I wanted a more cranky, easy to anger, warrior like odin was in the myths and old comics. That’s always been the thing with Odin. As good a warrior as Thor, but oooooooo so wise. They should have done this with him in this game instead of trying to match the character with the voice actor like wtf.

At first it does, but as the game progresses the thanos in his voice withers away. You can tell it isnt Josh by the time thor and kratos go hand and hand.

Freya and sindri character arcs are impeccable. Their voice actors had so much effort put into each word and it really does show
Sindri has a bunch of scenes where he doesn't speak a word but he still tells so much. That scene where he goes to fetch Draupnir was pretty damn good.
Man you ain't kidding they go above and beyond and evolved both characters so much it's astonishing to see sindri go from our lovable germaphobe to a broken dwarf who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty anymore

The way they designed most of the characters to look like their voice actors makes the cut scenes that much more believable. I just started a new game+ and remembering how much I loved this game in my first playthrough. Such an incredible piece of art.

@@summerwarmth7931 i mean, being worshipped for war is not necessarily out of fear. Real life spartans worshipped ares and prayed for his blessings. I don't think it was exclusively out of fear. Also there was that guy in ghost of sparta that took great care for his spartan weapons and waited for his return and stuff. I think kratos had at least some love as a god of war.
I get more of a gangster feel from his voice than authority and that rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not saying the VA is bad but reminds me of joe Pesci
Heimdall was an underrated character in this game the actor did a phenomenal job and was my favorite antagonist
If you had told me they took Heimdall and gave him almost Vergil-Esque quick draw I would not have believed you. But that performance was OUTSTANDING.
They really made killing him feel good. What a piece of shit character played with such an amazing performance.

Everything about this game left me absolutely speechless, and Sindri's grief, especially, shattered me.
The best part is that line is directly the reason kratos tells atreus to open his heart up near the end because of his reminder from Faye
I can also attest to the truth of this statement.
Awesome line, which instantly made me remember this line in Wandavision (probably the best written line in any of those Marvel products):
"What is grief, if not love persevering". Very similar sentiment

Personally, I like the original actor from the first trilogy more, and he has more style to dress too, his name is TC Carson and based on his voice they looked for someone who had a similar voice.

THere was no evolution of the character. What Christopher judge did to kratos development as a character is in the magnitude of galaxies. There is no point of comparison.
@@charlyrob7334 He didn't do anything, it's the writers who provide the material for the actors, in any case, the one to blame for Kratos being upset in the other games and not having evolution was them, not the voice actor.

Not in my opinion because it's a fundamental misunderstanding of Kratos. It implies that he's still piling up god corpses while shedding a tear now and then, when that couldn't be further from the truth. At that point in the story, the only god he's killed since leaving Greece is Baldur, and he only did that to protect Freya. In the past, he would've done it just for the hell of it, because Baldur inconvenienced him. And when he kills Heimdall, he only does it to protect Atreus. With both gods, he gives them a chance to walk away, so their deaths are their own choices, not his. And Kratos would've likely attempted to spare Heimdall even if he hadn't visited the Norns. He didn't try to spare Heimdall because they told him to, because he did the same thing with Baldur. They both made the choice to die, not him. He did everything he could to *not* kill another god. And besides, Kratos explicitly states he does not regret killing Baldur or Heimdall. He's not sad about their deaths. He just regrets that they forced him to kill them.

I love when Odin tells Kratos he cares about nobody but himself, since it’s a direct projection. Everything and everyone around Odin is a means to achieve his own goals, including his family whom he treats like an expendable set of tools.

@@user-io7lu2vm9m It's both. If all Odin knows of Kratos is his ancient legend, this allows him to project all his own sins onto the guy. He hears the old stories from the original trilogy, and he thinks he understands Kratos inside out, because all he has to understand anyone's actions are his own feelings. People like Odin don't have empathy, so he can't actually understand others, even if he wanted to. So he can only assume that, deep down, everyone is exactly like him.
My mind was blown when I learned that Ratatoskr was voiced by ProZD. I'm so proud that he got to voice a character in such an amazing game!

