Do you guys realize that your great love and respect for each other is a teaching tool for many couples? You're refreshing to watch, and the display of passive affection for each other is so evident of your love. Bill, the way you respect Elizabeth is a true blessing for her. Thank you for sharing your life with us, along with your knowledge of home repairs and building. Happy Mothers Day Elizabeth.🌻 What a blessing to be close to share your day in part with Barry and the family. God sure paved a wonderful way to where you are now. God Bless. 💝

I laughed so hard at Bill's facial expressions when Elizabeth said she wanted to put fairy houses and frog statues in the garden. That was a Kodak moment Bill. Elizabeth is so excited that she can hardly contain her enthusiasm. The move to Virginia was truly a blessing in many ways. Keep up the good work Bill. Love you all... Pops and Leo too. Happy mother's day Elizabeth and Molly 💐

My mother had my father, who was a carpenter, to build little houses in our garden. She told us stories about "the small" that lived there and watced over our garden. When I asked who took care of "the small" she said: "the greatest of all, God" Oh how I miss my parents. I just love your videos.

Bill, I’m also a reluctant gardener. I do it to help supplement our food and having a prepper’s mindset I think it’s necessary. Plus there is nothing like a homegrown tomato! Bill, I also want to say ‘thank you’ for being a loving husband. You are definitely a great mentor to others. God’s love definitely shines through you both!!! God bless❤️

Since I retired 2 years ago gardening has been my favorite hobby. I love seeing the joy of my labor. I love sitting on my front porch with a cup of coffee, listening to the water fountain with a view of my beautiful flowers, and plants. We have the neighbor's son next door who is like a grandson to us water my plants when we go on vacation. The neighbors don't mind because we watch their home when they go on vacation. If I had more land I would grow vegetable too. Enjoy the fruits of your labor, Elizabeth

I live in a city, last year we turned our front yard into raised bed gardens, this year we have added a new garden to it and arches to be able to grow vertically for beans and peas etc. We have also been putting in berries and grapes in back. I know the neighbors were wondering what we were up to last year when we had everything torn apart, but we have gotten nothing but compliments when it was full of veggies. This year as people pass they have expressed how much they are looking forward to seeing the gardens flourish. I always plant enough to supplement our family's food AND share with others. We also have planted two of the raised beds at the local school strictly to give away to families in need. We have plans to do this to as many beds at the school as possible, any garden bed at the school, we will fill with plants to give to neighbors. I live by the idea that "we are not goats, we can't eat the grass, it is a waste of time and resources."

Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you". (Genesis 1:29). The best part of gardening is watching that miracle of a seed turning into delicious food.

I live in town and a couple of houses down from me have a garden in their front yard. It would be a great idea if everyone would plant a garden in their yar no matter where they live. Not only have food but it would be good exercise for those that are able to work in it. Have a blessed weekend.

Back when I was in school we were taught about "subsistence" farming that was the way of the life in China. It was taught as a negative practice. If you grew your own food it meant you were poor people. How sad that thinking is.
It would be wonderful if everyone could grow SOME food for themselves instead of being dependent on massive food conglomerates for everything.
Small family farms have been devoured by these conglomerates. That is heartbreaking.

Hi Bill and Elizabeth, Thank you so much for this wonderful video. I am with you Elizabeth...I love to garden too. But I completely understand Bill’s concern. The good news is that you have family nearby to help with the garden once you start traveling. Elizabeth, you said something that was very relevant as to what to do if there were severe food shortages. I wanted to share that during the Great Depression and WWII, my mom’s family banned together with their neighborhood. My grandmother had a big garden and fruit trees, another lady had chickens, and another a milking cow, etc. They all bartered with what they had and everyone survived. Thank you again for all you share!! You two are wonderful. Love and God Bless, Mary ❤️🤗❤️

    I love your garden videos.
My husband sees gardening the same way as you Bill and I LOVE gardening!!! However, being disabled I have limitations. I have raised beds but not as tall as yours. I have a 5 gallon bucket I sit on (I'm only 4' 9.5" tall) and tools that work for me. The walker is too much trouble to move around between the beds. I made 2 pvc canes which I use at the same time that really help me get around the garden. I also have a cart that fits between the beds.
I've planned the big bang in the garden. I have as many veggies as possible to mature at the same time. I'll then dehydrate, pressure can and freeze. Usually mid summer. This is what I need my husband to help me with the most. I did this very successfully in my younger years.
Because we have limited space, I buy short season varieties as much as possible. After the initial harvest I'll add compost to the soil the transplants will go into, and plant the fall/winter garden that I have growing in flats to be transplanted.
I was harvesting eggplant 2 years ago in early November! However, last year they weren't able to mature. This is why we built the greenhouse. We have sun flowers, Ancho Pablano peppers in there, tomatoes, and soon the eggplant will be big enough to transplant into 3 gallon containers in there. The sweet banana peppers are slow growing but they will be in there too.
Husband cut me 6" lengths of 2" pvc pipe and this year I will have parsnips and carrots started in these so I can actually transplant them mid summer. It's an experiment that I believe will work. I'm always experimenting, lol. So hopefully, that pvc started planting will be mature fresh winter storage.
Last season, after the garlic harvest, I gave the garden a rest considering it the seventh year (according to Bible) and had some productive containers. So this year I could hardly wait to grow!!

