That dishwasher is a thing of beauty. I remember that older dishwashers used to have different colored panels hiding behind the front panel. So if you bought a white diswasher, and you had black (or avocado green, or poppy red in the 60s) appliances, you could take the front panel off the dishwasher and there would be other color panels in there so you could match all your appliances .

Elizabeth, if the cupboards are solid and in good condition, then maybe just some touch up with paint for the time being. Bill could add a sheet of good quality plywood to the bottom of the sink cupboard too to spruce it up. I have an 1875 farm home that even though cupboards were installed twenty years ago, some shelves needed replaced shortly after that. I would definitely paint the inside area under the sink, maybe to match your kitchen walls. The area under your sink, if kept organized and pretty will give you a good feeling every time you open the cupboard door. Love you both. Thank you for the tutorial on the dishwasher, I never owned one, but I’m sure happy to watch Elizabeth get a new one. Have a wonderful day. I wish I lived near you because I would love to help you work on your home.

Animals Are Our Angels Thank you. I researched a while back on how to mix my own milk paint, too complicated, I conceded I’m not that crafty. I have a 1905 child’s sleigh I used when I was growing up in 1955+ and I stupidly removed the blue milk paint when I started refinishing vintage items for my home. I bought some chalk paint and had to work with it to try to get it to look like sleigh originally looked, but ended up using some min wax stain to tone down blue. I learned from my mistake to leave well enough alone unless the item has eight coats of paint over solid oak, then it is getting stripped...lol

My oldest son bought me a new dishwasher (with 2 bottle jets, love it!) for Christmas one year. It sat in my kitchen for almost 2 years still in the box. I was terrified to try to install it myself. (Plus the drain pipes under the sink needed work) Finally, I had a plumber come in and do the work. Cost me $200 BUT no leaks and they hauled the old NASTY washer away! Yay! Love my efficent, QUIET dishwasher!

Pleased that you are adjusting so well after the big move. Just a personal note, I like your old wood cabinets. They give a warm character to the tiny farmhouse feel. Serviceable but not glitzy.
Now, what can you do about the virus, the changing climate, the possible shortage of essential food, the locusts infestation, and the lack of leadership throughout the world? Stay tuned folks! My dishwasher is a Dishlex- it was the cheapest one when I bought it, but it’s been better than previous more expensive ones such as a Bosch and Ariston. Ariston was the worst, and didn’t last the warranty, but I was thrilled to see it go.

Hi Bill, we just got a new dishwasher from Lowes as well. We had to create a space for it because our 1940 Burbank Ca. house did not have one. We also got new cabinets. Just a side note, before you buy new cabinets think about sanding and painting the ones you have if they're solid wood. We wish we would have because our new ones are particle board. They are beautiful on the outside but the quality just keeps getting worse. Some new knobs as well as new paint is what we wish we would have done. Also, now that you showed us how to attach the dishwasher, we are going to attempt to do that. Thank you for the informative and interesting video.

Well done there Bill looks nice there in your kitchen. Our kitchen cabinets are so similar to yours. Our home was built in 1942 and was what was termed a starter home for the ship yard workers at the time. We still have the same cabinets, painted many times over. Never had a dishwasher (I am the dishwasher)! Just the two of us, not much visitors so really have gotten along fine without one. There has been times when one would have been nice but we managed. Enjoy your nice kitchen. So uplifting for your Elizabeth and Pop oh yes Leo too!!!!!! You sure are a handy man.

Bill you have done a lot of work to the house but I know it is not finished, it will get done one project at a time, you guys have not been there long and accomplished so much all while moving from several states away and then moving your dad. I think what you have done so far is amazing. Thanks for sharing the install, we can all learn something from this.

Well done. A challenge that's for sure. How different things are in different parts of the world. Iv installed many different appliances in my time in Scotland but would need a different approach completely bearing in mind what you have just shown us... Pleased for you both. I use my dishwasher more than my washing machine and I am single. The absolutes of life, a dishwasher that is for sure, from my point of view...
    Kindness your way

The dishwasher is beautiful!!!! Gosh Bill, I wish you lived closer! I have 3 toilets that need to be installed however, the plumber wants to charge me 250.00 per toilet! So much money! I could do it but I am tiny and cannot move or lift these toilets! May God bless you, your precious Elizabeth and your sweet Dad! Blessings from Susan in Canada! PS: my ex fiancé and I used to give five families who were very poor a new kitchen for free. It was always me who hooked up the dishwasher and the fridge and the stove etc. There’s no other feeling in the world than being able to give to those in need. I’m so glad that you got a new dishwasher. Once again my love to all.!! Susan

Animals, do you have home depot near you? we just had them install 2 new toilets this past Monday. Total cost for both inc price of toilets and install was a little over 600 US. They were very professional and we are very pleased with them. Also, that price included the installers picking them up and bringing them to us.

Also included in the price was removal and haul away of the old toilets 😀

I was feeling for you with every little 'surprise' as you tried to remove the old dishwasher... feeling for your knees and elbows as you had to get down low and reach the nooks and crannies. I just had to laugh when you unceremoniously dropped it onto the lawn. Thanks for keeping it real!

Oh my goodness. I think that is the exact model of dishwasher that I just replaced! It’s hard telling how long it had been in this house but it has seen better days when I moved in!
Caught that in the second viewing of this video!

Maybe the reason the old dish washer did not clean the top rack ,drain line needs to loop above the washer on some models or water will pump out.

Love your video's Bill.. thanks for sharing your knowledge, how-to's and diy's. Have a wonderful day. 💖

Oh my gosh a dishwasher! I know you’re happy about this. I lived for years without a dishwasher. It is my most hated chore doing dishes. Probably because one of the biggest problems is I cook and bake most of our food from scratch (or did). I have been going through a time here.
I mean I can’t even tell you the amount of dishes pots and pans I could make in one days time. It was a lot. Gosh I hate doing dishes. I only have a half of a size dishwasher now. To tell you the truth. If I had a big size I put my pots and pans in there. I don’t care.
