    That was great advice and I think a greater number of people will succeed if the time to germinate is shorter as per your method as opposed to months. I only tried growing Musa from seed once and failed, that was following packet recommendations of simply immersing the seed in water for 24 hours having chipped the seed initially. I have just bought 'Pygmy Banana' seeds - the seeds are around an inch in diameter, so I will try your method this time. I have very young Musa Acuminata plants growing, they have gone from 1 inch plugs to 10 inch plants in less than a month. I did try to order Rajapuri, but year later they are not in stock. Thanks for great instructions!

      Well one month in and Ive had nothing at all yet, I think the main problem is they are in bags like you said inside a heated propagator at 25 degrees but water from the humid air in the propogator seems to condensate on the bags and is dropping the temperature inside by quite a large amount. I may have to remove them from the bags

    Hi Kris can i put the ensete glaucum seeds in the airing cupboard? silly question but says needs bright light for the seeds? but othere ensetes do well in there to get them germinated. I normally do the same for the Musa too just taking them out at night to give them the difference in temps. but after the other attempt at the boiling water method worked I've done the same again with these too ;-)

    • @YorkshireKRIS

      Warm rather than from the fridge so that when you put it on a heat mat etc it's already at temperature. Warm is 20 to 30⁰c

    Great result! Can the boiling water trick be used for smaller banana seeds like Balbisiana too? Should they be in the water shorter because they are smaller?

    • @YorkshireKRIS
      @YorkshireKRIS  3 года назад

      It works well on those with really hard seed cases like Cannas, Sweet peas, Ensetes etc. Musa seeds can be treated this way but less necessary. And yes be careful not to boil the seeds!

    well I did it I boiled the seeds!! I couldn't take waiting any longer that 20 seconds it was like torture lmao. But now soaking in orange juice on a heat mat for a couple of days before cinnamon powder then go in the baggie and in the airing cupboard wish me luck. I've not tried growing banana for a couple of years but hopefully I will get one or two.....I say hope lol

    • @YorkshireKRIS

      It's only been a month. Very fresh seed would likely have germinated by now. Older seed can usually take a few months.

    So I soaked my ensete seeds in water for 3 days and then planted then into compost in a heated propagated 3 weeks ago, but now I’ve seen this video do you think it would be ok to dig them up and follow this procedure, there’s no sign of life from them yet and I’m worried they may rot, I also didn’t sterilise anything.
