    When it comes to learning guitar, one of the first thing most of us do is start learning famous riffs from our favorite songs. And while I am a big fan of learning entire songs...sometimes you just need to play some riffs. Learning how to play easy riffs is a great way to get yourself motivated & inspired & out of a rut of just practicing exercises & drills. This will help you make sure that you have actual music that you're working on instead of getting hung up on the academics of playing guitar. Hope this helps you out!

    I'm 65 years old and at 62 I fulfilled a lifelong dream of buying USA made Gibson and Fender guitar with a marshall amp.
    I spent the first year and a half just learning scales and playing scale variations to backing tracks.
    I never dreamed I'd be able to play some of these riffs. This is a fantastic lesson. Thank you so much.

      His spirit lives on through you son and the guitar.

    Was on verge of giving up guitar. Spent my time practicing cords, root strumming, simple arpeggios and strumming patterns. Was becoming a chore to practice. Didn’t want to learn songs until i had ‘learned’ guitar. Your lesson has given me fresh impetus. Being retired I have plenty of time. Still learning the basics but your songs are the ‘reward’ at the end of the day. Thank you so much

    • @TheHesseJames
      @TheHesseJames 3 месяца назад +1

      Playing guitar should be fun. Getting into grooves is important. Still, technical exercises will reward you later. I recommend doing three to five exercises over a total of 15 minutes, then learning one riff, then playing some of the riffs you already know. If you want to play for others, practice songs that are utmost easy to strum with 2 to 5 open chords and if possible singing to it. Nothing beats strumming and singing popular songs when playing for other people even if your singing isn’t that great. If you are lucky people will jump in and support your singing.

    • @flouisbailey

      Strum patterns have driven me nutty, but try some open G tuning, hope you have more than one guitar, each fret becomes a chord. It’s also a Keff Richards/stones staple.

    sick, i just got a guitar after kinda wanting to get one for nearly 20 years, because im sick of wasting time in front of screens and trying to expand my mind a bit. its a side hobby for me right now so im just trying to have some fun with it, im almost 40 so im not expecting to go pro any time soon with this.... playing riffs from songs I know is alot more fun that just strumming the same chords over and over again.
    i kinda wish i got an electric instead of acoustic though, since most of the music i like is electric and I hear its a little easier. but just making it sound like something is enough fun for me right now, thanks for the video

    You agreed 👍 chapters in a book yes taking taking the different song sections and compiling them building out a story is like a mini book with different chapters and uh adding in those details to make the song really shine . Chapters of the book are very detailed and some people say instead of track one they say chapter one yeah . so with the different uh uh the analogy to storytelling is is
    maybe not even an analogy it might even be like exactly the same because the song lyrics are in essence telling a
    story um other people who said the music of the words uh or the music of the words then
    the Rhythm then the bass then the basic Baseline Melody then tweak the words then detail of the melody harmonies then
    transitions then tweak the harmonies then recycle ♻. Song title plus numbers equals 🟰 chapters lyrics equals 🟰 details. And album 💿 title equals 🟰 book 📕 📖 📚 title.

    When I tried to learn how to play a guitar, they started me on chords. I spent days trying to make my darn fingers go into the right place. After I spent days doing that, I got so fn bored, I sold the guitar and quit.
    So what I see out of that, is that you have to forget that technical stuff right off the bat. If you can’t get inspired to play, the guitar will end up in the closet. You must have fun first. Then you can grow from that. If I was teaching someone to play golf, I wouldn’t have them hit 7 iron shots for days at a time.
