So turning songs on their head has kinda become my thing, I can’t take too much credit for this one though as this is a cover of an arrangment by Sarah Cothran so make sure to check out the original version of this song here ! • Love Story - Taylor Sw... I did however throw in some lyric changes at the end and add some spoken lines for dramatic effect just for funzies!
As I mentioned before I’m taking a little break from my ‘Disney characters as villains’ series so that I can just have some fun and cover some songs that I love! In the meantime I am preparing the next lot of villain songs so you won’t have to wait too long. Until then I really hope you enjoy the covers that will be coming out! I feel like the original feels like an innocent love story while this one feels more like the actual story of Romeo and Juliet. Great singing as usual Lydia :)
The whole time I was listening I was hoping there wasn't going to be a twisted or sad ending and I'm glad that didn't happen.

I love how this version of the song is portrayed similarity to the original Romeo and Juliet story. In modern culture, Romeo and Juliet tends to mean true love, but everyone forgets that they both end up dead in the end
It’s ironic because Shakespeare made it as a satire to how stupid teenagers are and how impulsive they can be. 😂
Shakespeare only wrote the play (in one drunken night) because his patron demanded that he wrote a teenage romance like the audience wanted. So he made a yo mama joke filled story about the stupidity, and often disastrous, outcome of teenage romance. People don't seem to understand that this isn't romantic, it's a comedy that ends in tragedy. It itself is an oxymoron...
And how Romeo was dating and courting her cousin then switched next to her the moment he saw her
I never saw it as romantic as well 😂 always found their deaths pointless and when I call a couple Romeo and Juliet,I mean they would likely end up burning everything to the ground with their ‘love’

I can picture it now: Juliet holding Romeo at gunpoint and giving him a ring, her silent message clear as day: "Marry me or die."
Also, when she says she "talked to her dad," she really means she told him she was marrying Romeo whether he liked it or not and put a bullet in his head when he tried to stop her.

Maybe it's a murder-suicide? Juliet's father didn't approve of her dating Romeo, so she told him she was going to see Romeo one last time to end things in person. She just didn't say *how* she would end it. If they couldn't be together in life, they would be together forever in death. And the white dress is for her funeral.

"Sir, I promise you, I won't break her heart."
"I'm not scared for her."
The differences in the way you perceive the lyrics by merely changing it to a minor key is incredible

I love the details of the background dialogue in the vocals, gives the lyrics a different "romantic" scenario which it's just unrequited love with a huge situation of denial about how problematic Romeo is.
You sure? It looks like Juliette was the one who was problematic. "Juliette don't" could have been Romeo begging for his life and "Stay away from Juliette" sounded like a warning because of how dangerous she is. She wanted her happy ending so she forced him by gun point
@@ILovePanta123 sorta like that, I think it's a mutual toxic relationship but I feel like Juliet becomes obsessive, in other words, problematic but Romeo had signs from others for being problematic too, from the start.
I also got that vibe!! He picked the wrong (emotionally unstable) girl to toy with-and she got him back in the end. From the tone of Juliet's father's voice, he came across as overly controlling and quick to anger, which could make Juliet more vulnerable to Romeo's charms as he would appear to be the "prince" that could save her. I enjoy analyzing problematic characters and media, so this is just my interpretation :)

I'm a fan of Taylor Swift (not enough to pay that ticket price though lol), my favorite part is that she writes (or co-writes) all of the songs she's ever performed. I don't like all of her music personally, but I have a lot of respect for someone who puts that much effort and dedication into her career.

With that ending line of "I lined up a shot" makes you really wonder who Juliet's dad was really trying to protect
He was trying to protect Juliet from the montagues (Romeo’s family)
Damn this version feels like everyone is warning Romeo away from Juliet, not for her sake, but for _his_ .
This Juliet feels like a delusional stalker who's imagined their "love story" and determined to get her happy ending ... at ANY cost.

A sentence I wrote:

All I can interpret from this is either-
Romeo was killed and Juliet wants to avenge her love. Or Romeo was actually a terrible person and she wants revenge. Like maybe he used her for his own benefit.
Personally I prefer the first idea cuz I’m a sucker for tragic love stories

I had a different interpretation, which is Juliet desperately trying to convince Romeo to not give up and fight for their love.
I think it was a "marry me or die" situation. He was a good guy but SHE freaked him out so she forced him to marry her or die

@SeonaSara What are you talking about? She's been singing to Romeo as if he was another person, she never once referred to herself as Romeo. Also, she does say my dad. Even when she says "I talked to my dad, and I picked out a white dress." Again, throughout the entire she is with Romeo, her father chases him away. Romeo is another person, not her.