Just imagine... Del Toro, Peter Jackson and Denis Villeneuve... A trilogy of GOW.
First One: the asention of Kratos (or the creation of a monster). Villeneuve directing.
Second one: The Gods killer (and the fall of a warrior, maybe even you can end the movie with Kratos arriving to the north). Director: Peter Jackson.
Third one: The redemption (or the sheath of the warrior). Del Toro.
I´am not shure about the order of the directors, they are all amazing. Same actors you have in the game, same writers... Oh, what a glorious dream that is.
And you have dwarfs, black people, brown people, asian people, all the peoples!... This I.P. could be a Hollywood wet dream!. And yes, I know Hollywood and now Disney just ruin everithig... but they are the only ones who hace that kind of money and inertia.

Yes which is why I didn't like the Atreus leaving part. End game and DLC felt empty without him. I realllly hope they make a sequel and don't skip ahead a lot as I still would like him to be young. They can still do so much with this, especially if you use the mask/rift as a plot point.
Mimir's VA must be paid second or third highest because he told a hell lot of story for us.
For me, he’s definitely there up at the very pinnacle along with Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic.
For those who dont know, Mimir's VA also voiced Senator Steven Armstrong in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

I love how over the top Freya is played. Begins talking and is so furious that she is in the verge of screaming and then, speaks quietly as she meters her rage and comes to her conclusion. It works for her.
In my mind, i was reading it with her voice, and before i noticed, my mind was screaming furiously with a sudden imaginary weather change

Well it's 50+ hour of screen time as oppose to the 2 hour screentime of movies ofc this seem better because it has more time to flesh out characters.

during his first cutscene i recognized his voice immediately and at first i was like hmm that's an interesting choice, but he does the kind of subtly creepy quiet-but-furious old man very well
Agreed. It didn't work for everyone, but I can't imagine doing that character any other way. So smarmy, then chummy, then fatherly, then utterly cruel. The performance came together seamlessly. It all felt so natural.

Ryan Hurst as Thor was excellent. I didn't realize he was Gerry Bertier from Remember the Titans until I looked him up on IMDB. His performance in that movie made me tear up.
I like how most of the characters are designed like the VA's, say for the Sisters and Heimdall.
Oh and I guess Ratatöskr and some of the Dwarves.
Because they aren't voice actors, they are ACTORS who do full motion capture and voice work essentially fully playing the character as in any other visual medium.

I recognized Odin from the Good Doctor right away and the depth of his character was outstanding. I didn't realize other notable actors were in the game and now seeing them here, it makes sense why a lot of characters seemed so familiar.
He also played Eddie carr from lost world. He gets torn apart by the trex couple

I like the difference between Odin and Zeus, like instead of controlling people in the typical tyrant way he just kinda refuses to be taken seriously, downplays his own abilities and awareness, but most of all preys on people's flaws and promises them things, love how the king of the æsir just goes around acting like a dodgy car salesman

He was conniving and manipulative. He only ever showed his true colors to his close family. Like Thor. Honestly I think anyone who struggled with a parent with unreasonably high expectations and an abusive streak can completely relate to Thor, you know exactly what he’s thinking without even needing him to say it. Just take how quickly he was killed by Odin when he defied him as prime insight to how Odin truly treated Thor and what he thought of him.

Agreed! Not what I was expecting at all, but I love what they did with the character. Heimdall said it best when he said that someone truly powerful doesn't need a grand palace.

I especially love the creativity of how lots of the characters look just like their actors, but more godly and with more tattoos of course
Adam J. Harrington crushed his barricades as Sindri. His performance was greater than his earlier portrayals of Roy Earle in L.A. Noire and Tyson Latchford in Battlefield Hardline. And I gotta give it to Ryan Hurst and Scott Porter aswell. They did a phenomenal job.
It got to a point with that I even thought they changed the voice actor cause it sounded so different! Great performance and character arc for Sindri. It's perfect and heart-breaking as well
Maggie Robertson (voice actress for Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village) also had a small role as Skjóthendi the Unerring (the berserker in Niflheim).
What a cast! They all did such an amazing job bringing these characters to life.
And Erica Lindbeck was the voice of Jessie Rasberry from Final Fantasy VII Remake

I wasn't crazy about the model. We know well what she really looks like, so the model looked a tad more unnatural than most of the others. Perhaps because they were really trying to make it a perfect portrait, and it dipped slightly into the uncanny valley. Or maybe because the real actress has a slightly unreal aura to her.
Brett Dalton as Freyr… that one got me good. Idk how I didn’t recognize his voice instantly, I didn’t at all recognize him somehow yet he was my favorite character in agents of shield. Amazing job by everyone in this game

Troy Bakers vocal range is insane. I would love to see him in more live action roles as well. He’s a serious missed opportunity for anyone in the industry who doesn’t recognize that. Oh and his Joker is just as good as Mark Hamill.

