Dr Spencer Kohl was a geologist on an expedition to the North Pole... his colleagues in the department were doubtful about the use of a geologist on a landmass made entirely of ice but Kohl wasn’t to be discouraged!
Geologists and biologists study core samples from large ice sheets because it contains soil, minerals, and biological contaminants within layers that allow them to date the material and the ice form like tree rings. So his backstory is not entirely implausible.

The space sausage is still one of the most valuable piece of art on the market today. Billionaires are fighting over it to exhibit in their evil headquarters. One in particular has intentions of shooting the sculpture into space, outside our solar system in order to send a clear message upon first contact...

I bought this game when it came out at a comic book/game shop in Tulsa Oklahoma called Starbase 21. This brings back such great memories of being a teen in the 80s. Alas, Starbase 21 is long since defunct. We sat around making characters and eating pizza for HOURS. You know, I'm not sure we ever actually played the game. Lol
Hahaha! We share so many similar memories of RPGs at gaming stores. Hours of endless fun, very little accurate gameplay, and virtually no responsibilities afterwards except to think about the next game session. It was glorious.

That's a lot of effort put into a fashioning a gun that they wouldn't have ammunition for anyway. And for use against a plant? Surely pruning shears would have been simpler and more effective?

Technically combat was not run rules as written. Rules as written, prior to initiative rolls, everybody announces what actions they are going to take. When you roll initiative, if you've discovered that the action you want to take will happen behind somebody else's action and this action trumps yourself, then you make an agility FEAT check to determine if you can change your action.
That said, the way the game is being run by Jason is the way I ran the game as well. It was too cumbersome and confusing to Run Initiative rules as written.
Yeah, that system was not great. It's why I changed it to what you see in the show.
@@JasonBulmahnI actually like the combat rules as written, it feels more like a real comic book fight, but I love how easily you can customize the game to what you and your group likes. It makes things more fun. 😂
