    Fantastic method! Less than a week after the boiling water treatment, i have about 30 seedlings. most interesting is that the seeds were over 10 years old!! Thank you.

    Tried your method and it works wonderfully. I reviewed others where they talk about filing the seeds and knew I wouldn’t do it. I searched for other methods and found yours and thought “ that I can do”. I have 30 seeds coming up in plastic cups. Hoping to gifts friends with some as I payed $8 USD a piece for mine.

    Hi Kris would have like u to have shown how the seeds were after u had covered them in the warm water.
    Cannes are my favourite plant. I grow them in tubs & overwinter them just with wood mulch on the top. I do the same with my ginger lillies but these are now planted in the garden. They have really taken off & doing so we. Thanks for the videos watching them closely

    • @jerrywhite3095

      This is my first year with Cannes and I have received so many compliments that I feel obligated to grow them again. I am in NJ and it does get cold at times here but not really a deep freeze all winter; some winters are mild. Since my Cannes are in the ground, do you think I can cut them just above the ground and lay a heavy pile of mulch over them to protect them. They are planted along the side of the house and won’t get much wind. As a backup, I do have seeds stored up. What do you think?

    • @cynthiaann4465
      @cynthiaann4465 2 года назад

      I would dig them up and store them over the winter. There are lots of videos on RUclips that show how to do that. Good luck.

    Hi Kris, this worked treat for me. 75% rate so far. Planting..dies the sprout go straight down or to the side? Thks. I'm going to use a regular potting soil with some perlite, on a heat mat. Should be ok? Thks

      I have not tried the boiling water method and I wondered the same. What direction do seeds get planted. I have 1 growing very well and didn't really pay attention to direction either. I use a heat Mat too. Keep covered until the leaf hits the plastic dome then take it off.

    • @1ilgrillo
      @1ilgrillo 3 года назад

      @@chadvollrath1760 I think I planted my seedlings to the side. All came up. Even a seedling I broke off accidentally pushed out a new leaf. Aggressive growers. I was up to my neck in Canna. Great value.

    I've a set of seeds sitting on a window sill in the house and a second set in the garage under light (it's warmer in garage). It's been a week and there's no sign of germination. The outermost layer of the seed is starting to fall apart but that's it. Any suggestions what's going wrong? Am I just impatient? All were scarified and it's July in TX.

    Once germinated, do cannas need to be on a heat mat or will they grow fine in a sunny conservatory in spring?

    • @YorkshireKRIS

      Yes fine off the heat mat when germinated if the area is warm and stays above 12c ideally

      As far as I'm aware the seeds don't carry the virus so any source should be fine.