Sunny Suljic, once again you nail it as Atreus. And that scene in 2:57 where he’s crying over his wolf Fenrir, I can most definitely relate. It’s moments like this I miss my sweet Samoyed Lily Pearl. For 14 years me and my family had her. She was a really good dog and she was the light of my life.
Danielle killed it as Freya in both games, easily the best performance across both (besides Kratos of course)
God of War is one of those games where I thoroughly enjoy hearing the different emotion in the voice acting. Everyone was so phenomenal at it and made the game experience so much better. I can't wait for the sequel already if there will be another one.
There won't be. At least not with Kratos in Norse mythology. Maybe Kratos in a different setting or Atreus looking for giants, only the developer knows at this point.
I’m a big fan of Richard Schiff from the good doctor tv show. Was really cool to see him play the voice of Odin.

I’ve been a fan since the PS2 games. The recent two are masterpieces in their own right. Masterfully executed voice acting, animation and story. I would have loved to see it continue longer.
I love how Santa Monica does Motion Capture to these characters. Makes most of the characters that don't have masks on look like the real actors/actresses that voice them.
I love how They designed the character to look somewhat like their Voice actors. Wish I could tell them, but thanks to the actors for their time in helping create a masterpiece. Absolutely love the game. Too many good things to say about it.

I expected Odin's design to look like Zeus' but with Viking aesthetics, since that's how most media tend to portray the All-Father. But here, he looks like an elderly wizard rather than a warrior, which fits a God who's obsessed with knowledge and magic.
I loved this version of Odin! He's not a fighter, he's got plenty of lackeys for that, so it makes sense that he wouldn't be built like one. He's also not intimidating, he looks sort of fragile and sounds genuine in his words. Despite knowing who Odin is and what he did, you almost want to trust him when he speaks. Fantastic character building there.

To me his mannerisms bring up an image of a soft-spoken, intelligent and manipulative crime boss. Which, coincidentally, is exactly who he is in the game.

I love that they made Odin into a soon to retire office manager. He has the I’ve-seen-this-shit-before way of handling himself without loosing the I-may-or-may-not-have-ulterior-motives in the background.
It's more in line with the actual lore. In real Norse mythology Odin was rarely portrayed as a warrior. He was always about seeking knowledge and learning all there was to know about everything. So just like in the game, when it came time for action and violence, 9 times out of 10 he would delegate the task to one of his many many children.

Dang they went all star with the cast for this, above all seeing deborah ann woll is surprising and impressive, love everything she's in and to have her in such a masterpiece of a game is truly the icing on the cake.
They really did just get an all-star TV cast and I love it. Especially Deborah-Ann being Faye brings back memories of Daredevil

I won't get tired of saying this: the way his voice changes to the point it sounds like a completely different person, what an amazing job the voice actor did there. You could feel the pain in Sindri's voice

I'll say it again: we, as gamers, need to start changing what we call actors in video games. They're not just voice actors, they're PERFORMERS. They didn't just stand in a booth and record lines. They poured their soul into these motion capture performances (like Christopher Judge/Kratos). Heck, many of these are movie/TV actors as well.
Anyway, what a cast. Amazing game. I JUST KNEW that Emily Rose (Elena from Uncharted) is Syf. Her voice is so unique and recognizable.

Voice actors unfortunately don’t get enough credits for their work in video games. A lot of iconic voice actors got replaced without even knowing they got replaced. This never happens in the realm of animated movies or TV shows.
They are amazing but again they aren't well known unless ppl make more such revealing videos however ppl like Troy Baker are instantly recognized from their voice
