- I definitely miss the raw and fun times between Andrew McUtchen, Adrian Barker, and George Bamford, and In this clip from the full video, I ask Andrew McUtchen the question we all want to know: Why did About Effing Time end?
I had the opportunity to have a chat with Andrew McUtchen, Founder of Time & Tide (timeandtidewatches.com), co-host of the "About effing time" podcast with Adrian Barker and George Bamford. Watch the full video here: • Chatting with Andrew M...

It didn’t end. It’s on hiatus. And when it comes back? It’ll be about effing time.
I’ve got my fingers crossed. Loved watching these guys so when I got the chance to do a 30+ minute chat with Andrew it was a real “fan boy” moment for me. Now I know how swifties would feel if they got to talk to her.
I hope to GOD that they do come back in a limited fashion. I get it dedicating the time and resources but shit man !!!!! I think the problem with content today is people inhale it as it’s made and you’re expecting more and more. I would be lucky to get a hand full of episodes in a year. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Tbh I don't think the show ended on a good note. I am 100% sure that it was fully bankrolled by Bamford and when he realised that it doesn't do anything for his business he pulled the plug, not even bothered to bring everyone together for a final episode. You can tell that both Adrian and Andrew were a bit aghast and disappointed in their last video(s).
What about the Christmas special party live together in front of friends and supporters? That was the final episode.
@@acknastyit wasnt an episode. it was an embarrassment and nothing else
George was a real problem on the show, because he has the most money and clout, yet he’s completely unable to give an authentic opinion that doesn’t promote his business interests
It felt like the other two had to cuck to George
Everything was a bamford something.
Or something snoopy
Ah, I’m going to dislike myself for this but… Real talk.
The Ingenieur just isn’t as good as he claims (to me).
I had no issue with George although was a little diva’ish for a middle-aged man.
Exactly, and wouldn’t shut up about TAG
Sorry to say this, but I always thought it felt awkward. There were too many egos in a very small room. There was too much talking and not enough listening. And it's the listening and reacting that makes engaging content.
I loved the show, but the masked watchmaker made me cringe because it was such a blatant rip-off of top gear.
The unscripted after-show shows were great. The scripted “main” shows were awkward. They forced it a bit too much: what they needed was just to do a looser behind the scenes podcast like MKBHD does with his team between the main RUclips videos.
I totally agree, I thought it was awkward. For 3 'friends' the chemistry was poor. I'd go as far as saying they didn't like each other 😂 I have a feeling this is the underlying truth. Far better content out there so no loss.
Totally agree. Cringeworthy. On their own they may (or may not) be sound enough blokes but together - total pumpers.
I disagree completely, that's what made it feel like Top Gear!
Loved about effing time. Three dudes who clearly got along well and loved watches. The magic was it looked like they were just hanging out and having fun. I completely get being tapped out and raising kids. I really hope they occasionally get together as it was watch nerd heaven.
@@SaintWill70i struggle listening to him
@@SaintWill70 true story
Way too many assumptions and way too much negativity in this comment section here! I enjoyed the show!
It didn't speak to the average watch guy, they looked down on the average collector.. to cool for school
George I think was the only one who did that. I don't think it was intentional but he can really have whatever he wants unlike the other 2
I don't agree with that at all.
I realized early on that I was not the audience for their content. I can't afford multiple expensive watches to rotate. And I work for a living.
Maybe we should do a segment on this channel to talk about watches in all price ranges
I also have a modest job, but 1) they sometimes talked and showed affordable pieces and 2) the expensive stuff can still be appreciated from afar, like art.
I can't afford Ferraris or Porsches, but I still watched Top Gear....
@@Snakebloke Of course you did, they shilled the Dacia Sandero. :D
I think they are better individually - I never got any chemistry and it felt a little forced - each person so dominant a presence that they cancelled each other out - in my opinion
Family first. Makes perfect sense. Best wishes.
Agree 100% , family comes first.
Putting it out for free, initially and then locking it behind a paywall one day is what killed it for me
The only podcast i ever paid for. I loved it. They rocked! Really miss the show
Didn't know it ended. That's good to hear.
The whole channel vibe, just seemed disengaged from reality. Wasn’t for me. However Adrian’s channel is a work of art. 👍👍
They are the best. I want them to do more.
