You can make an adapter that fits into the spark plug hole so you can run 50psi of shop air into your combustion chamber so your valves stay sealed while the engine is built.

This build series is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I have an '04 EP3 Si I was planning on doing a straight K24 swap on...but now I've decided to do K20/K24 turbo build. I've done my fair share of D/B/H swaps and involved in 1 K24A2 EG hatch build, so I've been researching my EP3 K-turbo build since I bought the car 2 years ago. I know the basics and I'm hoping that your build series will fill in the gaps of what I don't know. #staymotorvated #staycommitted

I'm looking for a k24 engine to built up. But I can't find, ebay is too risky I guess. I live in Germany and there not too many people who interested in swapping engines and all.

I was going to sell my base and save up to buy a type s but realized I could just build motor to make the same power roughly and it would be more satisfying to tell people it's just a base 😊👍

Rebuilding a K-series head is expensive af. It's gonna take me a few years to buy all of this stuff, but I'm building the K24 out of my moms old 2003 CR-V with forged internals (h-beam rods, stroker crank, 11.5:1 compression pistons, etc.), and using the head from a junkyard 2005 Civic SI, all going into a 2005 EM2 (Civic EX) with the knuckles/brake system from the CR-V as well to get the car into 5-lug and disk brakes on all four corners. I've already got the CR-V K24 and knuckles (replaced bearings in knuckles), new cv axles, in the car and it runs and drives, with new polyurethane bushings throughout, new end links, rack ends, ball joints, etc., custom delrin engine mounts, aftermarket rear control arms, lowered on some Skunk2 coilovers, Skunk2 adjustable camber bars in the rear. Now I'm just buying a bit at a time to rebuild the engine and head and get all the bolt-ons I need, like fuel pump, regulator, timing chain tensioner, short shifter, all the bits for the transmission (bearing and seal kit, all new bolts, etc..) shit really adds up if you want to make it solid. I'm not building this thing to be a race car. I don't want to have to rebuild everything every time I get on it. I just want it to be fast and reliable on the street, and that costs a lot of money.

Thanks for doing this. It will probably save me and many others some mistakes. I look forward to the rest of the series. I will definitely continue to follow this build with all of the information you provide. Maybe at the end you could do a total cost and show every special tool you do or do not need. Good stuff.

These videos are helping me build the courage to do a build by myself. I have an 09 si. I plan on building the head, block (possible k24a2), transmission and turbo. Need to gather a parts list for my goal of a reliable 400whp daily. In the end, I want the car to drive and look like it should've came from the factory boosted. I've always done my own work, but never worked on the inside of a motor or transmission. It's intimidating, but I really want to learn.

I recommend getting a bunch of rope pieces, wadding them up, putting them in 'balls' under the head at the valves and then using a tie down strap to secure the head tightly to your workbench. The rope is soft, won't hurt anything and I found, when using something similarly described, it was kind of difficult to get it exactly under the valve to stop it moving. I ended up doing what I described and it went like so easy. There are different thicknesses for tie downs-get a very thin width one so you don't have to move it much at all during the cylinder to cylinder movements.

Love the video. Very good information. One thing I would advise anyone in the future who's watching though, don't use supertech valve seals. Please use the OEM ones. The supertech a notorious for premature failure. You don't want to have to do the job twice...

Nice video, i'm in the process of rebuilding my 205k mile k20z3 and this will be very useful. I need to get me some of those intake manifold studs, I had my starter replaced a few winters ago and the butt munches cross threaded the nut on one of the studs for the intake manifold, so I had to spend hours carefully cutting off the nut with a dremel. Gouged my RBC slightly but could buff most of it out with a grinding stone. The engine's been a tank and only issue really is crazy oil consumption. Ordered a manley valvetrain kit, all new intake and exhaust valve guides, valves etc.
The amount of shitty and non-metric home depot bolts I've found on this car during it's teardown has been disconcerting. If it's not a flange bolt/nut YOU'RE WRONG!

I built a K20A2 back when they just came out, threw in Sk2 stage 2 cams, springs, and it kept stripping the teeth on the timing chain tensioner, I went through 4 tensioners and then finally took the cams out. Toda was the only company selling an aftermarket tensioner at the time, got fed up so didn’t even try it. I’d upgrade the chain tensioner if I were you.

Muh dood i asked for this video series long time ago and you said you ll do it! God bless my bro ❤👏☺
Just some questions, is 5w30 best oil to use for the setup? , do you have to use an adjustable cam gear for the k20 k24 build? Do you use a k20a/k20a2 or k20z4 head? And k24a2 block? Is it ok to use k24a3 block? (From european accord cl9) i also want to know what kind of ecu programming you use? Do i have to replace pistons or original can withstand 260HP? Sorry for asking so much but i am really motivated to build a frank engine, thanks :)
