- With this magnetic experiment I want to show how to create a switch for permanent magnets.
Obviously you can not turn off the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, but by playing with more than one magnet and creating interaction with their fields you can get interesting results.
What you need for this experiment are 3 equal magnets and iron bars to cut the required size, add the pieces as you see in the video and you will have built a permanent magnet with ON / OFF switch
I used to build this switch:
3 neodymium magnets 12x12x12 mm sumag.net/w-12...
2 iron bars 12x12x70 mm
2 pieces of iron 15x4x26 mm
1 piece of iron 15x4x20 mm
1 of suitably cut plastic cap to build a ring nut and rotate the top portion of the switch

About Magnetic Games:
All ways to have fun with magnets.
The magnetism has always intrigued me. The strength of the magnets is scientifically explainable but there's something "magical" about its interaction with the world. My Channel offers you curious experiments and fun games to do with magnets.

So simple, yet thinking of the idea and making it a working idea; now that's something else. Fantastic. Cheers.
Thanks, someone has created and marketed similar products, much more efficient. When the switch is off the attraction is nothing, not even the iron filings are attracted, incredible
Magnetic Games
Good luck to them. Shame it was not you :) Cheers.
Don't u think that using a brighter more powerful color like GREEN would be worth giving it a try to see if u get a better magnetic response? Jathot
can this be done with a circular magnet?
with 3 cilinders ...yes , you can do it
Please buy a new microphone with decent compression. Start a go fund me if you need to or something. I love your videos but I have to mute them and then just put on music or something
thanks for feedback :)
how to rotate smoothly ?
Would it matter if you had two magnets on the bottom and only one on the "switch?"
we should try ... but I think it would not work
Will this magswitch in off condition attract another permanent magnet
I'm going to the Fibonacci convention this year...
It promises to be as big as the last two put together!
I built this exact thing and mapped out the poles to get the exact same alignment and it didn't work. Any tips?
I have the exact same issue, and seeing that your message has not been replied to in 3 years is rough.

sorry :-/
No Problem. Just scared me :D Great video
Wearing headphones... guess us trump supporters can handle it.
well, Trump supporters are deaf, dumb and blind. so it is not a surprise.
Armin Arlert really?
There is any calculation to know the best metal lenght? or any size will do?
no sorry ... it worked well on the first try. the only important dimensioning is that on the switch there must be 2 magnets and in the center only one magnet ... all the magnets of the same dimension
Ok thank you, i also use same magnet size but i cant get it to work :( No attraction at all
it's strange ... watching the video you understand the polarity of the magnets? is very important
Very cool - was this your own invention?
Thank you Pasi, I took some inspiration from already existing products and various videos on youtube
Cool work nevertheless. It's an interesting concept -thanks for sharing this piece of magnetic knowledge.
Great project. Some uber-smart people will figure out how to create programmable, magnetic memory chips from this idea.
+epSos.de thank you :).
do a video of you solving a rubiks cube that is made entirely of neodymium magnets
it would be easy to rotate on two axes, while the axis of the magnetic field is not simple, it's very strong
21 thumbs down, must be afraid of magnets. How do they work, yo?
Try to attract a rotating iron core. The moment before the core is locked, you switch over.
this is an experiment that had me passionate, I will probably make a new bigger version :)
Good Luck. :)
Definitely going to try this... I just wonder if the length could be shortened. Seems rather bulky.
I think you can do smaller
Fixed or permanemt magnet always shows which direction??
1.north-north,south-south Or
2.north-south,south-north
Do you know if it's possible and if yes how to switch between push and pull force on a magnet without turning or moving the magnet?
:-)
was a software used to calculate and make the field visualization or it was drawed by hand?
you can use QuickField or FEMM. there is a limited free version of those software
cool! thank you.
Also you can add handle and level. And give mind mal force for switching.
is it easy to rotate the upper 2 magnets? or it takes some force to do so?
It's not difficult but you have to do a little bit of force. By engineering a better way the rotation mechanism would be very easy
is it necessary to use seperate 2 metal rods for the north and south pole? or can you use a whole metal pipe?
energy field was going up - no attraction....switch over..energy flows down and out ..becomes a horseshoe....very good :)
So that's how these things work, I've been trying to find a video explaining this for a long time so thank you.
thank you for watching :)
I am wondering, would this set up be able to repel another magnet?
the iron bars are magnetized by the nearest and stronger magnet, at a certain distance there would be repulsion but if contacted it would be attracted
これ使えば永久機関作れるじゃん?
how to make permanent magnet, not temporary magnet...
Just use the magnets in line and don't rotate them.
Check the link to the magnet supplier - each individual magnet is permanent - research the science of it.
YEAH B*TCH! MAGNETS!
а лучше всего, просто сделать видео с прямой ссылкой на ваш канал, так будет лучше, как вы думаете?
I generally consent to the publication of my content on social networks like facebook and instagram, but I prefer that my contents are not published on youtube. in any case I must know where they are published. write me in private my email is in the info tab of my channel
Well if I get those magnets I’m gonna pay off them and see which one is magnetic in my house so yeah that’s it 2:30
I have seen this type of thing marketed on a website, but I never thought someone could just make on by themselves! great video!
Thanks, someone has created and marketed similar products, much more efficient. When the switch is off the attraction is nothing, not even the iron filings are attracted, incredible
Can you find/calculate div for force needed for switching and general magnet force ?
So technically, I theoretically have a switch for the rail gun now 😂
very good
Добрый день, по вопросу авторских прав, хотел бы ваше видео со ссылкой на вас повесить на своем сайте. Это возможно?
I think this would be great in a robotic arm that grabs things.
PhoenixNoor or just an electro magnet
Who can you tell which is north and south
With a compass
where can i buy some of those little magneth blocks