A chat for a narrow specific group of people
It ended when they showed up at watches and wonders looking like pratts
And they wondered why they got thrown out?
And here I was in Australia just yesterday wearing my “About Effing Time” hoody! 🥺🥰🤣😎👍🏼🇦🇺
Hi from Sydney
It was the closest to the Top Gear of watches there has been. Maybe we'll get a few specialist in the future.
Dont disrespect top gear like that 😂
What killed it for me was the pay wall. They wanted to make it worth their time, understandably, and unfortunately the market wasn't able to support it. Shame because I enjoyed the vibe and especially the shout out to Independent section.
For what it’s worth, you guys did a great job! I loved the podcast but absolutely respect what you said about the girls. As a fellow “girl dad” I get it! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
3 reasons. 1. None of them had a personality. 2. They felt above their viewers. 3. No one cared that they had a podcast.
it just wasn't very good.
I still listen to the old eps.
it wasn't a show it was a long commercial
It’s was pure entertainment from the chemistry between the actors and their bias towards certain brands. It was slightly frustrating in that the subject matter kept repeating itself and there was a real missed opportunity to dive into the archives and educate the masses about past horological great (I’m a massive 70’s Omega fanboy). Personally I thought that many of the comments to the show were unkind and become too personal which perhaps may have affected the actors (George especially)? It’s a great miss and I do hope the guys get back together for the occasional show.
Please bring the AET back 🙏 Maybe fewer episodes or even 2-3 a year, but we need it. I was completely in love with your show with all good and bad things in it.
Personally, I loved AET. Looked forward to every episode. IMO, GB’s insecurities undid it. GB’s money allows him to avoid all but the most pleasant ‘work’, to bankroll products no one asks for or wants, and to purchase sycophantic accolades. Unfortunately, it cannot buy the talent to become the artist GB clearly wishes he was. I think AB and AM eventually tired of pretending GB’s ‘artistic viewpoint’ was a valuable contribution. GB then got offended b/c his artistic merit wasn’t being given its due deference, and he withdrew his financial support.
It was shite, and so was the synergy, but most importantly, I would rather watch paint dry, than Adrian or That Bamford guy.
I agree. I'd never heard of the Bamford guy. I thought he was a weirdo tbh and the other 2 just clashed.
@derekbrettell8121 yep agreed. They tried too hard.
Come on guys, AET was only about Bamford's massive ego and two other guys desperately trying to sound cool.
In all honesty I thought the dynamic was a little too 'bro-sy' for me. Just never felt that it was inviting or that I ever belonged. Then there was a huge part that was dedicated to self-promotion or praising one of the other guys' business, be it straps, watches or media and it was done in a very obvious, over-the-top manner. A bit of a circle jerk. Don't get me wrong, I like the guys, the podcast just wasn't for me.
The show was cringe anyway, just George promoting ugly collab watches.
It was never good. It felt forced. It tried so hard to have the Top Gear vibe. But it lacked the Chemistry and humour.
I hope it comes back. It was great
Family first. But I still miss About Effing Time☹️
Bamford - given his super caked-up background - was actually ok but he did need to invest in a Roget’s Thesaurus and bone up before each show. Which he didn’t. Bit lazy. The A & A were fine but, although there were overtones of the original Top Gear format, they didn’t gel. No matter. Onwards and upwards. I’ll keep watching Adrian. Andrew needs to re-set. And none of us need to worry Mr Bamford, do we: he’ll survive, I suspect 😉
It's pretty obvious in the last About Effing Time video that Bamford has broken everything up. Listen to the way they say their goodbyes.
I have had it confirmed by a source very close to the guys, without even asking directly about it, that it was George. He just didn't have time for EFT. I quote "George is a big shot". Andrew and Adrian should move on and do their own podcast/show. Andrew is doing it right now with the "Time+Tide Tribe" channel.
I'm pretty sure it was one of the motivators for Andrew to move to the UK and he genuinely loved their community.
I really enjoyed the show and would have loved for it to grow and become a watch lovers favorite.
“Celebrity divorce” 😂
U gotta hate that royalty free music…!!!
Obvious that Bamford was in control .It was like a Bamford show with the two guys speaking when he let them.Would have been much more enjoyable without him in it.
