shitbox
I kept looking to see the Toyota's DRS activate on the straight, Gosh such an awesome and raw video though, really wanna watch some races from that era again now

if Minardi was still in Formula 1, I'd definitely be a fan of the team.
It technically is,but it's now under the ownership of Red Bull and is known as AlphaTauri.
Great defensive drive at the end. He definitely earned that place.
Oh, look! Two F1 cars that can fight one another, leading to mistakes, without DRS and so on...
Webber did exceptionally well considering that the diff on the car was broken as you can hear when he accelerates at the beginning onboard the wheels are spinning throughout the Rev range on second to third. Salo had everything in his power to get by mark but sadly the mistake was his own undoing
I've lost few pounds just watching. What a duel, what a sound! Thank You F1.
I’m crying!
No music, no commentary, just the sound of those engines. Wise choice for a soundtrack.
Oh how I miss Mark! Liked him as a person
