The Milwaukee Bucks signing Gary Trent, Jr to the vet minimum is the most underrated signing in free agency due to the fact that he wasn't going to sign anything less than the TPMLE or MLE. It also helped that Trent and Dame were teammates back in Portland
We are currently in the only summer where the I Hart contract is considered good. I don’t think it’s going to go well. He is a solid player, but not worth that much in 2024. OKC will still be great, don’t get me wrong. But that Hart roster spot and contract will be on overpay.
Interesting take and interesting how far perception and evaluation of players can be apart. I still think Hartenstein is an absurd overpay, yes he is a great fit, but you are still paying at least twice what he is worth for 30 mil a year and you are seriously in danger to loose jdub or chet due to salary cap issues. Buddy Hield is a cheap gamble, but the guy looks very washed and honestly has been quite poor for quite a few years now. Obi Toppin is another one i can not really agree with, i just think he is not very good and you could have gotten an equivalent back-up for siakam for much less.
@@And.One.Hoops1 I think Klay Thompson to the Mavs and Tyus Jones to the Suns are the 2 that stick out the most, fit and value are equaly great. Naji Marshal to the Mavs and DJJ to the Clippers are also both excellent signings on great numbers.
I think it's a good contract. He's the backup big they've been missing and can easily afford him until they have to max their core out. Could argue Thibs knows how to get the most out of his bigs. But, I think he'll translate well to OKC. Handles/passes the ball well enough - especially for a center - and is bare minimum a solid defender. 29 mil a year for a player who was top 20 in EPM last season should work out nearly all the time. Also #2 in D-EPM.
@@aaronpeters6209 To start with, 29mil for a back-up center as you put it, can not be a good contract. The only explanation i have for the Thunder paying him that much is that they are definetely planning to start him and shift Chet to the 4. Chet looked way more suited for the 4 last season, on offense defenitely as he is more of a stretch 4 than a center with an extremely limited under the basket game for his seize. He is also a much better weak side help defender than a classic rim protector, so that makes sense to me. Regardless of IHart, the thunder will be in a salary cap pickle in 2 seasons, there is no way that they can max-out Chet AND Jdub after giving SGA a super-max.
@@cadrollhunting3564 He's not a backup. He started 48 games last year & kept the spot once Robinson came back. And rightly so, finished #14 in EPM (#2 in D-EPM) I would think Presti is smart to not make such a signing if you don't expect him to play more than half the game. If you win the championship going over the 2nd apron is tolerable. If not I think you IHart's contract wouldn't be difficult to move. How big of an extension could JW and Chet be eligible for?
Sorry, pal. But seeing Hartenstein in the thumbnail I just couldn't help myself to say that it's eye-popping and head-scratching signing. How the hell is he worth that money ?
That’s the thing though, you look at the figure in a vacuum relative to his production and it sounds absurd to pay him that much. But then when you look at his impact and the fit with the Thunder it’s actually a great signing for them. For any other team, I wouldn’t necessarily like it
Have u seen his averages and games played? He literally hasn’t dropped off one bit, and will have less of a role on the kings. Kings got an all star player for quarter of the price and more available than most at his age. Have u seen paul George contract? And people give that an A grade lol
Hartenstein was an overpay. You could argue fit but that doesn’t negate the fact he was an overpay for that position. I was reading $20m at most during early offseason rumors but then to jump to nearly $30m annually is wild. Especially going for 0 points and 7 rebounds in an elimination game. That’s just not enough for $30m annually. OKC will likely be the #1 seed but they were likely to be a #1 seed without Hartenstein.

Its hard for me to see GT Jr making a difference in MIL

I think this deal only made sense for the thunder to make

Yeah that’s all fair. What do you think were some good contracts signings this offseason?

The Bucks have a bleak future? Agreed that they're aging but assuming they can get healthy they'll be a top 3 team in the East next season.
hartenstein signing was not underrated lmao. the media has been giving A to A+ to the thunder’s offseason and meatriding them like crazy. 😂
Derozan ?
Not at his age