Whatever the motive, Andrew was pulling that wagon anyway. George had no real insight to add and captain boring was annoyingly predictable. It’s hard to create relevant and interesting content in this cluttered media. I don’t watch most of the channels I used to.
To be honest, I felt most represented by Adrian. Just the "average" collector and watch lover. I enjoyed his based view to oppose the other two.
@MarketingGuy I agree completely
Omg “celebrity divorce”.. Jesus..
Didn't care much for the show. Bamford is too much....
He is…
For a family that just makes big diggers they are beyond up themselves - if you think George is bad look at the parents. Lord and Lady Muck ...
Why is he doing this in the street? And it's hardly the Rolling Stones breaking up 😂 Who is this anyway? 😅
This is a clip from a longer 30ish minute chat I had with Andrew. He is standing outside the new Time&Tide boutique (the building in the back) and was talking about that as well.
You can check out the whole video posted on the channel :)
It failed for one reason, the weakest link. Barkboy, who not only brought nothing to the table each show in terms of preparation, has a super stale, unexcited opinion, and he bored us all, almost to death. I actually died but I was resuscitated, and thankfully Barkboy was no longer speaking about Rolex. It was the only way I made it.
I loved the show, for me it was like the top gear of watches show. please bring it back.
Is Daniel Katz here?
I’ll never understand how people watch a few pretentious dudes blab about watches.
Get over it and ask a serious question. Andrew deserves better.
Great that it‘s over, I don‘t care why.
It’s no loss in my view - they were all really irritating and egotistical together whereas individually with the exception of George, who can still be irritating on his own, they were great. Sorry but it had to be said.
I don’t think the three of you worked well together, I unfortunately struggled to watch it due to everyone talking over each other.
If dear old Bamford with all his connections couldn't make it work, then it really must have been a dud!
But it was sooooooooo fuckin good!!!!!
Probably the best trio since Clarkson, May, and Hammond.
@@CanadianWatchCommunitythat’s heresy.
It ended because they catered to hype watch flippers and not true enthousiast. The flippers left after the crypto crash
it wasn' t exactly Fratella was it
Maybe because the watch market is dying ?? Occam’s razor …….😂
They Hodinkee'd. If they continued, it would only be a matter of time before they started Balenciaga fashion tie-ins
I found that the three of them had no chemistry or connection. I like Andrew a lot. Adrian less so these days. George annoys the hell out of me
That show didn’t work. Too silly and George was useless
“Celebrity divorce”…. Except you’re not famous.
WHUT
Effing time was dumb, relax I'm not trying to offend anybody.
Too many people yapping, I couldn’t listen to it and I love and own a nice collection of high end pieces since 1989.
It failed cuz Andrew was only normal one, others two were just boring watch snobs who just know and buy one brand and that’s all while Andrew is horological junkie.
Was a crap show.
Hey now. You’re allowed to feel the way you feel but with all due respect, these are three extremely well known enthusiasts and experts in the Watch community and I am thankful that they took the time to make that podcast for us watch nerds. The amount of time, planning, dedication that it takes is unreal.
It’s like watching the Olympics from your couch and saying somebody sucks if they miss landing a triple backflip on a balance beam.
What's your definition of a good show then?
Hopefully EFT will return again. Another live Christmas Show maybe! Cheers
No great loss. These fellows sat around and drank and Bull shitted about watches and made an attempt to cash in on high priced merchandise. No thanks
@CanadianWatchCommunity I appreciate many people enjoyed it but I'll think you'll find many who didn't enjoy it either. For me, I don't think the 3 of had any chemistry. It was awkward and uncomfortable to watch. They definitely aren't funny IMO (I don't suspect much of the watch media is) and I didn't find the content particularly interesting. I do watch time and tide and Adrian's channels separately though.
It took nearly a hour to cover 15 minutes quality content. It was a babble-thon.
Maybe it’s because the worst type of watch guys are those guys. They don’t use their watches. It’s just a collection. You really only need 1 watch and to use it. These dudes are the guys that buy fucking dive watches and never turn that bezel once. No thanks. End that pod.
What a stupid thing to say. Nobody really uses their submariner to dive with, and I doubt you’re any different.
There are too many watches to appreciate. For many, watches are art/toys as much as they are tools
No diver uses a divewatch to dive.
@@Tartan false. I have a group of buds I dive with. All use a DW. From a Seiko to a Brietling