My husband and I are 70 and have been married 30 years. We enjoy your videos and your relationship. You both have great energy and smiles. You are both special ... I think it's the "goodness" we feel about you .... and it is uplifting to watch your videos. Thank you for the Light you bring to the World! With that said - I'm going to be the wet blanket in the comments section. I also have a Bill - somewhat like yours Elizabeth. I would like to say to your Bill: Your wife waited many years for the opportunity to garden, and her joy and happiness about this is very evident. I think a whole video of your negative comments over-shadowed the beautiful gardening gift that you created for Elizabeth, and dare I say, you stole her JOY. You built her this beautiful space, then turned around and lifted your leg and peed on it. Sometimes things are better left unsaid. You are her HERO - so puff up your chest and be just that. :) XOXO

I dehydrate now. Freeze and can. No body will rob my garden I live in the backwoods and nobody really can find me. I guess Its up to the ideas we all have. I am also putting in a medicinal tea garden. I traveled 1600 miles last summer and no thanks. I am a home base person..Good for Elizabeth, very nice setup.. Back to my work. God Bless

This hose is then connected to a timer that is connected to the tap (sipgot). I would lay the hose across the four beds when you go away. People here have holiday homes and are away for weeks on end. My garden is late for our area, but we are prepping for fall, which means planting in August. We are buying lettuces, spinach, kale at the store, which has had produce even when shelf food items were out. When the expiration dates come up on them, my daughter puts them in the freezer and uses them for smoothies. That’s what she’ll do with garden greens, too.

You both remind me of the farmers that helped me and my little brother in 1984. I was 12, he was 9. Our mother had been gone for a couple of weeks and we were hungry. We walked along way with pillow cases and he was supposed to look out and I was going to take something from only big gardens. Long story short, we got caught and the gentleman and lady helped us out. Feed us and drove us home with enough food for a week. We were grateful.

Our meat plant is opening back up. It was shut down as 100 of the 300 workers there came down with the virus. The plant has been shut down for a month and sanitized and all workers were kept at home for 3 weeks and will be tested before they are allowed back in again. So happy. The shelves were looking pretty bare of meat here. Although many of the cattle farms around here were offering up their cattle for sale and would have some of the smaller meatpacking plants processing them. So glad you have your garden. I bet Bill will really appreciate it when the produce starts coming to the house for consumption and so will Pops. Blessings to you both and Pops!

I thought of you guys because here in my part of Virginia we are having terrible weather, going to get way down in temps tonight and tomorrow. I hope you guys don't lose anything you have just planted. I am covering my peonies and lillies. I sure hope everything is not hurt.

This is a little off subject but I wanted to say what an inspiration you are Elizabeth. I had a car wreck January 5th and have been pretty much home bound since. ( just practicing for the lockdown😅) Your positive attitude and never give up actions have helped me do the same. It is so nice to have a place to go that is positive with such nice people. I just wanted you to know that you both are appreciated. Stay safe💖

Watching you two at your new place is like two kids in a candy store. Living rural and gardening, enjoying nature is good for the soul and health. I have a suspicion that the garden will get much bigger next year. The covers on the raised beds are genius. To keep thieves out of the garden, old timers had a few large butt chewing dogs and they had rock salt loads in their shot guns. It won't kill you, just tear some hide off and make you miserable. It's fun watching you two. Thanks for sharing.

We had snow today in northeastern Ohio, wah! Used to be you could plant frostfree on mothers day. (happy mums day!) I have a plaque that says you are closer to gods heart in a garden than anyplace else on earth.

I love the fairy garden idea. If you find some little things, do it! I have a little tiny stuffed bear in my kitchen cupboard with the coffee cups. Just to be different and do something out of the ordinary.

    *****TIP*****
Dry eggshells in an oven at 200 degrees for 10 minutes then crush. After they cool I keep in jars. Sprinkle at the base of plants to prevent blossom rot.

y'all are so sweet! Thanks for your wise advice. I wish I wanted a garden . Like Bill, I just think of it as work . But I can see the necessity of it in these days we are living in . I'm just so tired from my job each day , I don't have much left when I get home. God bless you both.

our son just put up a 6×6? green house and made his own hydroponic set up growing all he needs for family of 4 of lettuces and small pots of tomatoes. it has been up for 2 weeks now and he has had three meals out of it. 3 or 4 levels high. pvc pipe capped on the ends, 3 inch holes drilled in along the length. slices of pool noodle to support plants. it is working so well we will be doing it.

I hear you about the "Reluctant Gardener". I am already in a battle with the pest eating my plants, the sun is too much and I have to find ways to already particularly diffuse the sun, constantly checking things and watering ($$$), and on and on. Still, if things go bad, I will have a little fresh food and some to share with my family.

That's great.Remember to save all your food scrabs(minus anything that has greece)to throw out in the garden.Even pour out cooled water used from boiling eggs or potatoes (gives off vitamins to soil)
