  • With this magnetic experiment I want to show how to create a switch for permanent magnets.
Obviously you can not turn off the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, but by playing with more than one magnet and creating interaction with their fields you can get interesting results.
What you need for this experiment are 3 equal magnets and iron bars to cut the required size, add the pieces as you see in the video and you will have built a permanent magnet with ON / OFF switch
I used to build this switch:
    3 neodymium magnets 12x12x12 mm sumag.net/w-12-n-x01
    2 iron bars 12x12x70 mm
2 pieces of iron 15x4x26 mm
1 piece of iron 15x4x20 mm
1 of suitably cut plastic cap to build a ring nut and rotate the top portion of the switch

Classical magnetic experiments such as magnetic levitation, homopolar motors, small magnetic weapons, Gauss cannons, gears, magnetic field viewers and much more.
Satisfaction video like the construction of magnetic sculptures, slime and magnetic putty and product review.
ASMR relaxing videos to watch but above all to listen preferably with stereo headphones to be able to appreciate the particular sounds of the magnets

What is the weight of the Bench Vice? The magnets have strength of 6.3 kg, so total lift of 18.9kg. Looking at specs for similar Bench Vice, the weight seem to range around 31-40kg. The text on the FEA sim states "almost twice the power of a single magnet".
Although the switch is very cool, I"m more interested in increasing magnet performance when trying to minimize the overall weight of the system. And I"m curious as to how this arrangement increases the overall lifting performance of the three magnets.
Is it simply that the iron diverts/deflects/focuses/channels the magnetic field to the target area?