Look in the description, there's a link
What is the weight of the Bench Vice? The magnets have strength of 6.3 kg, so total lift of 18.9kg. Looking at specs for similar Bench Vice, the weight seem to range around 31-40kg. The text on the FEA sim states "almost twice the power of a single magnet".
Although the switch is very cool, I"m more interested in increasing magnet performance when trying to minimize the overall weight of the system. And I"m curious as to how this arrangement increases the overall lifting performance of the three magnets.
Is it simply that the iron diverts/deflects/focuses/channels the magnetic field to the target area?
That seems to be what could be the basic principal of a tractor beam like in Star Wars or Star Trek. Very Cool!
Добрый день, мне очень понравилось видео, как можно с вами связаться по e-mail ?
you can find my email in the info tab of my channel
Does the magnet loose its power over time, how long will it last if it is switched on for long time
What marker did you use too write on the magnets? Is it permanent?
Wait a second. Isn't the real genius of this seemingly magical trick the special 180° pivoting collar? Where does one purchase this? Or did you make this somehow in your shop?
nice job, this one switch control we can operate lifting stuff up without electromagnetic.. I call it magnet lifter could use in construction job
What Happens If Try to Bring this closer to other Magnets
This swith behaves like a magnet when it is turned on and like a piece of iron when it is turned off. so you can not have a neutral behavior by approaching it to a magnet
Ye Good asmr man
Cool vid, one question does a magnet attracts another magnet when its off?
a magnet would still stick
This project is very good!
cul
Great video. I learned some new things today.
That is incredible. Well done. Thanks for putting in the images showing the fields.
thank you for watching :)

Putin is a killer! And fucking crazy pidor!
Now try it with three death magnets!
+Jstricks87 no one could turn the switch, too powerfull
Cool!
Guess that's how DTI bases work.
There is no video of iron nitride magnet supposedly more powerful than neodymium magnets and dosn't use any rare earth.
Did some one see the cut on his hand
what material are you cutting in the beginning ?
those were iron bars
nice
I'm not sure you should be cutting metal indoors
Nice build! Turn down the grinder volume next time.
+Tiberiu Nicolae thanks ... And sorry :)
Great video 😀😀
thank you 🙂
Magnetic Games I love this experiments with magnets
Wow, this is the simplest, best switchable magnet I've seen. What patent is this idea from?
wow its that work its strong
This is very nice method
Which software did you use for visualizing the magnetic field? Thank you.
in your first picture...you have the top two magnets ss/nn above each other...do you know what happened to the field there?...as you just created an inertia line :)..the field has spun into the gap underneath the top magnet...you created a new crossover inertial line.....did you know that?...either way, very clever..good job man.
thanks for the explanation, I often do not have time to explore topics in detail
Scientific Lee
You're being weird. It has nothing to do with what you just said.
1 word. A M A Z I N G
patent this and start selling
someone sells something similar already :-(

I needed it
hey ,that very imp info who has work on megnetic invensions,,,
Fantastico lavoro, complimenti. Ottimo per molti utilizzi
When are you going to build A ZPEF gun like in HL2 :) ??
Best explanation
He is a fluxing lunatic.
Very well explained 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great video! Is it possible to pick up & drop a magnet of similar strength instead of metal? Also, can this switch mechanism be reversed to repel another magnet instead of attract? Thanks!
thanks :). Yes, the device can repel a magnet but if a magnet sticks to the device you have to detach it manually. It can only be turned on and off, polarity cannot be inverted
Would be great for a hidden door.
Thanks
Great video my friend 🤩👍
yes, you turned it into a horseshoe magnet...very clever
thank you :)
nice
Hello sir, can you tell me which iron's bar(12×12×70) you used?
hey
nice video i m using this for a project . but can anyone help me out with this , :
how do i calculate the force this magnet can bear ,
i mean when its on ; how many kilos can it hold ,
hoping for an answer
thanks
It depends on which magswitch you took like magswitch jig 60 or magswitch jig 90. It can hold more than 70 kg if you choose a best one.
I rly like this video.
useful video.
Nice
The amount of logic is too much.. even i cant think as logical as that
Rip headphone users
sorry :-/
cazz bellissimo.. cosi si spiegano i mega magneti negli scassi .. o no ?
Sir magnet ka pta kesay chlay ga N kon sa or S kon sa hay plz
that's pretty smart and can be very useful
Thank you , Someone has already marketed similar ideas
good
magnetic switch will be very interressing :D
bien vue ! vous avez du voir ma vidéo ! bravo belle reproduction
I've been following your channel for a long time, thanks for the inspiration :)
amazing!
your small finger of lift hand was damaged
Small accident with the grinder .... could be worse :(
Can turn on Magnet attract turn off magnet Magnet ?