I feel like (especially at the end) the minor key with the slightly switched lyrics at the end makes the song feel like Juliet fell madly in love with someone she just met while Romeo kinda didn’t at all feel the same, so Juliet instead went out and kept desperately trying to pursue Romeo, even going as far as attempting to force him to marry her and making everyone go along with it. It kinda gives a nice spin to the classic song/love story between Romeo and Juliet and I love it!
Not a really a Taylor Swift fan...but WOW! Your voice when you do these "villain" covers, always brings me chills and gives me goosebumps. Keep up the amazing work!

Just a very, very quick question. When you say "I lined up a shot" does that mean the Juliet, like, pulled out a shot of alcohol or that she is now pointing a gun at Romeo and threatening him into marrying her??? Either way it gives this horribly suspenseful air and I am loving every second of it! Good job Lydia!

Carefully examining the details of gun reveals that the safety is off and her finger is tightening on the trigger...

"Lining up a shot", as T.Swift put it, is probably a reference to pool or billiards, but I like both of your alternate meanings! 😁😈

I can almost imagine Juliette was cursed to be a gorgon and fell in love with mortal romeo. Everyone knew it meant trouble and wanted to keep her safe, but he left when he discovered her secret. Mad with grief and heartbreak, she left her ivory tower and hunted him down. The obsessive love and insane grief masked his perpetual expression of horror into ultimate love in her eyes as she turned him to stone so they could be togetter forever.
i Feel like in this version the dad is saying "stay away from Juliet" because the father knows how extreme Juliet can get and he genuinely wanted to warn him

Why does her voice sound so good and convey feelings so well?
I can imagine this being sung by the ghost of a nobles daughter.
She died in a fire before the night of her wedding, but her fiance survived because he left the morning of because he was following someone who threatened to set fire to the house.
He comes back home to the ashes after getting rid of the person just to find out that they had set fire to it anyways and finds the grieving ghost of his beloved.
The twist at the end, YES! I love the covers of this song in minor key, but you blew this out if the water. Fantastic work.

As someone who always saw Romeo and Juliet as a stand-up comedy play, I appreciate all the different ways other people interpret it!
I like to think that "pulled out a ring" implies a ring sight, therefore she's aiming at him through a rifle - her father's rifle. The two were in puppy love, she fell for him completely, but he broke her heart sometime during the wedding, manipulated her, and then tried to flee town. And now she's here, and going to put him down for everything he's done, and wear that same white dress at his funeral.

i gotta admit..Taylor Swift is my absolute idol and I'm such a huge Swiftie so i was kinda skeptical at first but I was very surprised in a good way!! I love this and I love the dialogue in the background it gives it memory vibes almost like she's reliving the story!!!

She flies into a rampage fueled by insanity, murdering everyone who ever uttered a word against her marriage, but is stopped by Romeo. He begs her to come to her senses, but it's too late. Juliet is so far gone that she doesn't recognize her lover, murdering him as well. She is finally caught by the police, shot onsite, and is no more. A tragic end to a tragic love story. After Juliet killed herself, a curse was formed, Juliet as a vengeful spirit influencing those who like her are unable to be with the one they love, to go through any lengths to be with them.

Juliet is waiting on the wall for Romeo to come. Long enough for doubt to creep in. She looks up to the clear night sky as she feels the ring in her pocket, she was planning on proposing tonight. "Does he love me?" she asks herself. "Yes." she says. "Don't doubt him now. He will come." she reassures herself, as she continues to wait.
Juliet waits till the wee hours of the night before she hears footsteps. She turns quickly and sees Romeo approaching. She laughs a little in relief. "You made it." she states. Romeo gives her a soft smile. He seems a little tired. "Is everything alright?" Juliet asks him. Romeo waves her off as he takes his usual position on the wall. She looks at him in concern before fingering the ring in her pocket. "We've quite a long way, haven't we?" Juliet asks.
Romeo shrugs, a noncommittal grunt comes from him. Juliet looks down, her gut telling her to not. She ignores the feeling and pulls out the ring, presenting it to Romeo and proposes. Romeo looks at Juliet in shock before looking away, guilt on his face. "I'm sorry." he responds.
Juliet, still smiling, feels her heart shatter. She slowly pulls the ring back as a tear falls down her cheek. She brings the ring close, clutching it to her chest. "That's okay." she says, and walks away. Romeo looks after her, feeling something is off, but ignores the feeling.
The next day, the castle is in an uproar. Juliet is missing. They search high and low for her, but can't find her. They find a note in her room.
'I am going to marry Romeo. I love and want to be with him.' it reads.
But Romeo is still here. So what happened to Juliet?
Well that took a turn I wasn't expecting. Well done.

One of the darkest elements of Romeo and Juliet that not nearly enough people bring up is that Romeo is 21 and Juliet is like 12-13. It's not so much a tragedy about star crossed lovers but rather a horror story about a predator grooming an innocent child and they both wind up dead because of it. :(
That's terrifying. I always thought she was about 16 or 17, and he was 17 or 18, so still an age gap but not nearly as big as what you said.
