    Thank you so much! Your video, though longish, was worth every minute .. clear visuals, simple explanation, soothing voice and spoken clear and slow enough. Really appreciate your sharing, and will check out more of your videos. I'm here in Bangalore, India, by the way! No idea what zone! Tropical mostly pleasant weather here, and we're in our monsoon season at the moment. Looking forward to trying out my canna seeds now, what fun! Thanks again, Sue!

      You had 500 cannas?? Wow that’s amazing! The amount of planting and maintenance you must have needed to do for those 😳 I’m truly impressed. Did you get anything truly unique to germinate? If not, I hope your next batch will give you something spectacular 🤞 good luck!

      @@Garden-Oasis love the auto irrigation system with 1/4" tubing and micro sprinklers I would give them food very 2 months and trim as needed oh and talk to them. Some of the colors were lighter than the parent plants but the flowers were the same size. All of the plants were in pots so that they could be moved as needed for sun exposure. I enjoy growing them many different species of flowers, wide petals, narrow ones, large flowers, small ones, tight clusters and single ones sorry for the run on Happy Growing everyone

      @@caroleverest2049 Carol, join us in our germination adventures! You could purchase canna seeds for very cheap on eBay. It might be too late this season to start some and get them to flower but what have you got to lose? You would at the very least get the practice of germinating them under your belt for the coming growing season.
      You could even collect seeds for free from cannas in parks if you know of any around you. 😊 good luck 🍀👍

    Greetings Sue, Can you please explain / cover in another video starting the seeds in soil?, Pottiing soil? Planting depth? Watering? Thank you

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  2 месяца назад +1

      The process would be the same as far as the scratching of the outer coating. And if you just want to plant them without soaking first, you’d just jump to the section of this video where I plants them in pots after they had sprouted. 1/2 an inch deep, cover them, keep them watered and you’re all set.
      If you’re planting straight into the garden, you’d do the same thing. Scratch, 1/2 inch deep, keep watered. You’ll get some to germinate, though I wouldn’t recommend it because they really do need a lot of water at first to get going. You’d have to water that spot constantly to keep the soil moist enough.

      I am on my 2nd week of soaking canna seeds. 2 out of 20 so far have sprouted. I am starting to see some white discoloration with the remainder. I still prefer this method over filing any day.

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  3 месяца назад

      @@cynthiaborden4209 that’s a bit low on the germination rate. Did you make sure to scratch them till you saw some white under the shell? I wonder why you only got two. 🤔
      I’d keep soaking just to see what happens and switch to changing the water every day. Just so they don’t rot on you while you wait for the rest to sprout.

    One question I have, when you are planting the seeds that have the white embryo exposed, are you planting the white tip UP or white tip DOWN in the soil? Thanks so much.

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  День назад

      @@kmanmott6162 it doesn’t matter what direction it points. It could be facing straight down and it will still grow upwards, or vice versa. In nature, when they fall to the ground, no one turns them and faces them in a certain direction. They’ve evolved over millions of years to be able to find up for their leaves and down for their roots. Just drop it in the hole and cover with soil. It will take care of the rest on its own 😊👍 don’t worry about it, you got this 👍

    So white seeds will not germinate? I am currently trying to germinate white canna seeds. This is a wonderful presentation. I am in zone 10-11❤

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  3 месяца назад

      Thank you! 😊…No, I’ve never seen white mature canna seeds. They are white in the green pods, when the pods first form. Then the seeds start to mature, along with the pods. The pods go from green to brown as the seeds mature to black inside them… though it’s possible I don’t know everything and there actually are white mature seeds somehow, but I’ve never seen them. Where did you get the white seeds?

    • @sandrabriggs8131
      @sandrabriggs8131 3 месяца назад

      @Garden-Oasis from a Lilly that had just dropped its bloom. I think if I had waited the seed pod would have turned brown/black. I've got it 2 sitting in water. Well see. Thank you for responding. A second question, do yu know where I can get presidential canna lilies? They are hard to find

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  3 месяца назад

      @@sandrabriggs8131 yes if you’d have waited about 2-3 weeks, they’d have matured. You’ll get more chances to collect them, I’m sure 😊.
      A quick google search showed me 3 sellers that were the first results. Hollandbulbfarms.com, Eden brothers, and Dutchbulbs.com all have them in stock. Holland bulbs is actually having a sale on them as we speak. 😊 good luck 👍

    Where do I find the seeds

    • @Garden-Oasis
      @Garden-Oasis  12 дней назад +1

      You can buy them on eBay for very cheap. People collect them from their plants and sell them. You can also buy them from online plant stores that sell seeds. I think I’ve even seen them being sold in amazon. I’d just google “canna lily seeds” and go with the best option.
      You’ll only have to buy them once. Then you can collect your own seeds and store them for the next year 👍
