Play This Simple Riff For 3 Minutes
➤ Grab the Lesson Reference Material here: www.guitarmast...
This simple riff, learned in 3 minutes, then played for 3 minutes a day, will make you a better guitarist? You betta believe it!
This simple riff exercise goes beyond just something to practice with, it sounds super cool too!
I break this simple riff down, piece-by-piece, and show you how to play it across the open low E string at first. Then later on show you how to play it to a metronome and across all the other strings on your guitar.
Personally, I like to keep my practice sessions interesting and musical, rather than just something to get my fingers going. I also like my ears to be happy with what I’m practicing. That’s why I prefer to teach exercises that don’t appear to be mechanical and are enjoyable for you to play and anyone who happens to listen.
The results you can expect from playing this 3 minute riff are: better pull-offs, faster moving between frets, cleaner alternate picking, and overall tighter synchronization between your fretting and picking hands. Pretty awesome for a simple riff exercise to play for 3 minutes!
Also remember that this simple riff exercise can be played on multiple strings! That’s the beauty of an open string riff, you can play it on any string you want.
Personally I like to cycle between playing the 3 minute riff on the low E and A strings, sometimes jumping up to the high E string for some added excitement.
Using the metronome is key here, because while this is a simple riff it is important to play it with the proper timing to make it flow as you repeat it over and over again for 3 minutes.
📙 AND DON’T FORGET!! Grab your FREE Practice Session Cheat Sheet here: www.guitarmast...
👆 That cheat sheet is a game changer, no matter what level you’re at in guitar. When life sometimes gets in the way of practicing the guitar that we love, you never have to sacrifice your progress. All you need is a simple guideline on how to use what little time you have to achieve MAXIMUM results, and this cheat sheet will give you that!
When running through this simple riff exercise, remember my #1 rule is to have fun with it! Take what you’ve learned today and put it to work, but have fun while you’re doing it. Maybe even teach it to someone else and pay it forward :)
    Rock On!

Hey there, I am into "Guitar Mastery Method" for about seven months right now, and let me tell ya: NO REGRET!!! I am 48 years of age, started to play with 14, and believe me: after diving into the GMM - Exercises I felt like an absolute beginner...never played to a metronome before, just "played around" and wrote songs with my band (everything was just learning by doing)...however, meanwhile I take steps...no, JUMPS forward in my playing, that's awesome. Thanks for everything, everybody there at GMM, stay safe, healthy and as you are.
And of course, thanx a lot for this topic, too...great when you said: "Painfully slow"...😂🤘

See that’s what practice is.. you learn something then practice it over and over and over day after day where you don’t have to think about it anymore. Then you move on and learn something new but always incorporate what you have learned in the past and put it all together where you think it will flow. I see so many people practice for 30 mins or a couple days then they are upset because they’re not where they want.. you have to put the time and focus into your practice. Love your energy bro.

Excellent exercise for beginners. You can pick every note or use pull offs and pickings. You can practice all down strokes (I see you James Hetfield) or get better at hitting the “up” notes with an “up” pick motion. So better picking. Better pull offs / hammer ons. Better timing. Better syncing between your hands and your brain. Very cool!

Once again a simple riff, but a challenge to play cleanly. I am working my pinky into the highest note to grow my dexterity with it, and it's working. Slow but steady. This is giving me a regiment of patterns to practice each day including the drunk spider which is hard, but I can do at an even tempo now, slowly but working up. Can't wait to see where this keeps going.

Eddie, you have a great instructional style.
I can't wait to get home to practice this.
Thank you for recommending the metronome. It's a great reminder. Start slowly and build up speed. 🙏🕊️❤️

Nice video! Thanks! Having fun playing the riff! 😀
I do have difficulties though to play to a metronome (even at 55) as it somewhat "off-beat". Having a drum backing track makes it way easier for me. 🤷‍♂️
